Dead Again Bad News: C-max is dead. (14th time in 1300 miles) fourth time to dealer. Good News died in a position where it can be towed. I just left a message with Ford Customer care, it will be interesting to her back from them. I am to the point where I hope they offer to buy it back from me like they did for Mbedit. I really like the car except for this. More later...

Hi Salman I have had to "jump" my Cmax 12 times so far. It has been into service 3 times. I bought it on Dec 11th. 57 mpg on my trip to work tonight. So many things to like - one big thing to dislike. Cheers Andrew

Update on my Black SEL. The service dept had it for 9 days and it never dies for them. But they only drove it once a day. This leads me to think that there is one module somewhere that intermittently malfunctions on shutdown and since I start and stop it 4 or 5 times a day I actually see the problem fairly quickly. Ford roadside service said last time I called them that they cannot town a car parked nose in - so now I am being careful how and where I park so I can have it towed to them in a dead state. In the mean time I am keeping a little log of all my trips to show them. I am noticing how the Dash Panel lights up when I open the door (some times all three panels light up, sometimes just the speedometer center section lights up, sometimes nothing lights up but does after I hit the start button) I will call my Ford Customer care rep this afternoon. I noticed my bank account was debted with my first loan payment yesterday with the car in shop, I am almost hoping that Ford offers me a buyback. I really like the Cmax when it is working but this constant in and out of the dealer is wearing me down. Hoping you all have better luck Cheers Andrew

Not so sure about that, mine is an SEL

I really hope it is number 2 and Ford that figures it out soon.

That's great news. I hope this can lead to a fix. My Cmax is still in the shop. Please keep us posted on your vehicles progress. Andrew

The Car was not on. I hope the proximity key does not have more than a 10 foot range. I don't want to leave my keys on the dining room table - start the car - drive to work and be stranded.

My Service Manager just called. He told me he was able to drive my car around for about 200 yards even though the key was in his desk. He now thinks it might be a shut down/shut off issue. He is going to call the service hot line again with this info. He wants Ford to send an engineer out here to look at the car. So it will be interesting to see how they respond. Andrew

Hi All: Thanks salman. My service guy did say that the new battery was good. Its a bummer the forum rules wont let me send a msg to Redldr1 until I accumulate enough posts, but it would be interesting to find out if the new dash assembly cured his Cmax. So after my 10 hour graveyard shift the Cmax was again completely dark. I called Ford roadside assistance and waited an hour. the tow truck showed up and informed me that he had to jump the car because I did not park nose out. Just not my day. I drove the car to Ford and handed it off. The Service manager is rather baffled - I told him about my dash light observation. I have a rental car again. People at work are giving me the ol' Fix Or Repair Daily jokes now. I hope they find out something. Cheers Andrew

Redldr1: Have you had any problems with your Cmax since they put a new display in? Cheers from a rather chilly southern California

Hi All: Ford called me Thursday and told me that they believed it was the dealer installed alarm system was not compatible with the Cmax. They took the alarm out (refunded my money) and gave it back to me. I drove it all day Friday and all was good. When I went to use it Saturday morning it was dead. Very sad. I am going to drive it and hopefully it will die again when the service department it open and I will have them see it in its dead state (although I do not think it will help them diagnose the problem - just show them in its dead state) What I am noticing is that sometimes when I open the door only the ambient lights and the center sync display light up. The main driving display is dark and only comes on when I hit the start button most of the time when I open the door the main driving display lights up. Sometimes only the speedometer lights up and the left and right side displays are dark. I think I read some other member had a short in his display. I will call my service manager and Ford customer service tomorrow. Cheers

I dropped my Cmax off at Ford today. They gave me a loaner, which was nice. They are going to talk to The Ford Hybrid Engineering team and try to find some answers (I hope)

Cool weather has come to Southern California and the 12volt battery is not handling it well. I was hopeful when the dealer found a problem in one of the cells in the original battery and replaced it with a new battery, but the dreaded totally dead Cmax has come back. I have had to jump it almost every other start attempt, and always when it is less than 40 degrees F. In a perfect world I would call roadside assistance to get the problems in the system, but after a graveyard shift one simply wants to go home and sleep - jumping it with the portable takes less than 45 seconds (with all the practice I am getting I might get it down under 30 seconds). I will start calling Ford locally and nationally on Wednesday and hope that we all are starting to light a fire under some engineers ass. I notice that the PRNDL lights stays on after I close the door when all the other lights go off. I wonder if this is a discharging problem or a charging problem. I have an SEL with all the options except the foot activated lift gate. Cheers all and lets look forward to Ford fixing this soon. Andrew

Hi: I bought mine at Vista Ford in Oxnard. Tuxedo Black SEL. no problems in the last week. Cheers

It is not on costco.com. I bought it at a warehouse. Sorry I do not have the item number its full name is PowerStation PSX Multi-Purpose Rugged Vehicle Utility Jump Starter and Air Compressor I saw a pallet full of them last friday. the air compressor is great too especially since I am a soccer coach. Cheers

I bought my portable jumper at Costco. I have had to use it three times so far. It works great. Since it does not have to turn a starter motor it actually needs very little juice from the portable jumper. I thought I had the problem licked when they found that my original battery had a fault in it. I will bring it in again and hope they can find the deeper problem.

My Cmax also suffers from the dead 12V problem. I thought I had it cured when the dealer found that there was a short in the 12V battery and they put a new one. But yesterday afternoon I found it dead. The good news is that it since you do not have to power a starter motor when you jump it - it is very easy to do so. I now carry my trusty Costco self powered jumper box with me - it works like a charm. I will take it to the dealer again after xmas and mention the dash display. I am still happy with the car, but I would like this annoyance gone.
