  1. Why do you assume everyone else can?

My issue is weak passords, "weak" as in they don't last the session. I open a few threads and I'm no longer logged in to any of them. Previously open threads no longer allow me to reply. My base page (New Content) requires an active password to open, yet after opening a few new threads, I'm no longer logged in on any thread, includinge New Content!

It's an inability to recognize actions taken by logged-in members. Failure to forward credentials from one web page to another on the same site. How is that a local issue?

This sounds like it might be a cookie issue. Do you have cookies turned off for the forum website?

  2. This would explain why my car thought it was taking back roads when I was on the expressway this morning... It was a little spooky as I have 2 routes to work, highway and surface. I was driving on one, but the car was on the other.

Turns out GPS was OFF - GPS with a red X - so the car really was lost. I removed and reinserted the SD card and the resulting reset brought GPS back up. Have others seen the GPS turn off? I never noticed it before!

    Have fun,

    Frank

I'm curious where you saw the icon/symbol for the GPS with the red X. Not seen this before. Since you re-set the SD card, do you think that had lost it's connection?

  3. Overall, I've been quite pleased with the navigation system, and this is coming from someone who's never bought a car with factory navigation before, nor seen a system I'm able to understand why anyone would pay money for, ever. I used to opt for Garmin units, years ago, but have been using my phone recently.

That said, I knew I wanted the My Ford Touch 8" center screen, navigation or not. I just loved that stereo. I also thought the button design if you opted against MFT was ugly, personally. And while MFT actually is available without navigation, it's extremely hard to find, and really not a whole lot cheaper. So I said, sure, get the nav.

I'm glad I did. I never use my phone for nav anymore. I do however, annoyingly, have to use my phone to learn street addresses. Trying to use voice recognition to recognize POI names is extremely difficult, often impossible. I have found it does work pretty well with destinations that have names comprised of dictionary words, like American Furniture Warehouse, or Chart House, for example. But anything which is a proper name, and/or a confusing order of words (is it "The Denver Museum of Natural History and Science" or "The History and Science Museum of Denver", for example) the car just can NOT understand. So, basically any time I need to search for a POI, I rarely attempt even speaking the name anymore. I just pull over, whip out my phone, search for the address, then pull the voice command stalk and say, "Navigation, Destination, Address". It's much faster, and usually works quite well at that point.

Once underway, I've found the directions provided are accurate and efficient. I particularly like that the voice can be eliminated, so instead of hearing "Turn right in whatever feet, Turn right in a few more feet, Turn right now," I just hear the tones. The tones are so much nicer. I highly recommend changing that setting ASAP. The system will beep once when you're a little bit from your turn, beep once more when you're close to your turn, and beep twice when you should be turning now. The tones can also be muted entirely, if you'd prefer, you can do that too. Just be sure to put the nav screen on the mini display to the right of the speedometer, or else you're likely to miss your turn, since there will be no audible reminder.

All in all, I think the nav package has a lot of really nice features, so I'm really glad we got it, and I would definitely recommend it. If nothing else, I'm told it'll increase the resale value of the car. I don't know if that's true or just something the salesman said, but it seems believable enough.

I would have to agree with you, CarpeNivem. I think you summed it up quite well. I find that I use the navigation much MORE than I expected to, and for the most part, works really well. Using a smartphone with Ford Destinations app works for getting an address into the SYNC system quickly at startup. And, voice recognition of POI names (at least while driving) usually sucks.

  4. Yes, you can leave it on between hills and while driving in areas with hills. Just don't leave it on when you driving flat areas.

OK. Thanks. Do you happen to know the rationale (or where I could find it) for *not* leaving it on? I suppose common sense would say that if it could be left on all the time, they would have just built it that way...

  5. I use it all the time going down hills for regenerating the battery.  I always shut it off after as way back when someone gave the rationale for turning it off when not using it for the designed purpose.  I've searched and can't find the cited reference when the discussion took place many months ago. There was a thread about this when a couple of us forgot and left it on after going down the hills.  I'll keep looking.

DHA is designed to keep the vehicle at a set speed. It will regen the battery, but after the battery is full it will activate the ICE in

fuel cut mode to maintain downhill speeds. I use it with my Energi and only had the ICE spin in fuel cut mode 1 time when the HVB was full.

I also use it in conjunction with my cruise control. I turn on the DHA, set the speed and activate the CC. It's a great way to run the back roads without doing anything more than steering the car ;)

Thank you both, drdiesel1 and Laurel. I don't think I've had the ICE spin up, probably because I haven't been on any really significant hills that filled the battery yet.

I've used several search terms to try to find if there's a problem with leaving it on in between downhills, but it doesn't seem to have been discussed very much. Maybe should turn it off each time until I can determine if there's a problem with leaving it on.

  6. I'm wondering if anyone has any more insights into this Downhill Assist mode (the switch on the side of the shifter)? In southeast Wisconsin, the hills are quite small, but I find that it can create a significant amount of regen to the battery. I also tend to leave it on much of the time, and it does not seem to hamper FE any. What do other people think? I don't see it being discussed much.

  7. We picked up a 2013 Tuxedo Black C-MAX SE last night.  Pretty excited about it.  Our 2005 Honda Odyssey has 200k miles on it and only got around 16-17mpg city so we wanted to get my wife something that got better mileage and save the Odyssey for trips where we take more than 4 people.  She was all set on the Lexus ES300h but decided that the cost was just too much.  We then started searching for less expensive options and looked at the standard Focus, the C-MAX, the Prius line, and the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.

We ended up picking the C-MAX as we're very comfortable with Ford vehicles and it fit our family perfectly.  It larger than my 2012 Fiesta so family trips should be more comfortable.  I don't care for the Prius styling and the Sonata Hybrid just didn't feel right.  My wife didn't care for the Focus so C-MAX it was.  Looking forward to getting some trips on it and see how it does.  It's significantly larger in the passenger compartment than the Fiesta so the kids love it.  Hopefully I'll be able to pick up some good tips on it from the forum!

Congratulations on your new C-Max! Hope you like yours as much as I do mine. It's a really comfortable car that you can have a lot of fun in while learning to save more gas and emissions.

  8. Hello, I just covered up the front grill with the covers made by PTJones.  He has some excellent data on gas savings and expected coolant temperatures.  I was wondering if there is any effect on the inverter cooling system.  In other words, assuming that the normal coolant temp is maintained where is should be  (about 205), is there any deleterious effect on the inverter and the inverter cooling system.  What temperature should that be at and does the scan gauge measure it?  Thanks

This is a really good question, Robodog61. Maybe PTJones will see it (bump) and might have some thoughts about how the grille covers can affect the inverter radiator cooling of the electrical components.

  9. Approaching 4000 miles and have taken in my Hybrid for the headliner recall, the PCM update and the handsfree liftgate fix. I did the MFT 3.6.2 (was it?) myself. I now have requested grille covers from ptjones, since the temps (and my mileage) are dropping quickly here in Wisconsin (already!?). All-in-all, I'd definitely say, "no problems, mon" as there have been no other issues on this car. I'm VERY happy!

  10. The lost space in the back along with the no longer flat floor when you fold the seats down can be a deal breaker for some. Ironically for me I need to take my snow blower in to be fixed. I probably should have done that first. Oh well, maybe it will fit.

Hahaha. Probably won't. I had to lay mine over on it's side to get it into my hybrid. Very little room to spare above. Even with the handle folded, it wouldn't go in upright. I would really like to upgrade to the Energi, but I guess I don't want to give up that valuable cargo space!

  11. It would make financial sense for Ford to do the credit card thing based on mileage.  I have had my C-Max almost 9 months and only have 6,000 kilometers (3600 miles) on it.  They wouldn't owe me much.  There probably aren't too many like me but who knows?

I guess you have me beat; Had mine since 3/7/13 (about 5 1/2 months) and today have only 2850 miles. You are really low miles!

  12. Well, I won't refuse the check, but I'll say that I am so happy with this car. I got it in March of '13, built on 1/4/13. Just got done with the PCM update today. MFT has gone from 3.1.3 to 3.5.1 and yesterday to 3.6.2. My lifetime mileage is 48.0 before the update, so if I can get that up to 50, I'd be in heaven. I have also not had any problems from SYNC or MFT or nav. This is a GREAT car!

  13. I got the 3.5 update and the liftgate fix several weeks ago, but did not notice any difference in the feel of the car. It seems if they are applying the new tweaks to the powertrain, they would tell you guys. I wonder what it is? Oh, yeah, wamba2000, my mileage dropped almost a full MPG (well maybe 0.7 or so...) while getting the 3.5 update.
