MFT update to v3.8 has been released
revanoff2 replied to raadsel's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
I was alerted on the owner.ford website that I had the Sync 3.8 update to do... so I'm downloading it now. :) 2013 SEL, Built in 3/13 -
I've been toying with adding the insulating foam just to experiment. I do a lot of freeway driving in my car, and have noticed that I'm now getting about 34mpg where I used to get 38-39mpg. I attribute this almost directly to the colder weather (plus rain/wind etc.) I have almost 73k on mine now, and that being said, the car states a little over 20k has been on electric only power. This would mean the engine has approximately 53k on it. I know FORD says its a 100k mile spark plug change interval, but I'm not quite so convinced. I have noticed that my engine doesn't run as smooth as I expected it would. Now, that being said, I've been contemplating putting new plugs in it to see if that helps my MPG at all. Based on my calculations, when the ICE is running, I am getting approximately 23MPG... unless the SOC is very high. What are your thoughts on that? You also mention using premium grade fuel... whats the Octane for premium where you are? I think I'll pop in at Home Depot on the way to my house after work and pick up some of the foam. Couldn't hurt to try right? ~Revanoff2~

I just got the reminder too. Guess I'll haul it in there and have them do it. Maybe it'll fix the poor mpg I'm getting... even with the coach saying I'm terrific and using P&G driving in town.

I need this clarified. Based on my interpretation, the only item driving the wheels is MG2... which I don't think is correct. The electric motor itself is rated for 36 hp (?) and the engine is capable of 152 hp (?), and there are times when the ICE seems to be the only item propelling the vehicle. Can you explain? Thanks! ;)

Just wanted to share this little gem here.... found today when looking at the Kelly Blue Book main page. You'll find it attached. ~Revanoff~

How can I determine if the update has been applied? I've been searching (maybe not hard enough?) but have not found a way for me to determine whether it has been performed. Any help would be fantastic. On a separate note, my car finally learned what "home" is... saw EV+ for the first time yesterday. :yahoo: ~Revanoff~

It occurs to me that TFT being high is what we are considering to be the main issue, with TF flow (read: lubrication) as second. In this instance, I would expect that adding an Aux pump such as the Energi has would virtually eliminate the possibility of the TF getting too hot. How difficult/expensive would it be to fashion an Aux pump to this system to keep the TFT temp low? IF someone were really creative, I doubt it would cost that much. SInce the Hybrid is already designed for no effective fluid cooling at times when the ICE is off, we'd only need the AUX pump to operate when the ICE is off. If you wanted to take it a step further, you could even perhaps set up a thermocouple designed to run a relay to keep the fluid temperature in check automatically, which would also aid in keeping the fluid at a decent temperature (not too low, not too high). Part of the reason I mention this is because I don't know if the original warranty on mine (Built March 2013) is applicable, as I am the second owner. Thoughts? ~Revanoff~

My transmission broke and yours might too

I live in Oregon ( a proposed 150,000mile state), but I am the second owner. How does that affect the warranty on the covered Hybrid parts? Bueller?Bueller? ~Revanoff~ -
I'm 27, just bought mine last month. That should help bring the average down slightly. ~Revanoff~

I'm a little further away, down in Keizer. You should register on the Ford Website Owner.Ford.com When you've registered (input vehicle VIN, Etc.,) it will detail for you all of the updates/recalls that are needed on your vehicle. I have a couple left to do on mine to get it up to date, but I did just perform the Gen2 v3.6 MFT update which has fixed numerous issues. Down here, Skyline Ford seems to be the place to go. I wish you luck with your C-Max, I've been driving the crap out of mine and love just about every moment. ~Revanoff~

I'd never heard of one either. I call mine a "Fo-Scape" though, since it literally seems to be the gap between a Focus and an Escape. I've had mine for a couple weeks and have loved just about every minute of it. ~Revanoff~

I have the compass selectable on the right-hand screen, as well as those useless leaves. Per the factory Build sheet which I got from Ford, it doesn't specify NAV as an option with the options package I have, 300A. I guess it's not that big of a deal, but if I could locate a wrecked one, I'd pull the unit out and switch it with mine in a heartbeat. For the Bluetooth issues, I performed the Gen2 v3.6 update to MFT, and that quickly solved a number of issues. It no longer skips on bluetooth playback, and the screen is much more responsive. Phone calls are answered and ended much more quickly than they used to be as well. Overall, I'm much happier with the MFT than I was previous. On the update for fuel economy, is there a way that I can determine whether that update was performed on my vehicle? The Ford website doesn't list an update for the PCM on the subject, and the only other recalls are to do with the restraint system, and something else I can't remember. I am achieving what the EPA sticker states most of the time, but only while using purely due diligence; driving it like a Hybrid instead of a normal ICE powered vehicle. Normal C-Max newb issues I suppose. ~Revanoff~

Introduction to my "Mad Maxx" and a couple questions.
revanoff2 replied to Madmaxx21's topic in Accessories & Modifications
That ST by X-Tomi looks sick. I am not as fond of the front end of my '13 as I am the more angular "masculine" looking front fascia of the newer '15 models. I wonder how hard it would be to swap all that stuff out... Fenders, front bumper skin and grilles, headlights... etc. I am a gear-head as well. Before I bought the C-Max, I was hooning around in my 1953 Chevy Deluxe as a daily. 235 straight 6, 3 on the tree, Fenton Headers with true dual straight pipes, and lowered. I still have that car of course (I love it!). One thing that has always turned me off of newer rigs was the ability to customize them in a truly custom fashion without spending tons of $$$$. I am mostly interested in ways to make my C-Max look more aggressive, but in such a way that it doesn't detract from the inconspicuous-ness. Since mine is Silver, I will be a little more limited, as two-toning with Silver as a color can go bad really quick. I am ok with the acceleration as it's not a race car, its a mobile office. More MPGs would be awesome so I can hoon even longer! I'm 27, this is the newest rig I've ever owned. I'll have to figure some mods out. Here's the Chevy... ~Revanoff~ -
Jeromep, GM have already started this on their Silverado and GMC equivalent; saw one yesterday! Personally, with regard to this thread, I have a 6 year loan on my used 2013 SEL. It had 64k on it when purchased. I drive about 30k/year just for work, so that will be 180k miles by the time the loan has been paid off, with the 64k it already has on it will be 244k, What will the resale value be? Zero. Do I anticipate having to put a battery in it? Yes. Will I have to? No idea. My thought is that the HVB replacement hasn't been all over the news/interwebs for really any of the Hybrid vehicles. This indicates to me one of 2 things: 1. The HVB aren't an issue subject to reasonable expectations, or 2. Someone is keeping it hush-hush. I have doubts about the second one. To be honest, I have a larger concern about the engine, as there are literally no indicators on the dash that tell me WTF it is doing other than RPM when I change to MyView. It doesn't state oil pressure, temp.. nothing. Overall, I plan to drive this thing into the ground. We'll see how long it lasts. ~Revanoff~

Ford dropping Microsoft Auto in favor of QNX
revanoff2 replied to valkraider's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Sorry to be dredging, but has there been any update on all of this nonsense? The Microsoft powered MFT SUCKS. -
That is comforting to know. Thank you for the warm welcomes and info. I'll be studious for the coming weeks to learn all I can. First stop, Bluetooth issues. ~Revanoff~

Well shoot. I've been looking and saw many places where the info stated if I had a compass I had nav, but if 300a doesn't have Nav as standard, I guess I'm not going to get it. I've had it for a little over a week, and put over 1000 miles on it since then. I genuinely do like the car, but I am still getting to know it. Today I played around with basically telling the car when I wanted ICE and when I didn't. Doing this yielded me 2 trips of about 14 miles each at 51mpg avg. I am astounded by this. Granted, I won't get that on the open highway, but for between-town runs, and in-town I think it can pull some serious mpg, provided I drive with mileage in mind. I am still interested in he/she who has the most miles. I will have 100k on this car within 6 months, so I guess it will be interesting to see just how far it will go. I'll definitely be around. :) ~Revanoff~

Hey all, After doing some searching, it occurs to me that this forum would be the best option for membership. I went to Hertz last Wednesday (8/19/15) to look at a Chrysler 300 (for what reason I don't recall O_o ). Anyway, the car had way too many miles on it (124k) for what I am going to do. My job requires that I drive over 1000 miles at a time at least once a month. I needed something that would be comfy and get good fuel economy. The gentleman at Hertz was very helpful, and found me this tasty little 2013 C-Max SEL. I hadn't even considered one because I had no idea they even existed. It has higher miles on it compared to what seems most people have (64k when I bought it, 66k now). It was a fleet car of some kind for awhile, and Hertz bought it from whatever company that was. They went through it tip to stern and found absolutely nothing wrong with it. There are some very small nicks on the outside, but the interior looks and feels brand new. Being the SEL, it has a lot of the really nice things, group 300A. So; no Sony Stereo, no auto opening rear liftgate, no panoramic sunroof, and no back up camera. Honestly, I don't need any of that stuff. It is Ingot Silver which I call "Inconspicuous Business Silver". Couple of questions: Who has the highest miles on their C-Max? I'd like to get at least another 100k out of it before shipping it off to someone else, or I may choose to drive it into the ground. Also, has anyone got a spare navigation SD card? Mine is missing and while the compass is neat looking, its pretty much useless for getting around to specific locations; and I'd rather not need to use my phone for everything. I really like how it drives; though it does seem to have some acceleration torque steer to the right, and deceleration torque steer to the left when only using regenerative braking to slow the car. As others have mentioned, you do have to be wary of parking, it turns about as sharp as the Exxon-Valdez. I've also experienced the A/C freeze up situation. To prevent it from happening, I simply set the temp slightly higher and I haven't had a problem (68 deg min). Anything else I should be concerned about? I look forward to being a part of this group. ~Revanoff~
