  2. Let's try this again...

**FREE** to anyone in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area: **GONE** 1 set of in the package windshield wipers, 2 cabin air filters, **ALSO GONE** 1 used set front and rear Husky Floor Liner floor mats. Floor liners were originally for a 2013 Escape, but fit the C-Max. Respond here so I get a notification and PM me with contact info so we can set up a meet.

  3. I also posted this in the Parts For Sale Thread, but thought I would try here too. I have new in the package 2-cabin air filters, FP-70 and a set of windshield wipers, WW29-DM5Z-17528-B and WW25-DM5Z-17528-C for sale. The price for the filters is $11.58 each and the wipers for what I paid, $31.84. I'm in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. I would rather not ship these items, so anyone local who's interested, leave a short reply here and PM me so we can set up a meet.

  5. Optional AWD would be nice for the folks that live in the snowy white north like me.  I don't care about the MPG drop if it means easier driving in deep white stuff.  I'll most likely be getting snow tires this winter, for the first time ever on any vehicle I've owned.

I currently love everything about the C-MAX and hope a hybrid car this size would stick around, but I won't be needed a new one for another 7 years or so.

I bought snows last winter and it made all the difference in the world. I drove in two moderate snow falls before I could get to the tire store and the improvement was night and day. As fbov wrote, you are in for a treat.

  6. There were some early issues with both models, unfortunately that now seems to be the norm with new models and advances in technology. It seems most of the issues I've read about here and on the Energi forum have not been related to the hybrid/HVB drives, but systems every car has, like batteries and electronics. My Energi was built in 2/14 and I purchased it in 3/14, I have not had a single issue other than one simple update of the PCM. I love the car, it's the right size, comfortable and fuel efficient, I especially love driving past the gas station.

  7. So I assume the cutout on the (from the driver's point of view) right side is to accomodate the USB ports?

If so, I might pick one up.

I assume that's why there's a open area. There's also a small punch out on the bottom rear that a new 9 point iPhone/iPod connector will fit through. The old style won't fit through the punch out, too wide. Here's a rough sketch of the dimensions, obviously not to scale.

  8. My previous post has been edited, but I still contend that 4WD defeats the purpose of a Hybrid and especially a PHEV. What sort of range did the Highlander have and was it even possible to run using battery power when towing a boat?

    The owner's manual states:

    TOWING A TRAILER
Never tow a trailer with your
vehicle. This powertrain is not designed to tow.

  9. Well, that sounds like a salesman.  As great as it is, the C-Max is not an SUV like the Escape.  It can haul stuff but still needs:

    1. Higher ground clearance
    2. Towing ability
    3. All wheel drive option
    4. Spare tire

I hope Ford comes up with several options for the new hybrid(s).  Perhaps a small "highest mileage" hatchback, a sedan (e.g. Fusion), something like the C-Max and a "true" SUV.  All should have the battery integrated under the floor so you get full cargo space.  There should be two or three battery size options and all should be "plug-in" (why not?).  Then there would be a real reason to use EV+!

A larger sized car would make it more appealing to more people. A couple of things on your list probably will never happen. You can't tow with a CVT and an all wheel drive version would take too much battery energy to move the car and reduce the battery range too much. Higher ground clearance may happen if the batteries are relocated and it will take a major redesign to include even a doughnut spare.

  10. There's always a lot of opinions and heated discussion when it comes to oil and oil changes, so I'll add mine.

Every 12 months, regardless of ICE mileage. I drive 75% EV and 25% ICE.

    Mobil 1 0-20

    Motorcraft FL-910S

Drive car with ICE for 10-20 miles to heat oil

Drain for 30 minutes, rocking the car a couple of times after it's drained

Running ICE for a couple of minutes to check for leaks, waiting 10-15 minutes and checking level.

First thing in the morning, pulling dipstick and re-checking level

  11. I haven't read all the posts, but my thoughts are that the current version of the C-Max Hybrid and Energi will continue to be around until the next gen of battery technology is introduced. New batteries will be smaller and have a greater capacity. This technology is here to stay and will only grow. My guess is the Fusion design will evolve and there will be newly designed HEV and PHEV's that may be closer in size to the Escape/MKC with the smaller sized, larger capacity batteries relocated under the car giving more cargo and passenger volume.

    Edit:

Just finished reading all the posts and it seems I'm saying the same as a couple of others. My Energi is the perfect size, the ONLY drawback is the battery hump. I built a platform so when needed I have a flat cargo floor, but it's a hassle to get in and out and assemble and disassemble for storage. I had a 2013 Escape and like my Energi much more because of the freedom from the gas pump. I don't haul a lot of stuff, so I like the size.

  12. I believe people who purchase a Hybrid or PHEV put more thought and research in to car buying. Buying a standard ICE vehicle is pretty straight forward and loyalty and emotion play a big part, I've driven Toyotas for years and I've had good luck, or, which car do I think looks the best. I knew there was an extra cost to buying an alternative fuel vehicle and for me it wasn't a case of how long until the price point breaks even, it was how much can I save now. I don't budget 5 years down the line (although I am for retirement in 2 1/2 years), I budget month to month, so how much will I save if I don't have to buy 30 to 50 gallons of gasoline a month.

  13. I think most folks still buy large SUV's because of the safety factor and sporty high performance high HP cars for the fun factor. If you can spend 40-60K on a full size SUV or Shelby GT, you can afford the fuel at any price. What I was saying is, for those of us in the middle, who can afford a nice vehicle (or at least get a loan for one), gas is just one more budget item and if that cost can be reduced, it gives us (me) more money to spend on other things. I'm sure as soon as someone farts in the Middle East, or a pipeline here bursts, gas prices will go up again. Of course, we're all ready for any increase when it comes. I still don't understand how gas prices can rise on weekends when markets are closed, anyone able to explain that??

  14. I have chrome plate holders in the back and the front because it dresses it up a bit. I took the nubs out because of the plate holder, but it rattled, so I re-installed them so the plate rests on the rubber nubs and that stopped the rattling. Regarding screws, I live in MN, the Land of Lakes and salt, so I installed stainless steel screws front and back to avoid the eventual rust streaks when the galvanization wears off.

  15. Regardless of the price of gas, it's still a good financial (and environmental) decision to own a Hybrid or PHEV. Gas may be around $2.50 for most folks (sorry West coast), but that's still money shelled out every time you go to the gas station. A fellow I work with spends over $200 a month on gas to drive 100 miles just to and from work in a F-150. Depending on how far your commute is and how many kid, errand or fun miles you drive, it's money out. In the summer with my Energi, I keep the tank between 1/4 and 1/2 and I go to the gas station every month and a half or so, that gives me more cash to spend on the things I want to buy, not need to buy.
