  1. I have to put out a word of thanks to the folks on this forum who put a lot of their time in to make this site the wealth of information that it is.  It has helped me out tremendously.  I;m sure there are a host of others out there that have solved their problems or had their questions answered due to the good work on this forum.

Whether a moderator or a frequent contributor, I've seen nothing but professionalism across the board.

    Thanks!

  2. I been to JD Powers website and can't find the CMax details of the survey.

I received a letter from Ford last week stating I can bring the car in for a MFT software upgrade and a hands free liftgate fix.  So Ford was already addressing 2 of the shortfalls.  I never considered the 2 kicks to open when locked an issue for the hands free liftgate, but I guess some folks do.  One kick would be nice, though.  My other complaint is the driver side seat heater quit working after about 3 months.  I haven't heard that being an issue for folks, so I guess that's my bad luck.

We enjoy our car very much, but I have to say that between the mileage issue and now this, I would have taken a much harder look when buying back in November.

  3. Just did a 2,200 mile trip from Arkansas to coastal North Carolina.  3 people, full of luggage, 38.5 trip average.  When in NC, I was getting 45-52 mpg driving around the local area with nice flat road conditions and warm temps.

Here's how the wife drove as we crept along in stop and go traffic on I-40 in the Smokey Mountains.   ICE, brake, ICE, brake, ICE, brake, ICE, brake.  And on and on.

Glad I had a good book.

  4. Yes, the fuses are a pain to get to and get out.  I ended up filing a small groove into a pair of small needlenose  pliers to have something to grab onto the fuses with.

As for running the ICE, I was simply following what the thread said.  If it happens again, I'll try it without running the engine.   Interesting though, while pushing the accelerator will get the ICE to come on, the engine will only increase RPM maybe a couple hundred, even with the pedal floored.

  5. A big thanks to Adair and Lauren!  Per the thread they directed me to, I pulled fuses 69 and 79 (underneath the glove box) ran the car with ICE for 5 minutes, reinserted the fuses, and problem solved.  The inaccessible entertainment screen and voice functions came back online.

Good on this forum to help folks solve these type problems.

Not so good on Ford service for not knowing this.   The C-Max may be new, but the thread that helped me was also for the Sync system on a 2011 Edge.  Seems to me that frozen screen issues have been around a while.

Bottomline, I'm happy to have this problem solved.  Thanks again.

  6. Had a 46.6mpg 189 mile trip last week.  Mid 60 degrees out, low 80s back home.  I'm very happy with that...haven't had a trip that good since I got the car in late November.  Looks like hybrids do prefer warmer weather.  I'll wait and see how the hot weather with air conditioner use goes before I'm convinced.

  7. I started a thread on this a while back.  I was having the same problem.  The verdict then was that if the car was locked, it took 2 kicks to open...one to unlock and one to lift.  I took this for action and it's worked fine since.

This sounds funny, but here it goes...  You've probably seen the C-Max ad on TV with the blue and white guy activating the liftgate with his foot.  Notice how he kicks straight into the car and then takes a step back.   I wasn't doing that... I was swiping my foot side to side and not stepping back.  I went to the blue guy's technique and no problems.

  8. 189 mile round trip last week in the Mississippi Delta (farmland that's flat as can be).  Estimate 65 mph speed limit 30%, 55 mph 60%, city 10%.  Air conditioning on the last 50 miles (temp 82 degrees) and I got 46.6 mpg.  More tailwind coming home that headwind going out, but I'm pretty happy with the mpg.

  9. Wife likes the umbrella trays.   I like the weather map.  I call that one a hidden feature because I had no idea it was there until I read about it on this forum.  Afterwards, I went to the owners manual and couldn't find it in there.  Works like a champ, though.

Haven't used this one, and it's already been mentioned...the storage areas underneath the rear floor mats are cool hidden features.

  10. I'm not posting as much because I've spent time with the car (4.5 months, 9,500 miles) and the learning curve is not so steep as it was as first.  I still get on the forum several times a week to see what's new, though.  If I can provide some input I do, but almost always there's someone more knowledgeable than me that's already pitched in.

I gotta say this forum was a great resource while getting started in the C-Max.

  11. I have noticed something weird twice when starting in reverse out of my garage. I cannot recall the exact circumstances of the first time it happened (except that the battery charge was low and the engine turned on at startup). The problem re-occurred this evening, when I started the car the engine started up becuase the battery was low (about 25-30% charge). When I put it in gear for reverse and let off the brake nothing happened (which I have found is typical - sometimes it has to get a tap on the gas before it starts moving), well I tapped the gas and nothing. Checked the brake, it was not set and this is a level driveway/garage. Tapped down some more and the engine clearly reved, but no movement, I also noticed the engine seemed to struggle a bit so I let off the gas. I shifted back to Park and then back to Reverse and gave it some gas, this time it did start to move. The ambient temps were in the upper 80's, low humidity (no rain today and it did not feel humid, I think it was less than 50%), and the car had been setting for a day, but otherwise nothing out of the ordinary.

Has anyone else noted any weirdness like this?

CNCGeek, I had this same thing yesterday.  It was early morning, temps around freezing.  I shut the car off, turned it back on and no problems.  Could it be a CVT anomaly?

  12. You didn't say what the temps where so I'm  guessing 50degs so you lost 4mpg for temps and your effective speed was 85-90mph so 30mpg sounds about right. Aero drag goes up exponentially. So if you slowed down to 60mph you would probably be getting 40mpg. Do you ever notice that winds are rarely tail windsand when they are they only last at most a hundred miles.

Ptjones, in retrospect I think you're right.  It was actually a mid 30s degree day.

I've had to make some day trips lately with prevailing headwinds on the way out, but in the evening when the wind dies down, no tailwind on the way home.  Just my luck.

It'll be interesting to hear everyone's mpg results as the weather warms up.  I'm expecting to hear good things.
