  1. Is anyone familar with the 12M02 FSA? I tried searching for this on the forum but did not find anything.

Looking on http://etis.ford.com I see that my C-Max is designated for this. The description there is:

12M02 - SYNC WITH MYFORD/MYLINCOLN TOUCH - WARRANTY EXTENSION COVERING ACCESSORY PROTOCO L INTERFACE MODULE (APIM)

I was wondering if this is an actual improvement or just an adminstrative descriptor that does not require any actual "action".

  2. I'm rather late to this thread, but for those above who get 43 mpg on the highway, I'd be curious to hear at what speed you typically drive. I'm in the "thinking about one of these" mode. Only about 20% to 25% of my driving is highway, but I'd like to have a realistic expectation. I'm typically a 70 to 75 mph driver, but not much of a "zoomer".

I just made a two-way highway trip today. On the interstate for 43 miles each way. Tempertures were 50's in the morning and 60's this afternoon. Speeds were mostly 60-65MPH. Mileage was 48-50MPG in the morning and about 45MPG in the afternoon.

Because of the increased traffic in the afternoon it was harder to keep a constant speed as traffic was merging from the right and sometimes I had to speed up or slow down to accomodate. This made it difficult to keep the ICE engaged and the battery charged. When letting off the accelerator the ICE turned off and the car went into electric and started discharging the battery.

My results may or may not be typical but I would expect to see mileage in the lower 40's at 70-75MPH speeds.

  3. So the assistance is administrative, not technical? Opening a case file doesn't sound like it addresses the primary objective which is to have a car that will reliably start on demand. Come to think of it, if Ford has not been able to solve this problem at this point, what difference will it make if the dealer is sub-par or not? It sounds like the solution to this problem will have to come from Ford and not the dealer network.

Administrative support would be beneficial if the problem was just troubleshooting and one dealer was better at it than another one. From what I can tell from these 12v battery threads, a final fix has not been found regardless of the dealer used or how much administrative support was provided. If this is not correct, someone please say so.

  4. finally got my car back - they had to get yet another update - something to do with things not turning off properely and draining the battery - they didn't say what "things" even when I asked. They said it what was what also caused the power train fault to appear.

Are you saying you asked the dealer what, specifically, they did to your car and they refused to answer? You should have been given a document showing the exact work done including the codes for any recall work.

  5. I have heard both sides of the Tesla vs. Dealerships argument.

It is really the story of an entrenched business model that has been around for almost 100 years against the better mouse trap of distibution. Local dealerships benefit from state franchise laws because they are protected against competition. In the past the intended competition was their own manufacturers. Now, Tesla comes along and wants to sell its own cars without the burden of creating a dealer network. The auto dealers are afraid that their protected business model is threatened.

Dealers created a system where they added value to the customer by having vehicles on-site, advising during the selling process, coordinating financing and licensing, providing maintenance and repairs, etc. Tesla, and its target customers, may not require all (or maybe any) of these value-added processes. They created a way of selling cars that is more efficient to their cutomer base. You now have a car that requires much less maintenance and repair (electric motors), an affluent and technologically-savy customer base that can do their own research and you begin to not need a dealer network.

Conventional dealers feel threatened, not by Tesla, but what Tesla can teach the larger manufacturers. The final price of a car contains a lot of cost that comes from the franchised dealer business model.

  6. I thought I read that this problem happen with SE models and not SEL models. If that is the case I would have up graded to an SEL, less risk. IMO

Others may have more information but I think while the large majority of 12v battery problems are with SE vehicles, there have been a few SELs as well. That's just from seeing responses on this forum. I would agree that there is less risk with the SEL but it is unfortunate that Ford can't provide a consistent product for those that choose the SE.

  7. I'm sorry you had these experiences but, with all due respect, I have been reading these kinds of posts on the Prius forum for years. Hybrid driver gets tailgated / cut off / flipped off / etc. and assumes it is because the other driver is anti-hybrid.

Before assuming anything I would like to see some real evidence that these other people don't like hybrid cars from some reason. In my experience there are a lot of jerks on the highway and they would still be jerks regardless of the car you are driving.

Many hybrid drivers are enthusiastic about their cars, as am I. But some tend to place a lot of importance on their choice of transportation and then potentially feel victimized when they run across some these aforementioned jerks. Please note that I am talking generally and not you personally, jmckinley.

  8. The further you go, the more miles driven/fuel used the mileage meter has recorded. With more data it takes longer to change the average mileage number.

For example, right after you reset the mileage meter it displays numbers based on very little data so there is a lot of variance. As you travel further there is more data to make a more stable average.

  9. I've never tried to connect to a WIFI access point.  I have used the CMax as an access point within the car to share my iPad's internet connection with others in the car.

I'm curious how you did this and why.

I have felt that the WiFi system in the C-Max was pointless since you needed some additional device to provide the internet connection. If you have a phone that can be enabled as a hot spot, why have others in the car connect to the C-Max? Why not have them connect directly to the hot spot enabled phone?

  10.

From that post it seems like MFT downloads all contacts and stores them in the car. Is this correct? I always thought that it downloads the entire contact list each time it pairs with the phone. That's why it "thinks" for so long when the car is started.

Since my phone's contact list doesn't change very often I will try turning off the Auto Phonebook feature and see what happens.

  11. Sounds like the old "phonebook" problem.

    Check this search for "phonebook".

    http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&section=search&do=search&fromsearch=1

I searched for "phonebook" and got a number of threads that may or may not apply.

Do you mean the "too many contacts in the phonebook" problem in http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/2301-streaming-bluetooth-stuttering-solved/?hl=phonebook&do=findComment&comment=22890? If so it would seem odd that this problem would crop up after 7 months of working fine. Especially when I haven't added any contacts recently.

  12. The problems I noted at the beginning of this thread cropped up again this week after over 7 months of working fine.

One morning I noticed something odd on the MFT screen after leaving my driveway. Normally when my phone connects via Bluetooth to MFT I see a "spinning circle" showing that some action is taking place. The phone usually connects and things are fine. This week this happened but the spinning circle just halted and stayed on the screen without changing.

After this happened there was no MFT voice responding to my commands. Navigation voice was gone as well. In addition, any incoming calls would not generate a ringing sound through the car's speakers.

I bit the bullet and did a master reset last night. MFT appears to work normally now although I have to reprogram my radio presets and upload my wallpaper.

  13. When you notice the delay or even lack of response, HPRifleman, are you listening to music on your phone via USB or Bluetooth? If so, that could be causing the delays.

No. The music I am listening to is almost always via Sirius satellite radio. An iPod is plugged into one of the USB ports in the center console but is not used very often.

I tried having music on my phone and connecting that via Bluetooth but it was too much of a pain to manage all the songs and, as I remember, I couldn't use playlists properly. That may have been a phone problem but it has been a while since I attempted it that I have forgotten.

The delay in answering incoming calls is pretty minor but it is annoying. My expectation is that the sequence of "see incoming call, press button to answer, begin conversation" takes place much faster than presently happens. As it is I am waiting on the system instead of the other way around.
