  1. I've also noted the 2 stage engine warm up, especially since the FE related TSB upgrade. Another Forum suggested one was for EV OT and other was ICE OT. With -20C/-2F plus windchill yesterday, the pipe insulation covering part of upper grill kept car cosy though of course FE took huge hit - from 6L/100km to 8L/100km when driving 80% city. Don't know about an engine hot spot but interior temp seems to go beyond the 21-22C setting that I use. Anyone else seen this? Also - door handles seem to be temp sensitive - would open only with glove-free hand yesterday.
  2. My cheque came by Fedex Tuesday (Toronto).
  3. I called Ford Customer line today. Didn't ask about sequencing but they said they are processing remainder by end of month, then mailed out - end result: everyone up here should have theirs before Xmas.
  4. In my part of Canada, ethanol is added to Regular (up to 10% in 87 octane) but not to Premium (91). I don't know if the octane level is maintained with the ethanol added, or if it is 87 before adding the ethanol and it slips a bit. With my last car (2007 Nissan Sentra), I tried Premium for 6 months and basically saw a 10% FE improvement with a 12-14% price premium. Based on reading earlier postings on the Forum, I decided to try Premium for July-Dec, and am basically seeing the same results (a little behind with Fuelly entries). (My 600+ tank reported in Forumm was on Regular.) I'm up to 33000km/20000 miles so well past any break-in considerations. Another factor: Had the PCM update done about a week ago so too early to add that into the picture, but seemed a bit better on highway trip to the cottage, even with colder weather (mid 30's F) - 5.8 vs 6.2 l/100km at about 110km/hr. Regardless the ride in C-Max is great. ps - tried a tank of "super premium" (octane 94) from a national brand and FE dropped!! Maybe ECU reprogramming couldn't handle it.
  5. Wow. Great to have different levers that can be used to tune mileage with Maxie - and the impressive results starting to show up. Looking for it up here in Canada before chilly weather. Next stage of the dream: Give me as the driver choice of 2+ modes of driving (all highway, all city, mix - for example) that I choose before each outing/season where a push button or code presets Maxie to maximize my driving for performance (uphill both ways!) or FE or summer heat or winter cold .. etc.
  6. That 765 miles is something else!! I wonder if I am one of the northern-most 600+ mile club members. Thought I saw Adair and other neighbours in Michigan break through already. Thought about trying for an even 1000 km (relax - not miles) for the tank and probably could have made it. Lot of fun riding around with the red line for last hour or so. Conversion rate: 1km = 0.625 miles (close enough). (will edit later when figure out how to post a picture) 965.4 km on 48.42 L (5.0L/100km)
  7. Friend and I shared driving on a 15 hour trip recently. When she took over on one switch at a gas fill up, I went to sleep. A couple of hours later when I woke up, happened to see that fuel efficiency was down quite a bit --- and that she had been driving expressway speed in ... oops ... L not D gear! Temp and noise levels were both ok and manual says we can switch to (and stay in?) L at any speed ... so some immediate relief was had by all. And C-Max returned to normal fuel efficiency for hwy and matched city FE just fine when back home. Any suggestions on things to keep an eye on? I am guessing an earlier tranny fluid change may be worthwhile. PS - Thank goodness for Trip meters - reset Trip1 after the fill-up and that's where I first noticed something was off. Otherwise there was no whiny noise as with usual trannies.
  8. Bags of milk are going strong in Ontario (central Canada). The cows like it and apparently produce more - milk not stinky methane. Flashing "advanced-go" greens are out, intersection uturns are in.
  9. I agree - when doing long highway hauls (>250km or >150miles), I've been getting best numbers on straight eco-cruise. Nothing compared to city numbers but I'm making first spring-temperature run this week and will see what we get.
  10. Ya,Laurel, the conversion of fuel consumptions between neighbours is something. There is only one thing more confusing: how Transport Canada got its 4.0/4.0/4.0 L/100km numbers - this is like 57 MPG US (vs their EPA numbers of 47 MPG). With the warmer weather coming, I've just started seeing milage improvements - but I can count on 1-2 fingers the number of times its dipped under 4 on any trips more than 10 km. The way I look at it now is that my lifetime average, considering all 4 seasons, will likely be near my friend's Prius average of 5.7L/100km (about 40 MPG), but the C-Max gives me the potential to reach some amazing numbers depending on my patience, driving skills and ambient temperature. It's the same technology so in the end no surprise. But my attitude and new way of driving with a hybrid can make a difference in ways that no other car I've driven ever could. Still worth it!!
  11. Thought I was going to coast into 600 mile club with the warmer weather this week ... then my son said he had topped the tank up with $20 (sign) Adair - happy you could make those numbers!
  12. Slow at unlocking 3-4 times so far (4 months). In the cold, I found I had to take my glove off and then worked fine - coincidence?
  13. Ya, Rachel, I haven't done many steady highway trips yet, but with the ones I have done, mileage has stayed healthy when driving above the EV line (63mph/100km/h) - still not what I might expect in warm temperatures but not worse than city/hwy I am getting in the cold. With Empower view, I notice that after the battery is charged fully, there is some "battery assist" (battery discharging like EV) intermittently When we get to Michigan, it would be good to ask the design folks a little more about this. Maybe this has been covered on some other threads already (where?).
  14. Looks great - the dots brighten up the place nicely. The dead foot almost looks like a big "thumbs up"! Have a good Easter/Passover folks.
  15. 0-20 - if no one is behind, I'll stay in EV but most times, especially if not in curb lane, I accelerate modestly with traffic to lessen frustration for others behind me. 20-55 - I go into EV as soon as I can, for as long as I can, taking foot off pedal if ICE kicks in and I think I can stretch EV (ie enough battery left, engine temp is ok,, etc) >55 - I am finding eco/cruise to work as well as I can manually - so now I just trust the car smarts. I am so glad engine is silent at stops, stop-and-go traffic and red lights - feels great. It is still cold here so my mileage numbers are average with others up north - but any time weather goes above zero, I hit city and city/hwy EPA numbers easily. Looks like warm weather is a month away at least.
  16. Battery charge level at start up seems to be key for me. I've driven for several minutes in EV after start up in 40F and 0F weather from a cold start. Most times ICE kicks in at first sign of load (going up the hill on our street) and most times battery level is near bottom. But I agree - coasting silently to start and end trip home is a great reminder of hybrid nature of the C-Max.

    Rattles

Rattles from sunglasses and loose stuff in glove compartment sometimes - car itself remains solid after 8000+ km/5000+miles.
  18. I've had mostly Honda Civics - and could pretty much hit their published numbers in real world [summer] driving over 25 years. Last car before the C-Max was a Nissan Sentra with leather+ - but just couldn't make their numbers without a tail wind and helium balloons lifting it off the ground. Friend's Altima had better real numbers but falls short of its pub num too. C-Max is the first car that rewards my good habits - slow off the line, steady stopping, driving near speed limits, keeping AC and heater use down - so incredibly, and so comfortably. I'm with you, Adair - similar range of mileage experiences and just wait until it warms up.
  19. Thanks for sharing the northerly experiences, Plus3 and wamba. Look forward to seeing some pictures of the coco's. Wonder if Ford would have some available by the time of the Michigan gathering? (hint for anyone listening)
  20. The extenders add a good 6 inches to the latch position. Basically it moved from being near seat level reach to a position resting on a front pocket of a winter coat - super easy to snap in and buckle up! For summer, I'll probably store them away with winter tires.
  21. On the recent long trip cited, I wanted to watch the trip screens as well. I decided to try Eco-cruise at 50-60 mph depending on hwy - though I found not much difference on hills with "eco" compared to straight cruise ctl. After a while, things just started to average out - and as others urged on other threads, I just relaxed and enjoyed driving this terrific machine with no commuting traffic to worry about (just deer and moose popping up now and then) Temp was just a few degrees above freezing so we'll what happens in coming warm months. With previous non-hybrid cars, winter mileage would take about a 30% hit. If EV runs about 20% of time on long hwy hauls, then I am expecting that 5.7L/100km to drop 25% (30% of 80%) to about 4.6L/100km or about 50 MPG - well in range of EPA numbers. Pure city driving I spend at least 65% in EV, usually close to 80%, and occasionally on a couple of erand routes all EV for 2-3 miles. I find it easy to hit the city numbers when car is warm even if temp is below freezing, probably the on-off cycle and battery charge level stays right enough. Most times though I am starting off cold - hence the Fuelly numbers.
  22. I'm finding that too - key is spending time in EV mode. I find my EV/ICE split is running about 40-45% (and generally am close to the EPA numbers - 5.0-5.5 L/100km) when in city-hwy driving, and between 10-20% when just hwy (somewhat higher - just made an 800km/500 mile trip at 5.7L/100). I ran ICE only (about 75mph) for last 100 km/60-65 miles and it showed good fuel mileage to me - and didn't blow up the average at all. Haven't come close to the Cdn Transport dept averages of 4.0L/100km (about 58 MPG US) with any consistency, even on short trips.
  23. Glad Rachel brought this up - had never heard of SBEx's. Thanks! Winter clothes just bulk us up enough to make it a bit of pain. I went back to my dealer - no problem, no charge, pick up next day. We'll see how they fit and report back.
  24. Ya - I'm seeing wear on the dead pedal area after a few months. The sisal mats sound great but sounds like they are best for the sunny south zones. Anyone come up with something better than the C-Max rubbers for the snow and slush we have around for a few more weeks??
  25. Thanks for the suggestions, Tom and asb. It's still cold up here so haven't had time to look in the console much (USB works well, thanks). Will have a look for that slot. Good idea for a small change purse - my dad used to have one for exactly same reason. Wife was too funny one day. "Wish there was a place I could put my gloves when in the car ...Does the C-Max have something like that? Oh yea .." (points to G.C.)
