  1. Considering a base (300A) SEL, how is the 6 speaker sound system working out for those of you have it ?

I think the sound from the base system is great. I did not feel the Sony system adds that much more sound to the car to justify the up charge. I hear and feel a nice base with good mid range and high range sounds. I play 95% of my music from mp3 files from the flash drive. I actually plugged my flash drive into a Sony equipped C Max for a test drive before deciding on which model I wanted and I didn't find it to be superior.

  2. While I would never suggest a C Max could beat your Camaro in a drag. It does have lively performance on the highway merge ramps and coming through some S turns. The real fun for me now is knowing I have more than doubled my MPG. Plus when it snows yournew C Max should handle way better than the Camaro. The motor sits right over the wheel wheels which should mean great traction.

  3.

Since I do not have Navigation with the SD card I wanted to know if I could use the slot other ways. My dealer told me that it was only for navigation but the owners manual and my touch made it seem available for music or photos. So I experimented today and placed a micro SD card (is what I have for my MP3 player) into a SD card adapter and plugged the adapter into my C Max SD card slot and removed the flash drive that I have in the USB port and turned the car on.

    Drum roll!!!!

It works perfectly. Once it indexed the files it began to play the music that was on the card. It is searchable with my touch and I expect voice commanded by sync. I am not sure but I think the SD slot is HC compatible which is the next test. So instead of using a flash drive or in addition to a flash drive we can use an SD card for music if you don't have the navigation system or aren't using it very much. Anyway I think this is very cool. Imagine a 32gb SDHC card with a 32gb flash drive filled with your favorite tunes at your command. Who needs Sirius with that kind of a jukebox?

  4. This is something I observed yesterday with mine. I have had mine nearly 2 weeks now and had a consistent average of 40-41 mpg mostly city. I would note my trip summary would consistently be in the high 40s to low 50's with short trips. The life time reading was staying however at 25.6 mpg. Yesterday I decided to reset the lifetime reading before I set out on a 20 mile trip. After a few miles into my trip the average mpg started to quickly increase from the 40-41 average to now showing 46 mpg average. So what does this mean - I am thinking the lifetime average was artificially causing lower mpg reading due to the very poor driving techniques at the dealer, car handlers etc. The 1000 mile break in is needed to overcome this initial poor average unless you simply reset the lifetime average. So my suggestion is check to see what your lifetime reading shows. If it is very low, reset it and drive. Granted my observations are very limited but this morning after my commute to work my lifetime average showed 46.5 mpg (up from 25.6) with the trip summary showing 47 mpg (up from 41). I think this reading is a more accurate reflection of what my C Max has been getting on average. I am hoping to do even better after the 1000 miles and improved driving technique. The funny thing here is the car I traded for the C Max would get 21 mpg.

I would like to know if you have the same outcome especially if you are not getting the mpg you were expecting. I know I am happier today about it.

  5. Fortunately I only live a few miles from the Weathertech factory store. Yesterday I decided to take the C Max for a drive and visit their store. I asked if I could test fit their Digital Fit mat. They were reluctant at first because they only sell these mats for specific cars because of the custom fitting and did not want to expose themselves to off label liability. Anyway, bottom line is the Digital Fit mat for the 2013 Ford Focus does NOT fit correctly in the C Max. The fastening snaps do not align. They said that they have been getting many inquires this past month for their mats and expect production for the Digital Fit mat in the near future. My name was place on a contact list in which they would email me when they become available. I would guess the more inquiries they receive the faster they will start production. So get on the contact list if you want the Weathertech Digital Fit mats in your C Max. I know I do!

  6. This is probably nothing to do with your quirky operation you posted here but I discovered a feature that I would think is abnormal if I did not know it was a normal operations feature on the C Max. The owners manual talks about a feature called "hill start assist" (pg 212). Basically, a sensor activates when stopped on a slope and delays the brake release (2-3 sec) until engine rev is detected and automatically releases the brakes. The purpose is to prevent vehicle roll on while transitioning from brakes to gas pedal. This feature sounds cool if you live in hilly areas. Also though a new sensor to go bad.

Another cool feature I found is "grade assist". The little button on the side of the shift selector. That is on pg 209 in the owners manual. It functions to charge the battery and speed control while driving on a downgrade. Basically it is engine braking. Cool stuff.

  7. Sorry to hear about your accident. Similarly, I picked up my C Max last Saturday and while driving home from the dealership I barely missed hitting a large buck that darted out on a busy street. When I say barely it was less than a car length going 40mph. Hopefully nobody was injuried and your C Max will be as good as new.

  8. I normally like the sun/moon roof and have had them on most of my previous cars. Unfortunately, the C Max pan roof just did not make any sense to me. The thin cloth closure has no insulation value for winter or summer so I would guess more heat/cool demand required to keep the car comfortable which would affect mileage. Since it can't be opened what is the point besides weakening the roof?

  9. Does anyone know if the front row floor mats are dimensionally the same in the 2013 Ford Focus and the C Max. The reason I ask is I would like to put the Weathertech digitalfit floor mats in my C Max. Weathertech however does not make them for the C Max. They do however make them for the Focus. Looking at the pictures they look the same and since the C Max is based on the Focus platform I am hoping that the two floor mats are dimensionally the same. Thanks

  10. I have been exploring the features on my new C Max. Certainly the Sync system is feature rich. One of the features that I have found is the Sync "Services" that comes complimentary with the C Max for 3 years. One of the options I found is a traffic alert that I prearrange on the Sync my ride website that basically tells sync to send me a traffic alert thru my paired cellphone anywhere along my route from home to work between the hours of 7am to 9am on Monday Wednesday and Friday (days I drive to work). While I mostly never have traffic problems on the way to work sometimes if an accident occurs gridlock follows. Apparently I will receive a message thru Sync of a traffic incident before I get there. Since I have only arranged this on Monday nothing has occurred yet. Certainly the other way to use it is to call Sync services by the command "Services" to get the same info wherever I am but this option I thought was very cool to have an ongoing prearranged alert system. All I have to do is remember to turn the cell phone on in the morning.

I am signed up for a training class offered at my local dealer to show me more features to Sync this coming Thursday. I hope this will help me better utilize my car's features.

  11. Well I picked up my C Max SEL Saturday. Of course, it was raining all weekend so now it is very dirty. One of the benefits of it raining all weekend was trying out the auto (rain sensing) wiper system. I have never had this feature before but I have found I really like it. Basically it is a setting you turn on and from there the system handles the wipers automatically when it senses water on the windshield. The cool part is you can adjust the sensitivity of the rain sensor plus the system will automatically vary the speed of the wiper based on how heavy the rainfall. Also if a oncoming car hits you with a big splash of water the wiper immediately speeds up to handle the splash and then slows down afterwards to whatever speed it needs to keep the windshield clear. Since it rained all weekend I found out how well this systems works. Perfectly! I am glad I have this feature. The wiper system is integrated with the auto lights system so when the wipers are needed in daylight hours it also turns the headlights on automatically. So you basically set it and forget it. Very Cool!

  12. Hi everyone,

I am happy to find a forum for the C Max Hybrid. I will be picking mine up tomorrow. I found a local dealer in Plainfield, IL that was great to work with. Anyway, I decided on a base model SEL in Silver Ingot paint and black interior. I test drove several brands and models before deciding on the C Max. Aside from the great gas mileage the C Max was by far the smoothest, quietest and well appointed of the bunch. I can't wait to get some road trip miles on.
