Hopefully not the transmission😐

It's a hit and miss case if you get this disease...not only the 2013 - 2014 models anymore
-
I would think so too...never heard of a C-max having engine failure but plenty of trans issues

Grill Covers solve this problem and Ideal WT is 210-220*F for the best gas mileage.

I don't think grill covers will do anything. The thermostat will not even open the cycle to the radiator before the temperature gets too hot. Besides, there are automatic grill shutters behind the grill that should be closed anyways in this low temps. Cars get smarter all the time ?

I would like to know why some fail and some not...regardless of year.

you can look through the front radiator grille to see if they're open. Not sure how exactly your situation is (my shutters are broken from hitting something...so they are hanging loose). You could just try to open them by hand. There is a small electric motor in the center that moves the shutters , you can try to disconnect the cable and see if the check engine light goes away. But make sure the shutters are in the open position after.

Maybe the reservoir Cap is defect? Should not let the pressure get so high that the tank pops. Did you replace the Cap as well?
-
Not sure what it is, but that does not sound good

Isn't it risky to inflate the tire to the max pressure it can handle? I mean...once you drive it on the freeway in the summer...the pressure will most likely go over the maximum it can handle. Just wondering. I stick with the Car sticker recommendation... on my Cmax it is 40psi (2014 model) and I feel that's already pretty hard.

There are 2 covers..one is right in the front under the bumper (see picture above) and the other one is larger and under the engine between the front wheels

I have to add some coolant to the ICE like once a year because it gets below the MIN mark. Every time I add, I see some coolant leaking on the floor and I don't know where it comes from. I didn't spill any and only added to get it up to the MIN mark again. Is this by design so you don't accidently overfill it? Anybody else experienced this?
The car is not overheating and I don't see any leaks on the floor other than when I add.?
Just found out that the coolant reservoir has an overflow tube somewhere by the cap. I must have accidently pointed the funnel in that direction while filling up the reservoir, hence the spilling of coolant. Guess because of the bad location of the reservoir, it's hard to get the funnel into a straight position while filling.

Extra grill shutters are not necessary since the coolant flows only through the radiator once the engine reaches a certain temperature. So if you drive in really cold weather the thermostat won't open the flow through the radiator cycle anyways. Coasting downhills uses more gas than leaving the car in drive...while coasting, your engine idles and uses gas....when you leave it in gear, the engine doesn't use any gas by design. Just google it for details.

I thought you could force the ICE to run by pressing (flooring?) the accelerator while parked.
Yes you can, but it will go only up to 2000 rpm as far as I know

Hi, it's a 2014 SEL and has 150 k miles now, but the leak was noticeable already for many years. I changed the coolant and transmission fluid recently myself. I just don't understand how it get's out since there is no high pressure in the inverter coolant system and I never overfilled it. I never saw the level all the way to the top after a long drive when it should be really hot
-
good idea, i will try that

Why did you disconnect the 12v battery? I'm surprised you can drive it like that...I thought you will need the 12v battery in order to start the car
-
looks like the coolant drain plug is leaking or not tight enough. I would try to tighten it and see if it stops leaking, also check the coolant reservoir to make sure it's not below the MIN mark and add if necessary.

I wouldn't stress out about it too much. We have a 2014 SEL made 03/2014 and it has now 175k miles with original transmission. I've changed the fluid at 150k miles. I've heard that it could happen to every year...not just the 2013 and 14 models. Not sure what the real reason for the bearing failure is. Maybe some "Monday" models😁or too low on trans fluid for some reason. Mine was actually a little low on fluid, but still No problems.
