  1. Nah sorry, no more photos. I did take some measurements though and the wing mirrors and front and rear bumpers are the same dimensions as ours. I found a primed front end online, but no grille as of yet. Also found the top cover and turn signal light housings from the mirrors online but I'm not sure there's much need for that. I wonder if switching out my front end will invalidate the warranty lol Looks more aerodynamical than ours and with less of a footprint on the fogs.

Given the new EPA figures and the additional $475 check Fedex just dropped off, it makes you wonder why Ford Europe and Ford US don't talk to each other more. I managed the same mpg driving like an idiot with the AC on for the sake of it in my 1.0l ecoboost that I get here hypermiling. Oh well.

On the flipside, it did cost me $107.34 to fill her up before I dropped her off with Avis :)

  2. Am wondering if anyone has had to remove the headrest retainers the headrests slide into, and if so, how? Also, how to remove those buttons on the side of the rear seat headrests?

I got a full set of OEM medium stone leather covers for the C-Max from eBay for quite a bargain, but am flummoxed with these parts.

Hopefully there are retainer clips further down, but have had no joy so far finding them. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

When I get these installed, I'll post up some pics and procedures in the modification forum as I'm sure a few of us will have to replace a cover at some point. Thanks!

  3. I was just thinking the same thing.. I've upgraded a lot of OEM parts and basically have an SES now less the ambient lights, all for less than a grand so far. This would top it all off. I see the accessory remote one but not that interested in that tbh. Were you successful? Am assuming OEM parts could be bought but finding stuff on their parts site is haphazard at best.

  4. Just ending a trip to my original home over the pond, and here's my 2014 C-Max rental.

MFT doesn't exist here - sync only. Stick shift and a button for the parking brake which was a pain.

I love the look of the front grille and the rear reflectors under the bumper and has a built in scuff protector. And no, it doesn't have the mods the 2014 hybrid has unfortunately - no longer hood seals, no rear window deflectors, and no underbody wheel deflector things. Mpg btw was about 49 in US money.

Was a great drive and helped me get over missing mine :/ No 12v issues btw ;)

If anyone else has driven an overseas C-Max, and has thoughts about them vs. ours, maybe this can be a discussion?

  5. From my own experience driving through rain and seeing the accessory gauge fill up pretty much immediately, indicating some excessive draw on the 12v, and the scangauge showing a lower than usual 12v level than usual, and looking at the water pump connectors themselves, I can pretty safely assume it's that. Would suggest anyone with an SE with issues look at the accessory level on the dash after rain and see what happens. I added the Ford perimeter alarm on mine and just looked and the light ain't flashing, so guess what I'll be doing again tomorrow.. Didn't even drive today but it's been humid and was a pretty bad downpour earlier. Love this car, but am getting tired of all the visits to the dealership and drop in lifetime mpg that comes with it. The car now sees as that place an EV+ location and has for months.. Grr.

  8. That pump connector is popping up a lot.  My dead battery could easily have been after driving through rain or slush - and with road chemicals to-boot.  Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the pump and connector?  I'm wondering if there is an On/Off, or perhaps a variable speed signal, on one of the wires.  Just a little bit of conductivity might send the pump to full speed without the fault having to carry any significant current.  There might, indeed, be nothing wrong with the pump.

Have a great trip - my wife and I love it over there!  But why not try a B-Max?  Boy would I love to have an Energi version of that neat little car.

Cheers! Yeah I was thinking about the B-Max or even the Grand for the slidy doors. Their new C-Max seems so much like ours though, so I'm looking to spend a little time looking for things I like about it that we don't have, get part numbers and see about ordering some stuff. Maybe they have the rear window air deflectors  :spend:

Anyhow, here you go with the diagrams and stuff!

  9. Add me to the list.

Have some interesting findings and I know it's my water pump connectors shorting out due to water and corrosion as I've seen them. Anyway, scangauge shows my 12v battery usually running around 14.2v when driving - starts around 13v then kicks up pretty quickly to 14.2v. A couple of weeks ago, after rain, I found it dead the next morning. Called Ford and they came out and jumped it. Worked the next morning. Ordered a cheapish jump starter from Amazon (I'll edit with a link later) just in case. Rain last week and dead 3 days in a row. Now here's what I found interesting when driving during and after rain and after a jump - the accessory my view was through the roof in battery consumption over halfway, and my 12v was stuck around 12.5v. Self-diagnosis - somethings shorting out. Looked at the water pump connectors and covered in water and a bit rusty. Took it in to the dealer - pump is okay and they did the latest safety restraint recall. Plan to take it into another dealer and called Ford.

IMO, the fix is to replace the water pump. Not sure how else we can get this corrected. Btw - that drain on the accessory from the short kills FE. It's past that level AC is at for the first few mins.

As an aside - am off to my other country England next week for a week and have a C-Max titanium ready - lighted door sills and equivalent FE from a little 1.0l engine. Their MFT screens suck in comparison but I'll be sure to post up some photos. As I haven't been in 3 years, a familiar car with the steering wheel on the wrong side and a stick shift should be a laugh.

  10. Has anyone actually completed this install? I'd love to know more about which wires are which under the hood.

I just finished what I could on my SE, and it's not great news. Bought the OEM grilles, lamps and had a tinker around. Didn't buy the switch because I already know that won't work as it just sends a signal to the BCM. Anyhow, there's no fog harness on the SE. At least not mine. The wiring diagram from my service DVD (thanks ebay) has the harness going from the driver's side to the passenger side along the front, then up to the BCM pins 18 and 19. 18 and 19 are not connected on mine. There is a 15A fuse in F75 though, which is nice. The harness is 15K867 if it was there. The BCM in question is C2280D directly above fuses F74 and F82 in the box under the glove box (does anyone actually have gloves in there?)

So anyway, I now have fog lamps and grilles on my SE, but not much else. Taped off the H11s and will look now for a harness and mess about with this again next weekend. Want to see if there's a way to get a harness up to a remote switch and see some online that support 55w x2. There are some nice harnesses that do work with ours listed at around $80 on ebay. I asked and they do work with the C-Max. Will post a link up in a bit.

Just as an FYI, screwing in the lamps is a royal pain in the ass on the driver's side. Only about 3" clearance back from the hex screw. The pass side isn't much better as the washer fluid reservoir gets in the way. Also, despite there being no rain in days here, those connectors in the driver's side were covered in water. May explain my dead 12V a couple of weeks back, so dried them and taped them off a bit.

    Parts were from fdmotorparts.com.

    $133.31 lamps and screws

    $128.28 grilles

and a remote that I'm not sure about:

I'll post up some pics later. Am done and need a bath..

  11. May be I'm slow... but those diagrams taught me nothing about removing the light from the hatch itself. The manual instructs to push those two clips in. I'm going to have find my own tricks. Thanks for the diagrams. It will help those who are trying to take the panel off.

Were you successful in getting the third brake light out? I upgraded all my interior and license plate lights with LEDs and planned to do the same with this too, but what to do with the black plastic clips through those small holes is anyone's idea.

  12. kc1174,

I think I'm going to do this. What brand of spray did you use? I have some, but it really smells and would like to try some different stuff. I'm tired of my car sounding like an old leather saddle.

Here's what I ordered - still working well but have to do it maybe once a month or so. I find spraying it on a microfiber towel works and then rub it between the parts until the creaks and squeaks stop. The straw thing on this is kind of useless but I still kept it. Hope this helps!

P.s. it does smell a bit but it goes away very quickly.

  13. The weather has started to cool down, so I can try running some tanks without the air conditioner. It surely makes a big difference.

    Final Numbers:

    700.4 Miles

    56.9 MPG

    12.30 Gallons

This tank was with about 25 percent (more than the first quarter of a tank, per the gauge) with air conditioner use. So, I could have done even better. Let's see what happens when full winter conditions (the Miami version) set in.

Excellent! I was on track for a similar tank too, but had to take mine into the dealer to fix some more trim. Trip average mpg dropped 4.6mpg, so am looking at 650 or so. Did tell them not to run it, but having a dashcam in there, I was able to see what they did live over wifi... still - best recorded tank, but feel I could have broken 700 :/ Anyone find that keeping that ICE sweet spot is impossible when driving over rough terrain? Roads here are terrible - and the late brakers here too.. grr. Cup half full though with a 650 tank :)

    Good job Scuba!

    Kevin

  14. Wow, what great millage you guys are getting. Can't wait till mine is delivered. Do you give driving lessons??

This review definitely helped me! AC takes some power from the hybrid battery, but don't take it to the extreme like I did in mine today - 86° out and drove home 26 miles and got 65mpg - and a splitting headache and heatstoke :)

Would help if I posted the link..

  15.

Followed kc1174 instructions with the exception that SEL models have different voltage presence at these fuse taps.

I used Hemostats to remove and insert the fuses, very difficult location to work in. Confirmed Powermagic Pro shutdown when voltage dips below my programmed 12v level.

There is a deadspot between the glovebox and the trim panel I used to route Powermagic Pro control box wiring.

Connect the Valentine1 and Powermagic Pro ground wires by ring lug to the chasis ground.

Cool! Which fuses #'s did you use for ACC and live? I ordered the 2013 Ford service/wiring DVD off eBay to get a better idea of the electronics on the Max.

Btw - about an hour ago, someone sideswiped me. No damage thank god - just hit the offside mirror which flipped in, but got the usual "you were speeding" and "your lights weren't on" and "I had my turn signal on" bs - then showed him the dashcam, so he shut up.. Was doing 19mph, my lights were on, he didn't indicate, and he pulled over a solid white line. It paid for itself right there.

Some profanity was used, so don't think I'll be posting it up anytime soon.

You think TX drivers are bad (and they are - saw your YouTube videos) but FL is close!

  16. I have a CMAX Energi with no panoramic roof as well. I followed your write-up on which fuses to use. I was curious though whether on your green light stays on regardless of whether the switch is turned to on or off? Also, was curious whether it would be a problem in the difference with it being an energi vs a hybrid in the installation.

Hey - sorry seems my forum emails have been going to junk mail.. on the green light being on, that's fine. The power magic (when the switch is set to on) cuts out when the timer or the 12V battery drops below the thresholds set on the jumpers. When set to off, it cuts out when the 12V battery drops below the threshold set on the jumpers.

On the fuses for the Energi, I'm assuming it's the same as either mine (SE) or in the post above me (SEL). Best advice is to wire it up via the SEL fuses, plug your cell into the lighter socket, lock up the car and come back say 20 mins later and see if the phone is still charging. If it is - you hit the correct live fuse and all is well.

The trick to this was really to try various options via the fuse guide in the manual until one works :)

  17. Cheers Paul!

This is my first full tank without needing AC, and with the gaspods, but it's going well so far.

I'll be interested to see how winter driving miles are this year vs. last, given the FE update, our cars having more miles and us being more used to the C-Max's ways. Thinking of a move to Colorado next year, so will be interesting to see.

A little off topic but doesn't deserve it's own thread or a discussion - call it an interlude. An insurance ad where a Prius owner's cart rolls towards a C-Max (apparently towards the huge baby, but I think it was aimed for the Max). First ad I've seen with C-Maxes since Ford's cartoon :)

  18. It looks like members have given up on better MPG's for the season. I'm making an another trip to Phoenix in a couple of weeks and we will see how that goes. :)

    Paul

Ah no, I'm on my way to my first 700 here with this current tank. Finally the weather is cooperating here in FL :) Currently 7.92 gallons and 463 miles on the trip.

    Kevin

  19. +1 Had a slight tailwind and a very smooth road when I saw this on Eco-cruise

Nice! Yeah I can't seem to get my eco-cruise to stop dropping into EV...

Always wondered - I know the intention is to get as many miles on a full tank, but given the weight of a full tank, I feel like seeing if I can break 350 or 400 on 6.75 gallons... Nah, maybe not :)
