Muffler Bad Or Sad?
Tellio22@gmail.com replied to SnowStorm's topic in Brakes, Chassis, Park Assist & Suspension
I had just found the trail if exhaust stain on th passenger side lower , side of the muffler. Then noticed the stain starts at a little hole just above the seam in the lower side. Looks like someone drilled a small hole. Hum weep hole... I can see the trace stains of exhaust along the side of the muffler 39000 mile stain I would have thought it was a defect the way it looks like it's leaking gas but guess it's very tiny so as long as I don't see more traces I wouldn't worry. I'd like to see the new 2018 cmax on the lot to see if it has this weeping whole? Or look at a ford replacement muffler to see if this practice is common. 1 wonder if it causes gas to get into the cabin? 2 wonder how many dealerships went a head and replaced it? Next time I go to the dealership I'll see what they say after they look at it. -

Rusty support arm
Tellio22@gmail.com replied to Skitime's topic in Brakes, Chassis, Park Assist & Suspension
I was already about to take my 2013 in and have the service manager. I understand that this is cast Iron however as far as I can tell the rust is so thick I am naturally very concerned. There are other parts that require a good fit with this part and I don’t think that having this much rust already built up will make assembly consistent and also down the road I would be very concerned If I need to replace the bearings (as I have had to do on similar ford lines) a problem. They are pressed in on other Ford vehicles of similar design. I would bet the amount of rust I see here would make servicing a big problem. I would bet also that if you don’t think it’s a problem with this much rust I would be very suspicious and bet money that you would not take delivery with this on your new vehicle! I am disappointed that Proud Ford Workers here in the US would even think about using a part this rusted. I know I would never do that. I also found aluminum corrosion all over the bottom part of the motor under the cover that is removed for changing the oil. That looked like salt water spray and was cleanable but still noticeable months later even though it’s not a big deal you would think they would pay better attention to that much contamination. -
I think there might be an explanation but it would be difficult to determine . I know from working at a gas station when I was a kid that the explanation and contraction rates of gasoline are crazy. I don.t know how all that works when you are pumping full up north in the real Michigan weather but I would suspect that there may be a difference from what you are figuring and what the car automatically figures that is crazy more when the weather is extreme. I"d say go to the dealer as those have suggested however don't be surprised if no solution is determined. Then wait until the weather stabilizes and see if the difference does not fall within a more acceptable margin. We lost and gained hundreds of galleons when the construction caused the ground temperature to change it was crazy. Also recently I drove to NC from FL and back and the difference on my CMax increased but not as much as you are experiencing however the lowest temp was about 18 F. I only use the gage as an estimate, my log tells me the real truth I wonder how the computer measures fuel amounts to know how much fuel the car is using. It must be interesting.

Blah blah blah... Anyone that still reads CR after the Cell phone shopping issue might need to be ver careful to give credit to CR when it is clear they stopped being what they once used to be. The report on cell phones did not include any reference to the processors that make or break how a phone functions. All I know is I have driven many Prius and Cmax before I bought a car last year. Pound for pound for me I like the cmax by far, but it depends how you drive it. CR is a whole other forum as they spiral down the hill of greatness. They seem to be focusing more and more on collections monies through donations rather than letting their work stand for itself and use their impression from their reports to speak for themselves. I for one have not given them much credibility these last few years. As far as ford and the EPA I thought about the obvious as soon as I drove two blocks and noticed the difference perhaps a little more off than my Nissan but for me not being a rocket scientist I impressed myself somehow figuring out that the sticker on the window was going to be wrong before I drove the car. If we are paying taxes that pay the EPA then we should focus on writing about their shortcomings they are the ones that should be right in my opinion. I can choose never to buy CR certainly never donate but to be taxed for such junk is a bummer!

Dealer-Installed SYNC Update??
Tellio22@gmail.com replied to MI C-max's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Just in case anyone looks at this thread. If an update does not take and this is posable it is posable that the dealer may have in their computers that your car is good but when you get the notice on sync my ride you may be out of date. There are some updates that will not take unless they are done in order. You can call or email the synce guys and ask them what version number should. Show when you go to settings then help. It's a different number than the version they give us on line. They will walk you through it if you ask. Theses updates are very important. Some may be more important for those that have nav and others may even change the PCM functionality. You must not ignore notices if you get a notice something is preventing you from enjoying your car as much as you could be. Good luck -

Oil has a longer use period however I did not like the smell or look of fords oil after just 600 miles. I had to drop the cover very careful not to over tighten while replacing the shield and I discovered that the oil looked dark and broken down as if it where over a year of hard driving. If you look at your dip stick and don't like what you see and smell then change it with an up grade to something better. 10, 000 miles is too long in my opinion but the engineers are scratching their heads with that one. I'd rather let other people experience the truth while I change every 5K. Once I see with my own two eyes then I'll let it ride to ten.

I rented a 2013 Cmax drove up to sequoia national forest all day it switched back and forth smoothly and impressively up and down the steepest mountain drive anywhere I have ever seen for a paved road. All I can say we averaged way above what CR said they got and that for did a lot right! I just ought one I was so impressed. Drive a prius and look at what the specs are... Item by item ford is ahead but ford has only just put out the cmax. Seems like no one remembers all the problems prius has been having.
