  1. Did you have the alignment checked? I do cross rotate my tires to get 80k+ miles on them and cut down on the noise issue. :)

    Paul

I did not have the alignment checked.  Maybe a rotate and alignment would have helped.  I did rotate the tires every oil change, so they were well rotated.  New tires are still very quiet so I'm glad I made the change.  Considering the thread depth was 3/32, they were due to be changed.

  2. My Cmax has had the red power assist light come on twice.  Both times I have been able to reset by turning off the ignition and turning it back on.  I'm afraid the rack is about to go out and cost $1800 to replace.

Any updates on this?  Anyone have Ford cover a 2013 Cmax under warranty?

    Thanks for the info!

  3. Had new tires put on at 50k miles.  Rear "stock" tires were definitely roaring before they were changed and got worse every day.  Replaced at 3/32 so it was time.  New Michelin Premier A/S are much quieter, almost silent, and have gotten about the same gas mileage.

Try rotating the tires and see if that helps.  Could also be a bearing but 15K miles seems low for a bad bearing.  A tire could get a chunk in though, and the rear seems to transmit road noise into the cabin much more "efficiently".  LOL

  4. Just replaced mine this month.   Was dropping to about 11.7 volts after two days of non-use.  Bought it Feb 2013, so after almost 6 years, was probably time for a new one.

I will say in 2014 I let the battery die.  Dead as a doornail.  I think I got out of it but left it "on" because the next day it was dead as hell.  It was so dead I couldn't even charge it through the "under the hood" terminals.  It kept trying to start up all systems while I was trying it, since the car was still in the "on" mode.  Still too dead to unlock the back hatch, so I had to crawl through the car and unhook the battery terminals and then charge the battery.  I figured after that drain the battery would be useless but managed to run it for another 5 years.  I do put it on trickle charge when out of town for more than a few days so I'm sure that helped.

But to answer the question, 6 years.

  5. They even tell you what the amounts of metal in the oil means.

That is true, wab, what each metal is present, how much, what it means and what part is wearing.  Good info.

Well, just did my second oil change and first tire rotation yesterday.  Oil change light came on at 10,250 miles.  Checking the history, the car has about 50% EV, 50% ICE operation, so the oil had about 5000 miles on it since I changed it out at 600 miles.  Come to find out, that "green" oil I had from the factory was a UV dye they put in some cars to check for leaks.  Would also explain why the car had water splash marks under the engine, they put the dye in and test drove on wet/salty surface and brought it back and checked for leaks.  Too bad they didn't clean the engine off prior to putting the splash shield on and sending her off to the dealership.

Oil still had small pieces of metal, hard to see but could definitely see some "glitter" in the bottom of the oil drain pan once all the oil was poured out.   Used Mobil 1 5W20 and a Mobile M1-102 Extended Performance oil filter.  Reset the light was easy, hit start button without holding brake, then hold brake and accelerator down for 30 secs, turn car off.

  6. If you have an inclined driveway, you point the car down the grade so when it's up on the ramps it will be level.  I do this when changing out manual transmission fluid which have side drains that require a level vehicle for a proper fill level.   PITA method:  ramps on the front and jackstands on the back.

Mobil 1 0w-20 also meets the newer, higher 954-A standard.

    This ^

And for those that say engine oil has no metal particles, that is not true.  Send your oil off to Blackstone labs and they will tell you that every oil sample has some metal particles in it, though they may be too small to see with the naked eye.

  7. Car and wife sat at the dealership all day today trying to get 13B07 to download.  It wouldn't, still won't.  Car is still there, hopefully we will get it back tomorrow.

Make sure you print out this before taking it in, this may save you a few days and /or another trip.

  8. Installed 3.62 this morning and updated my Ford Sync account online, now it shows that I have the latest update available.

Overall, took about an hour to do everything, had to update my Java on my PC, so that added some time.

One note said it would wipe out all of my programmed nav locations, but it did not do that, which is good.

    So far no problems.

  9. We are picking up our new C-Max SE  Friday. I would be curious to get your reaction to our reasoning for buying the lower-end version of the car instead of the SEL.

    1. No MFT -- this car is for my wife and she is not particularly technology-friendly. For us the base Sync system seems to meet our needs and does not "crash", yes?

    2. No leather seats -- we are having aftermarket leather seating installed for about $1,000.

    3. No sunroof -- we felt we'd rather have a standard roof than a non-opening sunroof; I think Ford kind of blew it with this feature.

    4. Cost -- about $26,000 out the door, to me spending more than $30K on this microvan seemed a bit much.

    Your thoughts?

1- Yes, the MFT does crash, but the other 99.9% of the time it is working it is great.

2- A $1000 for leather seats installed is pretty good.  I got a new set of Katzkins for my Mustang off ebay and installed them myself for $200

3- The roof doesn't open, but if it is too cold, too hot, raining, or snowing, not going to open it anyway.  And open windows kill gas mileage.

4- Fully loaded SEL 303A out the door can be found for under $30, so I think all these features are worth it:

    Heated Mirrors

    Leather

    MFT

Fog Lights - Safety feature in inclement weather

Rain Sensing Wipers - Safety, wipes are controlled auto while you concentrate on driving

    Auto Dimming Mirror

Garage Door Opener - No extra remotes clipped to the visor

Power Drivers Seat - Though I wish it had Memory, my wife and are a 1' apart, so this is a must

    Push Button Start

Security System - My trashy neighborhood, cars get broke into all the time

    Rear Center Armrest

  10. Well, diesel fuel is assessed about 5 cents per gallon more in federal fuel taxes...

I think the main reason is that there just aren't that many diesel passenger cars sold in the US. It's a niche market, and as long as that's true, it won't affect the ability of states to maintain roads enough that they would need to be treated any differently.

OK, so TDIs aren't taxed because they are not enough of them.

Why are hybrid SUV's taxed and not a gasoline car that gets better gas mileage?  There are dozens of cars that get better gas mileage than a Lexus RX 450h, but the hybrid has to pay the extra tax and buy more gas, thus paying more tax.  I guess those hybrid SUVs really chew up the road, so they have to pay their "fair share".

  11. The cost to build and maintain roads doesn't decrease just because people use less gas.

OK, so why does a 47 mpg hybrid have to pay the tax, but a 41+ mpg VW TDI does not?

This VW TDI here in VA gets 58 mpg, and doesn't have any extra TDI/Diesel tax.

I'll just go do some burnouts in my Mustang, make sure I get the road wear I'm paying for.

    Just kidding.

  12. Michelin tires aren't known for blowing out with a slight tap against a curb.  How fast where you going when you say "slow speed"?  Slow speed like barely rolling or slow speed like 10 miles under the speed limit?

I've seen my wife hit a curb while dong a u turn in the C-Max.  She hit the curb "at speed" (10 mph) at an angle while doing a you turn.  I watched the tire jump the curb while at an angle with the steering wheel full locked to the left.  The whole car jumped in the air over the curb and kept going.  Got home an inspected and besides a little tire shine scrubbed off, all was fine. She didn't know i was driving behind her and thought I didn't see it.  Yes, will probably need to check the alignment.

Sorry about the tire, but from what I have seen and experienced, it would take a pretty good lick to blow out a tire.

  13. It most definitely should work and turn off and stay off during start up from the old style buttons.  But it is working now, I can turn it off from the old style buttons and it stays off on the re start.

Well, one thing is different, every time we turn it on, it is set on a different temperature, usually 74 /74 even if we turned it off at another temperature setting. It used to always turn on at the last temperature setting before it was turned off.
