  1. Thanks. Hadn't thought to look at their parts diagrams.
  2. I change my oil and rotate my tires and I hadn't notice this until now. See the attached picture taken from the passenger side front wheel well. The silver gear with the sensor pointed at it. Is that supposed to be covered or exposed like that? I've had the car into the dealer for recall/service bulletins and was wondering if they left something off by accident or if that is normal.
  3. Has any one gone in for the the headline had impact fix? What is entailed? Before/After pics. Do they staple pillows to the ceiling? I kid... But they are saying a day and half to fix, but they also allot a software update for the same amount of time. Inquiring minds want to know considering the scratches the applied to my dash installing the inspection decal to the interior of the front window.
  4. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2013/08/15/c-max-fuel-economy.html FORD UPGRADES 2014 C-MAX HYBRID FOR BETTER FUEL ECONOMY, CHANGES 2013 LABEL TO IMPROVE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION 2014 Ford C-MAX Hybrid on sale later this year is upgraded with new transmission gearing and enhanced aerodynamics to further improve fuel efficiency performanceFord voluntarily changing its approach to C-MAX Hybrid fuel economy labeling going forward to better match performance and improve customer satisfactionLabel changes will result in a lower 2013 C-MAX Hybrid miles-per-gallon label – though still class-leading and a better combined label than the Toyota Prius v; current C-MAX Hybrid owners will receive a goodwill payment for the differenceCustomer demand for C-MAX Hybrid remains very strong, with two-thirds of buyers from imports; C-MAX Hybrid helps drive Ford to best quarterly hybrid U.S. sales everUnderscoring its commitment to fuel economy leadership, Ford Motor Company today said it is upgrading the 2014 Ford C-MAX Hybrid, which will go on sale in December. The company also is changing the way it tests and labels the 2013 C-MAX Hybrid for fuel economy to better match performance and improve customer satisfaction. The upgrades build on powertrain software updates Ford announced last month for the 2013 C-MAX Hybrid. The 2014 C-MAX also will benefit from several hardware changes, including: Gearing changes that result in a more efficient transmission drive ratioNew hood seal, front and rear tire deflectors, A-pillar moldings and the addition of rear lift gate deflectors to improve vehicle aerodynamicsNew engine oil with reduced frictionThe enhancements to the 2014 C-MAX Hybrid are expected to improve customers’ on-road fuel economy, especially at highway speeds. “Ford is absolutely committed to being a leader in the hybrid market and to top fuel efficiency across our lineup,” said Raj Nair, group vice president, global product development. “We are taking actions with our popular C-MAX Hybrid so that customers are even more satisfied with the vehicle’s on-road fuel efficiency performance.” The variability of on-road fuel economy is greater for hybrids than for conventional vehicles. Relatively small differences in driver behavior and driving conditions can have a significant effect on the degree to which a hybrid’s gasoline engine is used for propulsion, which affects fuel efficiency. Changes to C-MAX Hybrid fuel economy labeling process In addition to improving the vehicle itself, Ford is changing the way it generates the miles-per-gallon label for C-MAX Hybrid going forward. Previously – and consistent with EPA’s General Label rules – testing of the Fusion Hybrid was used to generate fuel economy labels for a family of vehicles, including both Fusion Hybrid and C-MAX Hybrid. The result was the same fuel economy label values for both vehicles. While the company could continue to use EPA’s General Label for C-MAX Hybrid, Ford voluntarily has decided to test and label C-MAX Hybrid separately going forward. The result will be a lower miles-per-gallon label for the 2013 C-MAX Hybrid. Testing to generate a label for the 2014 C-MAX Hybrid is not yet complete. The revised 2013 Ford C-MAX Hybrid label will carry a class-leading EPA combined fuel economy value of 43 mpg – topping the combined label value of 42 mpg for the Toyota Prius v. Because this voluntary step results in miles-per-gallon values different from the original C-MAX Hybrid label, Ford also is making a goodwill payment to current C-MAX Hybrid owners for the estimated average fuel cost of the difference between the two labels. Customers who purchased their vehicle will receive a check from Ford for $550. Customers who leased their vehicle will receive a check for $325. Existing customers will be notified by mail, and Ford is working with dealers to re-label vehicles on dealer lots. Customers with questions can contact the Ford Customer Relationship Center athttp://corporate.ford.com/owner-services/customer-support/contact-ford, or +1-800-392-3673. Strong C-MAX customer reaction Customer response to Ford C-MAX is strong. In fact, C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid are driving record U.S. electrified vehicle sales. Ford sold 53,014 electrified vehicles through July – 392 percent higher than a year ago. Two-thirds of buyers are coming from imports. In addition, the latest J.D. Power APEAL study shows C-MAX Hybrid is scoring high with customers. Engine responsiveness, smoothness, passing power/acceleration, interior quietness and visibility all rank significantly higher than the segment average. Customers also report C-MAX is “more luxurious” and “more innovative,” as well as more environmentally friendly. Ford’s electrified vehicle market share through the first seven months of this year is 15.4 percent -- a 12-point increase compared with the same period last year.
  5. Yeah, that's why I asked. I swear this thing once closed on itself. Who knows.
  6. I was at the local library for 6 hours today... When the librarian stopped by and asked if I owned a hatchback and my heart sunk. No damage. I have to move where I put my key fob as my hatch had remotely opened and had remained open for quite some time. And I'm in the South were... I suppose where the Broken Window Theory isn't quite acted upon. But I have a question, I thought the hatch would remotely close if open for an extended period of time -- Am I mistaken? I thought it had don this before. Is there a setting?
  7. Has anyone created a thread to track the software update noted in "Ford Communication" posted yesterday to the gallery. Apparently, Ford doesn't push these to the cars and we'd have to head to the dealer for service to acquire them. Hmm. I hope Ford doesn't adopt Microsoft's patching model. Patch frequently. Patch often. God, I hope not.
  8. Well, the Focus' Sync looked like this http://carrosmx.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Ford-Focus-2012-Sync.jpg The fact that the "Sync Powered by Microsoft" logo is glued right behind the automatic shifter can be taken as an omen. I mean where do you start? It is a sea of buttons, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to simply enter in a channel's frequency. Apparently, this is more or less the same system you get standard with the C-MAX SE. The 2013 Focus low-end system has somewhat improved though in terms of simplifying the button layout. The C-MAX SEL Sony Audio Sync system isn't perfect, but it is heck a lot better. And has anyone else noticed... The C-MAX has returned to the front door of Ford?
  9. Well, I dropped the car at the dealers last Wednesday and picked it up late Monday. I did this after emailing my dealer mentioning the letter he sent me following the sale, and he replied they'd take care of it. They gave me a Focus loaner and sent it out to a nearby paint shop and it was taken care of, and they did an admirable job, and thankfully it didn't get worse. The 2012 Focus sedan got about 34.6 mpg, up from the 33.3 mpg it had when I started driving it. I can say this the Sync system I have in my C-MAX is a world of difference from where it was in that car. The car was peppy, and spent most of my first day back with my C-MAX unlearning a few bad habits, and re-growing all the leaves lost by the dealer driving my car -- Seriously, it was plucked clean of leaves when I picked it up. :-) It is hard not to be jaded, but I bought from a small dealership in "one company town" city. Let's put it this way, the city has two dealerships: one Ford, and the other Chevy. So, I think I'll be sending them a "thank you" letter via USPS. I've been having problems with myfordmobile.com accepting my VIN. So, I called their support number, and spoke to person in Dearborn Michigan and not someone in some faraway land. Ford, if you're reading this please take to heart consumers appreciate this. Kinda goes hand in hand with buying American. The support person said they've had this problem with a number of the new C-Max 's not being in their systems yet. I expect it will be take care of in a couple of days.
  10. The proximity sensor? I thought that, but it looks nude -- unpainted. Seriously, like it was never painted. I figure they pre-paint a bunch of em, and pop em in at the factory. Mind you, the mount is painted, as is the bumper. Like Mr. Green Jeans called out above in his post, the White Platinum color at first glance looks well white -- So, why bother. (Well. Other times it pops.) So, it slipped past em at the factory. Once, you notice it though it sorta draws your eyes to it like a dead pixel. Maybe, I'm a perfectionist, but when you work the hours I do to pay for something like car. You simply want it right. That and I bought a chunk of Ford stock on the release of the C-MAX, and want the company to honestly do good. I'm pulling for American manufacturing considering the tech like regen breaking was invented here back in '74 with Victor Wouk's conversion, and not by Toyota. http://www.hybridcars.com/the-great-hybrid-car-cover-up-of-74/ So, as a PSA look for this if you are thinking of buy either White colors.
  11. You have one inch and 100lbs on me. What can I say, I liked the color, and bought my last car 14 years ago also white... So, I was looking for albeit small change, but I agree considering how difficult a color it is to touch up I somewhat regret it. Let me explain why I referred to the moon roof as dorkey. It is a pricey bit of kit for something that only really the rear passengers could fully enjoy. But I agree paying extra for special paint felt wasteful. The nearly 3 mind boggling grand retractable roof on the Lincoln MKZ even as sexy as it is "dorkey" price-wise.
  12. They are arranging for the issues to be resolved by one of the "local body shops rather than use the on-site guys that comes by." I just hope this doesn't get worse... Otherwise, I love this car coming from my Subaru Outback of 14 years. My Subaru feels absolutely analog in comparison. And 44.6MPG into work today largely highway... call me happy. Sync this morning rebooted while teathered via bluetooth to my fully charged Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I wonder if it has problems with connecting simultaneously to both my iTouch via USB and the phone. Honestly, if it wasn't for the reboots I'd say Sync works perfectly fine. I'm an engineer so its interesting versus annoying at this point. Although, the message Sync displays about what it is doing when coming back up from a crash is actually quite funny. I wish I could remember the phrasing, but the it very specific as if to say this is normal and for your benefit...
  13. So, I ordered a White Platinum SEL fully loaded minus the dorkey moon roof. Waited 3+ months, and it came with touch up paint for factory paint chips on the right rear passenger piller from when they set the rear window I guess, and today one of the passenger proximity sensors caught my eye -- It is white, while all the others match the White Platinum paint. It doesn't even look painted. These are things I can see. What else can't I see that Ford did a quality job one on? Does any one know if these sensors come pre-painted? And if I can get one and swap it or what? Or wait, does Ford fix their mistakes? Otherwise, I've hit 45.6 MPG with it in 43 degree wheather travelling largely highway miles. My Samsung Nexus when floating just above a dead battery can take out Sync and send it into a reboot fairly handedly too. IT has happened three times now.
  14. Note to self: Costco ontop of having well paid employees instead of Walmart slave labor, a CEO that makes a reasonable salary in comparison to others ($350,000 and bonus of $190,400 in fiscal 2010. Including stock awards and other pay, he received $3.5 million.), and the $1.50 Costco Hot Dog priced the same as the day the chain opened ALSO has a car buying plan.
  15. I supposedly bought at $500 over invoice. But my dealer tucked in a $468 "ADV ASSESsMENT" fee into my order. :rant2: Explained here: http://socialposer.com/help-please-share-your-input-on-auto-dealer-advertising-assessments/ That and a $49.84 fuel charge to "fill" the tank at the factory not included in the $795.00 destination and delivery fee. How many of you have seen the "ADV ASSESSMENT" fee?
  16. Another comment: I have to wonder what the cost of slight front end accident -- I hope this never happens to you. -- will cost with either of these cars, but mostly the Fusion... there is so little front-end past the end of the hood.
  17. Exactly the color I would of selected... I looked long an hard at both these and the Lincoln with the same Hybrid power train found in Fusion and C-Max... What one won out was cargo area of the C-Max, and head room. Otherwise... I agree, I hope Ford sells a buttload of these and drives up the stock price, which is under performing actual value. Wait. So, by the pics am I to take it you bought both the C-Max and the Fusion. If so, awesome! If we had more of these my stock might push higher. :)
  18. Okay, maybe I am thick, but what are you doing. Accelerate quickly, but within legal limits from stop? Seriously? And this is the start of efficiency? Then let up? Like lift your foot completely of the gas pedal, and wait for the EV mode to be displayed on the LCD? But them carefully re-apply the pedal, but so as not to re-engage the gas engine. I take it "EV" means run on battery? have you equipped your car with barf bags? I kid, but we'd all at one time or another ridden with someone who drives sorta like how you described, but that isn't what you're saying, right? Or it actually is that bad, but being you have no occupants, you're not making anyone sick in the car.
  19. Stop and mull over "Have you checked our version of Sync to make sure its the latest?" We have hit the moment in time where we are software updating our cars off of thumb drives. Srsly. How disconnected are the car's individual computer systems? I hope these updates are digitally signed. Are we far off from a black hat computer virus being secreted onto one of these updates, installed blindly in the hopes of improving our iPod playback, and one day all taken on a joy ride we won't soon forget? Muh ha ha ha. ;)
  20. Tell em you bought a Ford. I suppose, the next question you'll be asked is one of two, or three: a) "Are you serious?" b) "You bought a truck?" c) "What kind?" So, then tell em a "Hybrid." That's illicit a response like "I didn't know they made one." You can then say, "They make several." I can think of 2 offhand before including Lincoln all using the C-Max power train. You can take from there...
  21. Thanks for posting. To me it looks like the installer cut a corner and instead of opening the mirror housing and threading the antenna wiring through the mirror shaft he cut a corner and double-sided sticky taped it to the bottom of the mirror, or maybe it goes inside that long plastic piece behind the mirror. In some states what he did might be illegal as cops don't like seeing anything hanging from your review mirror obstructing one's view. I went to fordparts.com and ask them if they had the install instructions online, but they were no help. :(
  22. So, aren't these things dealer installed on the Hybrid model? And if so... parts departments have seemingly weekly sales discounting parts around 15%. Anyone have and willing to share the installation instructions? Also, does it start the engine and air conditioning / heater with settings the car was shutoff in? Does it cycle between motor and engine, or is everything running off the battery? I guess it is the geek in me that wants more than what they are providing information-wise.
  23. That auto show on PBS that runs Saturday afternoon had their review and my 2 year and 8 month old blurted out "That's a silly car." Ouch must be the grill.
  24. I stopped by the area's biggest Ford dealer and they had no clue of the jack points. It isn't their dealer FAQ database either. Quite hilarious. Thanks for the pics. Fascinating how sloppy the bottom is and how easy the underbody shielding either abrades or is that foam adhesive over spray? Looking over fit and finish of one of the cars they had on the lot had me questioning buying one. Lots of little things. Nothing big mind you. Such as the u-bolts the back hatch latches to were not equidistantly protruding from the body. Sloppy body mastic painted over in number places. Foam sheet material protruding from various openings in the door, e.g. from around the child locks on the rear doors. Otherwise, it is nice car. Very, very quite. The Ford Fusion though threw me. The Hybrid version has the same hybrid engine crammed under of the C-MAX's hood. You can see more of what is tucked up under that expansive C-MAX dash. And the dash was cleaner specifically the center section. The dealer had the same problems others have noted of finding the car dead in the morning needing a jump. Funny thing is a Fusion Hybrid fully loaded is cheaper than a a C-MAX. You just don't get as expansive storage space, but the Fusion's trunk is cavernous and the rear seats have same split and fold down. The Fusion's styling is nice. And quite surprising. I've read Ford will also sprinkle the same Hybrid engine into their Lincoln MKS-something or other.
  25. Think you cell phone snap a pic of?
