  1. Oh, I couldn't agree more. Not sure I ever got a snotty look but I could sure imagine them - "there goes another hybrid" - 6 miles DOWN the mountain at 62 mph to keep the ICE off. Now its roll right up to the limit and still charge the battery all the way down!. :skateboard: Gotta love that. :) Hadn't thought about birthdays but that's right - one year olds :play: are coming up. Is that build date or delivery/purchase date? And who has the oldest car anyway?
  2. "The Enterprise" received it's MPG "transfusion" on August 5th and here is the first result after 900 miles. I must say I am quite pleased! My wife reset the AVG MPG at the dealer when the upgrade was done and it is now at 49.0 (lifetime has gone from 46.7 to 46.9). For the first 400 miles or so the AVG MPG was above 50 which was a thrill to see. General observations are as others have described - seems to work the battery harder, charges faster, engine goes to higher RPM and, of course, EV at the higher speeds! It is quite amazing how often EV cuts in with Eco CC at 65 mph on rolling hills. AC is still great (mostly runs at 250 watts as before) but the abrupt increase in air temperature when adjusting above about 76F is now gone. To be picky, I actually preferred the way the engine operated before, but differences are very slight and I'm not about to complain about a 6% increase in MPG! Below is my pump based cumulative MPG average with the average restarting after the upgrade (last point). The change is rather dramatic - we'll see how it looks a few weeks "down the road". BTW, EV miles had averaged 34.9% before the upgrade and is now 41.7% since - overall similar driving.
  3. From the album: SS

Cumulative average MPG based on pump gallons with odometer correction. Average restarted after FE upgrade. Last point is after upgrade.
  4. I bet it was, but... Engineers rush in where Aliens fear to tread, And if they dare to go there, the nerds will knock them dead! Now just stay away from Austin, TX! :gaah: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9241236/Spoofed_Fake_GPS_signals_lead_yacht_astray
  5. We'll be waiting with bated breath... :waiting:
  6. Only that the left rear door closes a bit harder than the others. Dealer is going to look at it when they do the FE upgrade. Rear hatch as well but that may be normal.
  7. May or may not work. After my wife takes the car in for it's first oil change I get an email from our salesman that ends; "... let her drive sometimes. Please!" Seems she had mentioned how much I liked to hog the drivers seat! :shift:
  8. "Spouses"...? Did you mean "Husbands are trainable"? :lol2: Maybee Ford just needs to update the little message when you turn off the car to say: Thanks For Driving A Hybrid...but... YOU MILEAGE STINKS!
  9. Only 33 years here but agree with the consensus - drop the subject. You've heard about "picking your battles"? Guess what. This one's not even on the list of choices! Plus, look at the bright side. If it wasn't a C-Max, it would be low 20s!
  10. What it means, in part at least. is that you can plug your Android smartphone into the OBDII port under the dash (with special adapter) and programmers can write all sorts of apps to read data from the car and do crazy things with it. I suspect you won't believe what will be available a year from now. Here is a list of some data that should be available. No doubt there will be a lot more for the C-Max but I haven't found a complete list yet. steering_wheel_angle -600 to +600 degrees torque_at_transmission -500 to 1500 Nm engine_speed 0 to 16382 RPM vehicle_speed 0 to 655 km/h (this will be positive even if going in reverse as it's not a velocity, although you can use the gear status to figure out direction) accelerator_pedal_position 0 to 100% parking_brake_status brake_pedal_status transmission_gear_position States: first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, reverse, neutral odometer 0 to 16777214.000 km, with about .2m resolution ignition_status States: off, accessory, run, start fuel_level 0 - 100% fuel_consumed_since_restart 0 - 4294967295.0 L (this goes to 0 every time the vehicle restarts, like a trip meter) door_status driver, passenger, rear_left, rear_right headlamp_status high_beam_status windshield_wiper_status latitude -89.0 to 89.0 degrees with standard GPS accuracy longitude -179.0 to 179.0 degrees with standard GPS accuracy button_event left, right, up, down, ok. idle, pressed, released, held_short, held_long, stuck List is summarized from http://openxcplatform.com/vehicle-interface/output-format.html Interesting to note that the odometer could go to over 10 million miles! :shift:
  11. Latin name is Cmaximus Carpasinus. Gave its life killing and MFT attack alien. So long little bug... :salute:
  12. Sounds like good news - hope your problems are soon over! As you well know, these cars are too much fun to be spoiled with problems.
  13. Yes, I would like to ask questions too but, IMHO, I'm not sure it would be in Ford's, or even our, best interests to have an engineer answering the many questions we would have (and I'm not going to hold my breath waiting). Why? Legal issues have been mentioned but also the great complexity of a car like the C-Max. So many technical questions can only be answered with "that depends". There are so many interacting issues that it can be hard to come back with an answer that's not over-simplified, confusing, just leads to more questions or gives away trade secrets. But it would be nice... and I'm not trying to argue with other's opinions. I think I would rather Ford spend its time on bringing a hybrid B-Max to the US!
  14. Called my dealer and they said they just received the update today - take about one hour to do. Scheduled the first date available - August 5th! Yeehaa - 85 mph on electric power! :shift:
  15. They also come on the SE with the Winter package - they're called "approach lights".
  16. I would think not if done properly. In fact it could help reduce moisture forming on the windshield after turning defrost back off because the glass is now so cold. It has long been a :airquote: pet peeve of mine that defrost mode on newer cars forces AC on even when not needed. Then when you turn it off the glass is so cold it fogs right up again. It becomes a vicious cycle. In colder weather a bit of heat gives good dry air without the compressor. :)
  17. For mine, ETIS Vehicle Summary says: Outstanding Field Service Actions 13B07 - POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) CALIBRATION This text is in a pink box on the left side of the screen. I'm calling the dealer tomorrow.
  18. If you want them, the signs should say: 47 EPA (or more) Rated Vehicles Only! :stirpot: To me, the signs are there just to boost a "Green" image. We don't need more ordinances. I too thought this topic was about saving fuel while parking, and since it didn't sound like you could save very much, I ignored it for a while. However, I like the ideas of pull-through and shade. Which reminds me of a shady space at work which once was "claimed" by a certain employee. Others who parked there were likely to "hear about it". Hence the limerick: There once was a parking space fair, With a maple to hide the sun's glare. And its great popularity, Showed with great clarity. Why we should all want to share!
  19. Hey, so that big round ring outside the arrows is a circular bar-graph showing 0 to 100%? I never noticed that. Hang around you guys and you can learn something new everyday!
  20. What's all this "one kick", "two kick" stuff anyhow? Mine opens with zero kicks! (Hey, easy with the rotten tomatoes - prefer green ones - they fry better!) I know I don't belong in this thread but I do have a bit of a story. When we first got the car my son asked,, about the kick-to-open lift gate and was  to find it missing (SS didn't want to :spend: ). Fast forward to a week ago when five of us were packing for the beach :shift: :play: . He walks up with arms loaded and proceeds to :stirpot: about how it won't open! Now I'm starting to have second thoughts - but over closing, not opening. Getting tired of jumping in, buckling up and then seeing the message, "Lift gate Open".
  21. And will that blow all the leaves off the kudzu??? I bet the "big leaf" will be gone for sure!
  22. Lucky me, just did another trip this past weekend without knowing about this topic! So here's my entry. Conditions were: - A true "return to same point" (gas station) loop - 87 E0 - Essentially all highway (about 70% 55 mph, 20% 65 mph, 10% 60 mph) - Just me and maybe 50 pounds of stuff - Light AC (300 watts on climate graph) a majority of the time - Heavy rain for 20 miles or so but that was offset by slower speed "Yes Virginia", there is a "47 MPG Car"! (But maybe not at the north pole!)

  24. Quite sure you are right about the battery limiting the available current (and hence the power). A given battery not only has a kw-hour rating but also a maximum instantaneous power and current rating that scales with the kWh rating. The Energi battery is 7.6 kWh versus 1.4 so it can, I would expect, put out at least 5 times the power. Its not just an issue of how fast it gets drained. With 5 times the power you can go faster and accelerate faster, not just go further. The inverter is no doubt smaller too by the same ratio (saving cost).
