  1. Strangely enough gaps on the right side almost the same as on the left in our 2013 SEL. Panel looks centered.
  2. O, no problem. I guess my interpretation of sarcasm is bit different then yours.
  3. I am glad you asked. As of now I am averaging 37.5 miles per gallon in pure ICE mode. Granted it is rental and I do not know how well it was maintained. BTW, where did I say that my rental Hyundai is high tech. On-contrary, I used rental Hyundai as an example of the spartan low cost car that has this feature done right. That is all.
  4. She does it, turning wheel to take a look. Said that, why in the name of progress, and continence, not to light up gear letter indicator to show what gear you are in. After all, you are already looking at it, so just include visual indicator. It is not too hard, is it it? To me it looks like bean counter cost cutting. There are many ways to accomplish certain tasks. some of these ways are easy and intuitive, and some are counterproductive. This is a high tech car, that also demands premium price, why not execute it right? Why go 95% distance and leave 5% unfinished? You also pointed out that this is a high tech car, and I should learn new things. Thing like what, turning steering wheel to see selected gear, recharging 12 V battery every month? So please tell me why is a high tech car uses outdated technology? Why my rental Hyundai Elantra has visual indicator on a shifter consul and also in the middle of dashboard without turning steering wheel to see it? I do not want to relearn 1980's ways of doing things. Also, dash board has 3 screens, make a gear indicator somewhere in the middle without visual abstraction or additional body movements or procedures, it is not hard to do. Ford is trying to compete with Japanese and Korean car makers, and pushing for comfort and technological differentiation, well current gear shifter indication design is none of the above. I hope this explanation makes my position more clear. As far as loaner car, they got me into Enterprise rental, where I have to pay $5 per day for some domestic security tax. I can leave with this. Now, let see what is a problem with this car.
  5. Well, just finished talking with a service adviser from dealership. He told me it would take 3-4 days before he will have a chance looking at it...... I am like O.K., can I have a loaner, and he is: I will call you back after 9:30 because Enterprise rentals is open at 9:00. He also said I might be charged for a loaner. Odd, I thought loaner free during the original new car warranty. Am I wrong? Can anybody confirm what is a Ford loaner car policy for a new car warranty. Thank you.
  6. Another thing. The engineer at Ford that was responsible for gear changer design must be fired. This is most confusing shifter I have used. My wife constantly selects lower gear due to confusing design. Why place a gear markings on a shifter column, where there is no indication on it what position shifter is in? Just place red line or pointer on it to indicate where it is. The dashboard indicators are obstructed by the steering wheel, so she does not see where it lends. Odd design. I like Japanese designs. Gears are offset so when you select drive it is a last position on a it, when need to select park it is all the way up and to the left. I do it without looking at it, intuitively.
  7. Does not looks like a battery problem because if press start button, car turns on, and AC running and the whole 9 yards, radio, head lights windows go up and down. Looks to me a shifter or tranny issue. Said that, it might be 12 V battery, who knows, anyway the car just been picked up and in route to the dealer night drop off box. Will keep posting.
  8. Hello. Tonight our new 2013 C Max SEL (1400 miles) decided to stop cooperating. After returning from the super market, I drive into our driveway that has about 3% incline toward house. I placed shift changer into parking position, and let break paddle go. Guess what, car start moving forward. I reapply breaks to stop it from rolling forward into my kids. Scary thing. Few moments latter, I looked on dash board, where gear selector shows what position shiftier is on, and all letters where white. To me it indicates that even thou gear selector was all the way forward supposedly in parking position, actually it was not. Well, I am thinking, let me move it into reverse gear, and then back to parking. To my surprise the sifter is stuck and cannot be moved. Releasing break paddle, car holds position, stopped sliding forward. I ask my wife to seat in a driver seat, then I try to push car back, thinking it would release sifter, or unlock transmission, but no luck. The insult to injury is that, after turning car off, it is still on with message to place gear selector into park position. That means by the morning 12v battery will be dead. Called Ford Emergency service 90 minutes ago so that they will tow me to a dealer. We will see what they will tell me. Question is, does anyone else had the same issue with this transmission? Thank you.
  9. Odd, I thought that modern batteries in cars are maintenance free, and do not require periodic maintenance. This should be done in cases where you park your car for prolong period of time, let say month. With daily driving it should not be needed, as car electronics are capable to maintain battery optimal charge, this is not model T. I understand rational behind your statement, but not everyone have an ability to charge car battery. What if someone live in a big apartment complex with no garage and only street parking? What we have in our C MAX is engineering defect. Hopefully Ford can isolate issue/s and final fix it once and for all.
  10. drdiesel1 thank you for your advise it does minimizes downtime. Said that, before I took delivery of this car, I ask ford dealer to perform car inspection. They applied all software updates, checked battery, replaced engine oil and so on. So in this respect, it is all good. I do have a jump cables in this car just in case. Said that, C MAX is my wife primary car, where she used it to go to work and drive kids around. Been two working parents is tough on schedule and particularly when we are hour apart driving distance. Also, she is good with kids and not with cars. I also have AAA and ford road side assistance. The problem is, these services are not instantaneous, It could be 30 min before someone will show up. Been stuck with a dead car and two little kids anywhere is not a good idea. So when new car is purchased, there is a great and founded expectation of it to be reliable, more reliable than car it replaces. We all understand that there is a chance of breakdowns with a new car, but there is also expectation of these breakdowns to be addressed and fixed right first time. The issue with 12V battery is not resolved by the manufacturer, and it been drugged for at least a year, that is what makes this car highly unreliable perception wise. Also, as far as small rechargeable jump start battery, why would I have to pay additional money for the emergency device if I am not the cause of this emergency. Ford did not charge us for tire kit, right? Therefore in a conclusion, I can say that Ford has a mess on their hands as far as general public perception on a quality of Ford product and it is not a good situation. P.S. drdiesel1, again, thank you for your advise, I also do not bash C MAX, I do believe this is a good car, I just do not see urgency on Ford company part. As someone here said: with this reoccurring issue, why not provide existing owners of C MAX with additional warranty to ease our concern and show Ford's commitment to the customers and this product.
  11. Thank BobjuBtob. It is a real shame. I actually like this car better then mine GS350. So far we drove 500 miles on it, on a highway and in the city. So far 44.5 m/g. This car has a great potential. Ford better fix battery issue fast, or they might lose public confidence.
  12. Hello Ashley. Just want to tell you thank you for been here for us. The reason I am writing this note is to ask for an direction on what to do. The situation is, we got 2013 cmax SEL (leftover). so far we are having it for tree days. Total mileage is 230 miles so far. This morning, third morning of owning it, car was dead, and would not start. I jump start it, and my wife went on her way. I believe there is no point to go for dealer service since by that time battery will be fully charged. I did call Ford customer center and ask them to record this event for my car. Is anything else should I do? Thanks Dmitriy
  13. Hi All. On a third day of ownership 2013 C Max SEL made in late May 2013 with total 200 miles,( It was a leftover form 2013 model year ). the 12 v battery died. I had to jump start this car to make it go. Wonderful. Looking forward to more of these pleasures of owning my first Ford product. So I guess there is no permanent fix of 12v battery for our cars. The thing is my wife car, and I had a great deal of influence to swing her from Lexus CT hybrid to Ford c max. She did not mind paying more for Lexus, but I insisted to go with CMAX for a size difference. One of her concerns was a reliability of it. I guess she was right....as usual.... :(
  14. Thank you every one for replying to my inquiry. Igess I learned a great deal of information about HVB. I see what ford did with HVB. Not like Tesla, where they can go as low as 5% of remaining charge. Well, so far so good. In 2 days my wife drove 200 miles mixed driving, bunch of rolling hills, car still return 46 miles/gallon. Looks like HVB is good. Thank you again. P.S. first time Ford owner. (Prefer Japanese iron).
  15. Thanks komondor. Mine was build end of may 2013. My concern is not build date but how well dealer kept this car. if they start them once per month to recharge batteries, then no problem. If they neglected these cars, than battery could be damage for been left in discharges state for too long. Just want to see if I can run any internal test to see what battery internal capacity now.
  16. Hi everyone. We just purchased 2013 c max SEL 301a (leftover). When we picked up car, it had 9 miles on it, looks like factory original. The reason we got this car, is because it was leftover form 2013 and in my area C max's do not move from the dealer lot so had room for negotiations. Long story short, it was sitting on a dealer lot for about 11 month. Said that, Li-Ion batteries are very sensitive to been left discharged. What I understand, if Li-Ion battery left discharged for a long time, it will loose large chunk of charge capacity. So the question is, is there is a way to see what is a remaining battery capacity is? Thanks, P.S. so far we got 150 miles on this car, and averaging 48 miles per gallon. same commute in Mazda 5 (traded it for C Max) was returning around 20. Therefore as far as performance, no complains.
