  1. I had my C Max in for the headliner recall repair last week.   I had noticed that the headliner edge was falling out around  the overhead console where the sunglasses fit.   I  have had my C Max a little over a year now and the headliner has just now showed this defect..   The service manager said that he would make sure that it would fit properly after the recall repair was performed.  Well it turns out that the headliner was trimmed to short around the overhead console, according to the dealer service manager, and will need to be replaced.   He said that he submitted photos of the defect to Ford for approval of the replaced headliner and would call when the headliner is in stock.  He also said it could take as much as two days to do the job.  He did say that he would provide a loaner for this repair.   So check around your overhead console and look for the headliner edge coming out from under the overhead console. The dealer will fix it.   My C Max is a July 2012 build.

  2. I have heard conflicting answers to this question.  Does premium grade contain 10% ethanol?  Some say it is in regular grade only some say it is in all grades.   I don't know.   If it does not, that may explain the improved performance.

  3. I have had my C Max since October 2012 and has 6000 miles to date.  Its build date is July 2012 and is a base SEL model.   I have had no prior problems other than the clock on occasion forgets the time or sometimes the stations would not show.  Yesterday however I lost complete control over the infotainment center.   I was last listening to AM radio when I came back to car for short trip the radio started normally on last AM station but now I could not control volume, change stations, media sources even though the screen appeared to make the changes.  The dash screen showed  audio off even though the radio continued to play and the on./off button had no affect.  Basically, the radio was stuck on Rush Limbach with the volume louder then normal.   Very annoying.

I took a chance and drove to my dealer to at least show them the problem and hope they could at least shut the radio off.   Here is the good part.   The service manager ( at Rod Baker Ford) came out observed the problem and said that he has seen this before and knew what to do.   He asked if I could wait a little bit and he would get it in.  About an hour or so later he advised me that he had "rebooted" the car by disconnecting the batteries and updated the software.   Beyond that I do not have any other details or paperwork other than looking into the system information file and found a new update file showing and observing that the system info screen shows

CCPU S/W version 4.27.12058_product.   I have no idea if that has anything to do with the infotainment module.

I have successfully re-paired my phone and re-established my settings and everything seems to be working as before.  Hopeing the clock will now remember the time better.  I did observe that the calender showed the correct date now.   I still don't understand what  or why this seemingly out of the blue failure happened.  It was simply the system worked then it did not work.  I guess it is the same answer when Microsoft works then it doesn't.

This has been my first time with this dealer's (Rod Baker Ford) service dept. and so far they have exceeded my expectation.  I could not have asked for better service or outcome.   :happy feet:

  4. I have also noticed improved mileage as the temperature is warmer.  I was able to maintain a ~39 mpg throughout the winter and now the average has increased to 42.  I have noticed frequent trips where the trip mileage would be in the high 40's-low 50's.  Common on spring/summer.  Love it when I have a trip mileage in the 50's :happy feet:

  5. I think you got lucky.  The standard warranty usually does not include road hazzards unless you get it extra.   Maybe Ford OEM made an agreement with Michelin for road hazzard coverage.  Did you know that our C Max tires are high speed performance tires (V rated to 149mph) which why they are so expensive.   So I guess the Max can go to track day with these tires with no problem.

  6. Yesterday I needed to navigate somewhere but don't have the Ford navigation system on my MFT.  I simply started my android cell phone navigation which is paired to MFT.  Pushed the bluetooth button on the MFT and received turn by turn directions thru the cars speakers while propping my phone on the MFT ledge in front of the screen.   Worked perfectly.  When I was on a longer stretch where I did not need guidance I switched MFT to USB music and when guidance was needed switch back to bluetooth for the directions from my phone.   I think this is much better than the Ford Nav system because it is up to date accurate and I did not have to pay extra.   Plus I can take it with me. :happy feet:

  7. ICE will run at start up if you have your heater on at start up. This is because the ICE will warm the radiator fluid to supply the demand for heat even if you don't need it.  If you shut off you heater at start up and you have some battery reserve, EV will run at any temperature until battery level depletes forcing ICE to run.  You will find that the radiator will not warm until the battery demands charging.   I originally thought that EV would only work at operating temperature.  That is not true.   EV will run at any temperature if you have no demand for radiator heat.  I realize you are in Florida but I would guess your morning temperature is still lower than the ICE operating temperature.   Try keeping the heater off at first start up and wait until ICE has reached operating temperature because of battery recharge before you turn on the heater.

My EV+ has finally learned where I work and has been switching to + both going home and to work lately.

  8. So is this a do it once and never need anything else for the life of the car product?  Are there maintenance applications needed annually?  I had bought a paint treatment (The Protector) deal from a dealer (not my C Max) and the fine print was I had to apply a "refresher" coat every 6 months that they supplied in order to maintain the warranty.   I ended up essentially waxing my car every 6 months anyway.

Is this the product you are referring to?

  9. On some of Ford's the intelligent access with push button start, the fob feature includes a remote start button on the fob.  I think the Escape is one of those models.  None of the C Max SEL models had the remote start feature listed as factory.  I believe remote start will be a dealer add on and not factory.   Just like the keyless entry number pad  that is unique to Ford is not available on the SEL or SE models from the factory.

  10. My Max struggled to get warm today on my 7 mile trip to work at 0 degrees fresh from the garage.  The trip mileage today was 32.  When I ran the defroster the water temp dipped below the first mark and that is with a foamed obstructed grill.  I can just image tonight's #'s on he home trip after sitting out all day in 10 degrees.   I hate winter.   On Tuesday when it was 63 degrees I was getting 47.  That is IL for you a place of extremes.  Now gas went to $3.75 today.   I guess we can't blame the gas jacking on summer blend yet.   :rant2:

  11. When I traded my 08 Sable for the C Max I removed the Weathertech floorliners from the Sable and re-installed the unused factory Sable mats and sold the WeatherTech mats on E Bay for $50 plus shipping.   They sold fast, got 50% of the purchase price back to buy the new ones for the C Max.  Good deal for everyone.
