  1. My 2013 C-Max has My Ford Touch version 3.06.   Should I do the free update to 3.10?  What does 3.10 have or not have that is an improvement over 3.06?

I think 3.06 has been working ok.  One issue it that sometimes when I change radio stations the sound changes but the old station information is still displayed.  If I turn the radio off and turn it right back on then the correct station information is displayed.  Ford tried to fix this for me once, but the fix didn't work.  I don't know if this is a MFT issue or something else.

    Thanks

    Dave

Ford chat told me I have 3.06.

They also told me how to check it on my car.  They said it's the CCPU S/W item in the settings.  Mine says  4.30.13171_PRODUCT  which Ford says translates to 3.06

I think I got 3.06 as an over the air update a few years ago.

On the big center screen I pressed on the gears and then on Help and then on System Information.  I see serial number, vin, cupu sw version, navigation version, map version, Sirius ELSN and grace note database info.  I don’t see anything that looks like MFT info.

Am I in the wrong place?

  4. Has anyone had any luck getting compensation for Ford for swollen lug nuts?

I had some very minor service done yesterday at my Ford dealer on my 2013 C-Max (108,000 miles).  The tech noted "swollen lug nuts due to age".  I looked this up.  Read about the unsuccessful lawsuit.  Then I tried my 3/4 lug wrench socket (which is a bit larger than the specified 19mm socket).  I could not get it on any of the 20 lug nuts.  Tomorrow I am replacing all the swollen nuts.

This sure seems like a manufacturing defect (poor material selection) to me.

At least I found out about it before I had a flat.

  5. Just had the "Service Tire Mobility Kit " warning come up and got rid of it by going to settings, vehicle, tire mobility kit and change the interval to 4 yrs. :)

Just got this at 6 yrs, 3 months and 94,000 miles for the first time I can recall.  I knew I would find the answer here to make this message go away.

Would love to hear about energy consumption on the Bolt!  I hope it has good reporting of Watt-Hours per Mile (or equivalent).

When we got our Bolt it had 278 miles (dealer trade from Norfolk VA to Durham NC) on it and lifetime 3.9 miles per kWh.

We are now at 3,000+ miles and lifetime 4.1 miles per kWh is.  The heater is a big energy drain.  On days where we use no heat or maybe just the seat heater we have been 4.5-5.5.  Other owners say AC does not use as much energy as the heat - we will see.

  7. What were the "signs of failure" you noted?  I've been hearing a faint whirring sound at moderate speeds that is torque dependent (goes away with no torque) and seems related to EV mode.  It has been there for maybe 20k or 30k miles.  I'll see if anything changes with new tires but don't see how tire noise would be torque dependent.  Might be a CV joint (?) - sure hope its not the transmission!

The earlier signs of impending failure were very rough start when the car was cold and big battery was so low that gas engine came on as soon as car was started AND whining noise when gas engine was sending juice to the hybrid battery.  My hearing is poor so the noise may have been becoming more prominent and I didn't notice it as much as I should have.

Then it got much worse in mid-January.

    Our car sounded like this.

  8. 2013 C-Max built November 2012.

Bought Chevy Bolt in December 2017.  C-Max now relegated to #2 position.  C-Max stages transmission failure protest in mid-January at 93,000+ miles.

Brought car to dealer on a Monday.  Warranty repair authorized on Tuesday.  All parts delivered on Friday.  Car ready to go on Wednesday morning.

Everything working great.  MPG seems to have improved (+3 or 4) some, but it might be the unusually (or is it now the usual) warm February weather.  In retrospect I think the transmission was showing signs of failure for a while but nothing like the awful noise it started making in January.

  9. We had our cabin air filter changed early in September.  We usually have the fan on the second or third lowest speed setting.  Last week we were on a trip to the mountains and had occasion to turn the fan up closer to the highest speed.  When we did this there was an annoying vibrating/humming sound from the ventilation system -  very constant, not the click-click-click sound of a leaf in the squirrel cage.  Has anyone else experienced this after changing their cabin air filter?

  10. Our C-Max, moving at 1-2mph, rolled into a trailer hitch (battering ram) on the back of a large pick-up truck.  The upper grille, lower grille, grille shutters, front bumper cover, energy absorber, impact bar, ornament, A/C condenser and radiator all need to be replaced, and the leading edge of the hood needs to be repaired and repainted.  Total for repairs $5414.95.

See attached photos (sorry, can't figure out how to keep them from rotating).  Note aluminum pan underneath to catch the dripping coolant.

We hope to have our C-Max back by the middle of next week.

  11. Can a donut spare be used on a front wheel of the C-Max?

I have a donut spare for my C-Max.  I have had to use it once on the right rear wheel after when the original full size tire had a hole blown in its sidewall after hitting some road debris.  The donut spare worked great on the rear wheel, but I don't know if the donut spare could be used on one of the front wheels.

  12. As far as I can tell, if you go to the Ford Owner website, under Service & Maintenance>Recalls, after entering your VIN, it will show you the recalls/service programs that are open for your vehicle. If the 15B04 Service Action isn't listed, then it is not "open"; which should mean it has been performed on your car.

I just went to the Ford Owner Website and entered my VIN.  One action that I know I have not had done comes up with a red circle with an ! inside of it.

Another action that I don't know if I have had done comes up with an orange circle with an ! inside of it.  Anyone know what the orange circle means?
