Have a 2013 c-max , drove it last winter with no issues, this year we have had about the same weather, but noticed this morning that the lower shutters were opening and closing with a a lot of noise, and upper shutters were covered in ice and would not open at all. I pulled into my garage and sprayed hot water on the shutters to remove the ice. That seemed to cure the problem...will monitor. Any one else had this issue? thanks..
  2. The c-max has more than adequate stopping ability. However when brakes are damp [after a rain, or on colder weather] they are noisy and very grabby for the first few stops. My guess it is the pad material Ford is using. I am also noticing some deeper groves in the rotor faces...this is a concern I will bring to the service managers attention. My guess is that different pads may be in development and rotors probably will need to be replaced with the newly designed pads. On a positive note at 5500 miles I just returned from a trip to Cincinnati, Oh and got 54.5 mpg...

  4. How are the grille covers attached? assume license plate bolts? Does the lastest Ford ECM update keep the grille shutters closed more? Thanks, Bob 36-39 mpg @ 1600 miles,outside temps 20 degrees and lower....windy
  5. Just got Maxx in November and have driven it in light/moderate snow/ice. In my opinion it is a better balanced fwd vehicle as powertrain in front is balanced by battery weight in rear, right over the rear wheels where it should be. No problems with handling or startup on slippery surfaces, but like any other vehicle you can "overdrive it". I'm thinking that reducing tire pressure to 35 from 38 during winter months might help a bit with traction, giving up a very small amount of mpg. I will try it and report back. It was 9 degrees here this morning and car performed very well, plenty of heat/defrost .
  6. Just bought a 2013 c-max...it has been re programmed for better mpg etc. before I purchased.. so far it is performing very well. I assume Ford's spec for the 2014 c-max concerning oil will be 0W-20 semi- or full synthetic.....could result in a 2% improvement. As a tech. I think ICE engines should be "broken-in" with conventional/semi synthetic oil, then changed over to full synthetic. I always changed oil/filter on new engines between 1200-1500 miles....rings are seated by then. Then switch to full synthetic if you want.
