Is it wise to plug in the car charger to a extension cord. I was wondering because i did and the extension cord got very warm. I am new here so be gentle

The wife and I purchased a new to us 2013 sterling gray energi. It will be hers and i drive a F150. It had 16,000 on it when we picked it up last week.So far in a week she has used a 1/8 of a tank. That is pretty good considering i use that starting my truck.
