  1. WOO-HOO!!! Way to go high-MPG, Tomasz! So how did you get the Big Boy filled up to start with? Did 2 miles drain it much? Come on, deliver the goods to the rest of us.... Ciao ~ MomsHugs aka Eve
  2. This Red Line Black Leatherette Armrest fits the 2013 C-Max SEL, but not the 2014 (yet).
  3. There seems to be some awesome minds on this thread. Considering how primitive computers were 50 years ago, only far-sighted geniuses would have comprehended how they could be used. THAT is the analogy that leads me to believe gasoline will be seen as a primitive source of fuel 50 years from now with fuel made from new chemical combinations (e.g., fertilizer components). Whichever country is the source of basic materials from which fuel, batteries or fertilizer are made will be the richest. Regardless, WATER will trump everything else so of primary importance is how to invent new fuels using salt water with/without salinization... or not use water at all.
  4. Coming from 5'8" with long arms/legs, I am having the same problem with the arm rest covering the center console. First thought I had was why the devil didn't they make it movable so I could slide it forward on longer trips. Second thought was to move my seat back & the steering wheel forward to compensate, which worked... somewhat. This is ripe opportunity for those 3rd-party folks to make us one that would fit tightly over ours with a padded front sticking out like a cantilever. Anyone???
  5. Ahem... You boys like to tweak your 'space' like us girls do? Figure you know what I'm talking about if you had to help your wives move furniture around... for no good reason other than wanting to change how it looks. PS: My Intrigue's dash still looked good as new after 15 years - half in the freezing Tundra up north & half in the HOT Deep South. It was dusted maybe 2x/yr & detailed with something a couple times over the years, but that's the extent of care. Was the plastic made better?
  6. PS: Best coin holder I've ever used... & highly recommend... is a small metal breath mints holder from Starbucks.
  7. Ditto C-MaxSea aka Nick on total lack of information of OP's complaint. Fess up, Thomas! Your post does seem rather trollish. My '98 Olds Intrigue has a coin holder that held 3 different size coins, which I'd have kept had I ever used it. The Intrigue had a deep well under the dash, as well as under the armrest for 'stuff' - plus a cup holder ahead of the shift & another cup holder after the shift. It also had a door pocket for maps. So what did I do with all those cubbies? Stuffed them full of 'stuff' - cubbies became litter boxes! ScubaDad's list of C-Max cubbies is great. However, I made a solemn vow not to stuff mine full of litter again! Cheers ~ Moms/Eve Oh... & the Olds had an ashtray that also served as a coin holder, which took up residence in the glove compartment never to see the light of day or night again... same as that handy-dandy multiple-coin holder.
  8. Ruby Red ~ absolute fav & mine is too! If you're in any of the SE states, sign in at the South Atlantic Region forum thread. Ciao! MomsHugs aka Eve
  9. Actually there are 2 routes up to the lake - Hwy 72 & Hwy 77, which would make a nice challenge for a SE Atlantic meet-up! Of course, Paul (PTJones) & Mike (Kelleytoons) might have to take on the challenge of leading each team/caravan of C-Maxii. Lake Russell State Park (7 mi. north of Elberton, GA) would be a beautiful destination point with a huge parking area next to the lake & a Group Shelter that seats 175 ($205). Something to think about! Ciao ~ Moms/Eve

    From the album: Moms' MPG

Returned by same route from Lake Russell driving on 2 lane highway with enormous hills.

Interesting watching when leaves grew larger & when leaves moved off to the side. Immediate feedback & good learning tool!
  15. From the album: Moms' MPG

MPG on 100 mile round-trip to Lake Russell on 2-lane highway used only 2 gal. of gas driving enormous hills most of the way.
  16. I drove 50 miles to a lake & back this morning. Got 50 MPG going & 52 MPG coming back = 100 mi. round trip using only 2 gal. of gas - even with a lot of steep hills! Sure beats 6-7 gallons the old car used for the same trip. :happy feet:
  17. Most of our scientific advances have come from looking for something else. Computer chips became nano-sized due to discovering new materials, combinations of materials or new uses for old materials. Same thing happened with MRI & CT scans. We wouldn't know anything about DNA sequencing if it weren't for radiography. Endocrine disruption by BPA plastic was discovered while looking for cancer. Even those ubiquitous sticky notes came about due to faulty adhesive at 3-M's labs. Such 'happy accidents' probably occurred as far back as the discovery of fire FCOL. So who knows what might be discovered in the way batteries can be made in the future. It will likely happen while someone is looking for something else! As an aside... my first computer class in the early 70's involved writing code using IBM cards. While I did my homework in the computer lab, my 2 little kids played games coded in one of the other IBM machines. Anyone else recall how those cards worked?
  18. Hey, guys, thanks for the  & encouragement. I hope it wasn't just a gauge goof!
  19. Changing social behavior is the key to reduced gas consumption. Higher gas prices did little if anything to reduce demand for larger pickup trucks & SUVs, which most owners drive aggressively, using their vehicles as surrogates for dominating behavior... men & women alike. Driving a 2-ton double-axle dump truck for a construction company in mid-70's taught me a lot about people's driving habits. So did listening to a CB radio on the Interstate with 18-wheeler drivers having to deal with the idiots driving 4-wheelers who cut in front of them. There is no excuse for such stupidity in our country, but there you have it. Living "green" means more than just buying a hybrid/electric car. Mathematically, I was able to achieve 75 MPG in my Olds Intrigue the old-fashioned way -- fewer errands/shopping, etc. = fewer miles = less gas usage = higher MPG. Same with recycling plastic containers & other packaging .. which is energy intensive & can be avoided for the most part. Our country is on a collision course for energy & water, both of which will be the underlying cause of civil war... not race or creed. People will be forced to change their habits then. Sometimes I have renewed hope it will be avoided by the younger generations changing their priorities in time, but seriously doubt it. Every major war was caused by ignoring the laws of economics for too long. Sorry to be so pessimistic, but have studied human behavior for a very long time.
  20. It is much easier when no one is following me up close, trying to run me over.
  21. OMG! Without anyone tailgating me, I actually got 81 MPG on a short trip tonight!! :yahoo: Proof is in the pudding... or the attached photo of the digital dash readout. MomsHugs/Eve
  22. If you haven't yet posted on the 2014 topic forum, you might want to ask that question there & on the Battery topic forum.
  23. No, but IIRC from your first post, you didn't either until your 2013 had over 8000 miles on it. As a result, I returned to the Battery topic & read more about getting a battery voltage device & jump starter ... you know - to be prepared - just in case. Did the dealer/service dept send help to you today?
  24. Full disclosure: My brother was a Ford Service Advisor in the Midwest for many years & is a Ford man all the way. His son-in-law was a Ford mechanic & is now a Service Advisor. A close friend's daughter is an Automotive Engineer with Ford. You might think I would have asked their advice about the C-Max, but I did not. I read MotorTrend, Car Connection, etc. & posts in this forum (12V failures almost convinced me to buy Toyota's Prius V instead). I also read CR's 2014 Auto summary, but CR surveys did not influence my reasoning/decision since they are based upon outdated data. After a few months of research, driving both cars convinced me I would be happier with the 2014 C-Max SEL - believing battery problems should be corrected. Sure hope I'm right about that!
  25. CMax lover ~ Hope the dealer called back & sent help today. Let us know what happened. Cheers ~ MomsHugs/Eve
