  1. Hey MTB what is ur brake score. I think I have been doing well due to a 95 % brake score. I don't see how u can keep a battery charge without a good brake score. Anyway when I get back from vacation I am going to buy those crazy magnetic units and give suzzane a test since I have been on fully a whole lot for a baseline and want to do this before cooler weather.
  2. Jus if Ford dont answer the questions the freaking dealers have nobody savvy enough to come close to any answers. What are we do to but try and figure out this technology by ourselves. Please somebody direct me to the Wizard of Max for answers :). BTW every other sailing or biking or sports team board we get folks that chim in where we go astray. I'd say we are astray on FE future mods. That is why I need u and Matt to lead the flock. Thanks pal.
  3. Jus, You guys must have a way via smoke signals or courier pigeons to get a note to somebody at Ford to drop in a "Splain" how a guy getting 45-47 would benefit by the FE improvements. If I was getting 40 mpg I would fist in line for anything to make my car get better mpg but what gives with folks like you and Matt?? BTW I am thinking that the KEY to success in getting HIGH FE is +95% brake scores cause let face it low battery storage no EV power!
  4. Suzanne, The sailor in me is a bit skeptical and the engineer in me wants to believe :) One assumes that this works when apparent wind is always forward due vehicle speed. Most of my driving is hwy and I try to say under 62 mph to maximize EV mode. I would love to try your product cause I am a GEEK and think its got legs to it at speed. Did my masters work in hydrodynamics and I know the effect of separation of the streamlines. Ever see a bow of a ship ...looks like a big bulb. We will be talking when I get back from vacation. Magnetic in white for me and I am already on Fuelly and am lucky to be nailing +45-47 mpg each tank full.
  5. A lot of questions surrounding this new upgrade and I would certainly like to know what real world testing they did to MAKE this change mid year. Seems like if you ask most here we don't think you can beat what we are already doing from a FE standpoint so a simple chime in to advise us if this will make MATT or Jus get 70 mpg which the change out. Hey Ford chime in please, maybe a Moderator can get a guest to chime in on this subject. If not how do I go about contacting anybody in the know? My dealer don't know squat when it comes to who to call for knowledge of this change.
  6. Got the new program that State Farm is offering, I signed up for 5% off my policy and they will monitor my driving habits via My Sync and supposedly offer up more discounts based on how I drive, now with the C Max that should be pretty boring. Amazing that they need permission to go to My Sync and tap habits. Technology or Big Brother is watching. My agent is supposed to call me with more details once I signed up, should be interesting for sure. Anybody else hear of something like this.
  7. Riddley There is no free ride some where you will need to pay the price of a depleted battery so the next morning you suck up juice to re-charge cause that is what EV + is all about. I assume by depleting the batteries for a current run you THINK your getting great gas FE for that run but suffer the next day upon start up for a short trip?? I am still confused as I have tried to play out these scenarios in my head a zillion times. I wish I could install these upgrades BUT remove them if I chose to down the road.
  8. Drove to St Michaels MD to have dinner with friends and returned home the same day about 175 miles round trip in what was probably the hottest day of summer so far +95 degree heat there and back. Averaged for both legs of the trip +44.5 mpg with A/C on full bore cause wife was with me. Actually my late night return trip home was into head winds due to storms in the background and I was driving above the 62 mph threshold since I wanted to get home sooner. I actually observed ICE charging batteries when above 62 mph and that allowed me to use the EV when I got into slower traffic. My question is THIS feature goes AWAY at 85 mph speeds. Can somebody explain to me how I am going to use ICE to charge my batteries??????????? when on the hwy. I would rather see top end EV mode at 70 or even 67.5 mph. Please debate this issue for me since I already figured out cold heat up and A/C modes for saving batteries. With these enhancements just undo what I am already mentally programed to do. Somebody please advise me cause NO WAY am I going to rush out and get this done until I hear from Matt and Jus and others whom are beating the game.
  9. No way am I going to be the beta tester for this programing rewrite. I am getting +46 mpg running full AC right now in the middle of the east coast heat wave, I drive 50/50 hwy and city so tell me how is this change going to help me get more juice outta of the fruit. Jus or Matt go be the first adapters and tell me what your getting and I will follow but I may not make a change, I especially don't know about EV at up to 85 mph, seems that the ICE won't re-charge the batteries, I would have liked a top limit of 70 mph for EV and not 85 what gives. To me these changes are to help the masses that have NOT figured out the C Max or for the folks that refuse to adapt to the driving style required to get 47 combined. Your thoughts please.
  10. Now with slightly under 12,000 miles on the odometer and I am getting it higher with each tank full. I am NO match for Recumpance (Matt) or Jus but those dude are in leagues of their own. Very happy to report this findings and BTW I had the first C Max(s) sold in Maryland cause I ordered mine in July and got it in September 2013.
  11. I have not seen any major improvements after the update and really think there is too much Kool Aide being drunk by a few here. I think the warm weather has more to do with FE improvements. Now that I am forced to run heavy A/C all the time I am working harder to maintain +47 mpg. This weeks heat wave of +90 F with high humidity is only netting me 45 mpg's so far all done in city driving.
  12. congrats Adair, you flew to outer space and did not burn up upon re-entry :) Now you can cross this one off your bucket list, it makes what Jus and Matt do at +800 and 700 miles per tank seem like child's play now that you broke +600 miles. Glad you filled up when you did.
  13. One also assumes you did not have your windows rolled down since you had a full load in your car with dogs(2) wife and a child so did you alos have A/C running. So let me see: Fully loaded car A/C possibly running speed set at 70-80 mph don't have a clue what good ecco cruise would do you over those speeds And you got 36.5 MPG My opinion is you probably were never in EV mode at all so why would you expect the car to act as anything other than a gas engine vehicle. I am not trying to defend your results or condemn them but I would be happy getting these results under the conditions you drove your C Max. Hybrids don't shine on the Hwy when driven at speed, you want to get great Hwy results buy a TDI and pay up for premium diesel and if your not lucky you can also pay to replace the Urea needed to wash the exhaust :)
  14. Yeah its a bit high, mine was complimentary free first oil change BUT it was done when warning signal came on. If you have 5000 Odometer miles probably only 2500 ICE miles and way to early for an oil change. Let the car electronics tell you when to change oil.
  15. OK, I have read enough and seen enough of your tank run outs so lets UP the ANTE now and I want to call on you guys to set a place and time for this challenge. I would suggest Washington DC. So here is what I propose. we start off from National Airport a common gas station where we all TOP off our tanks at. We drive up the GW parkway (yes its uphill) to 495 (the beltway) to 95 north up to Baltimore where we go partially around 695 (the B More beltway) and then we drive back down route 1 back to the DC beltway and find a spot where top off and see who wins. Winner is declared based on MPG and TIME (shortest time behind the wheel) We will handicap time and factor MPG for an ultimate Winner. Yup to make it even more interesting we start off in RUSH hour traffic. Get Ford to sponsor this event and LETS DO IT.
  16. Congrats to Jus and Matt for continuing to set the "Bar" for fuel efficiency standards...truly amazing. What is amazing to me since I am in sales and I drive to see clients and sometimes I am late and need to drive faster and sometimes I can hold the speed limit. Most times especially this week I needed to run AC each and every time out, no way around the heat and humidity around the Washington DC area. Scored a 560 mile tank at 11.8 gallons used for 47.4 mpg on my instruments. Only reason I gassed up was to record this fill up as part of my monthly expense for this month. +600 miles is NO BIGGIE anymore and my last 3 tanks have been above 47 mpg. I don't know what more you can ask of this car? It delivers 47/47/47 with Air Conditioning running. My +11,000 mile lifetime average is now at 42.9 mpg and had you told me this when I first picked up my car I would have not believed you. What else can you ask this car to do? I drive the DC beltway as well Baltimore Beltway, freeways and congested traffic. No scenic routes here, if I detour is cause its a traffic jam. Congrats to the 600 mile clubbers and for those still trying hang in there...it shall come.
  17. Jus, is somebody from Ford checking up on you and Matt cause u guys are freaks of nature, I mean it. You guys must know how to follow a tail wind and have a feathery light touch on your accellerators :) Best of luck on 800 but I think at this rate it will be easy for you.
  18. Well to those that followed my after upgrade I was having a really hard tome getting +44 mpg once the upgrade was done. I know that my car was re-learning my routes and driving habits, that was 500 miles ago and after about 300 miles on the same tank of driving at around +44 mpg I noticed that my car gets into EV quicker now and my mpg over the last 200 miles has brought my total mpg to +47.4 with +500 miles driven on this tank. I am convinced that the upgrade required the car to re-learn my tendencies and throttle feel etc. So I am back on the sub 600 miles driven to the tank of gas. Once I accomplished 600 I feel no need to risk burning up a fule pump to constantly hit this mark.....BUT man to I applaud those of you that do this. Now the group that is doing +700 I challenge you to come to Washington DC and drive our beltway and congested roads and highways :) Could not be any happier with a car that gets +45 mpg each and every tank
  19. heck no, just just been very wet and humid, do you guys think the damp air is doing it to me??
  20. my car is not performing well, I am struggling to get 44 mpg now and I was nailing +47 before, looks like the change wiped out my driving habits or something funny is happening....ANYBODY else having a hard time after the upgrade??
  21. The dealer changed my first oil change, my question is I will more than likely go elsewhere for my second and third...how do you clear the dash's warning afterwards? Thanks By the way, was working on 48.2 mpg tank, dropped it off for the recall 3.5.1 and an oil chage and got the car back at 47.2, Still a very respectable tank using premium gas and LOTS of a/c BUT I did not re-fiil with premium since its too large a price point gap per gallon around the DC area.
  22. First off don't compare the newbies here to newbies that never logged on to this forum since our Newbies have been reading all the wisdom posted and have incorporated this wisdom and coaching to get these High FE numbers. That is the first misconception since us early adaptors tried to figure out all the tricks until we found this forum. Second, my FE numbers are on a constant rise even with A/C running on this 300 mile tank which I am at 48.3 mpg at 300 miles driven with the only change is the use of premium in this tank and so far I can say its making a BIG difference. The BIggest difference is weather and better summer fuel grade cause my car was the first batch built and shipped Sept 10 th to my dealer and I took possession around the 20th of Sept 2013. I am scheduled to get the upgrades next week. So my FE numbers have been going way up and I could have easily had 4- 600 mile tanks if I wanted to run my tank that low again, no thanks :) I want my fuel pump to not burn up :)
  23. taking mine in for an oil change and YES they notified me about a tail gate fix and a sync fix that has to do with my GPS...hope those take care of my lingering issues. BTW I rode last week with a guy making sales calls in a Lexus IS 250 and guess what ....IMHO...... POS and you can have that freaking car..low to the ground, harsh ride and bad visability. NO THANKS
  24. Dam, You are beyond a appliance repair guy...a mad scientist if you ask me, very well done Matt.
  25. Do you guys have any connection to Ford Marketing? Seems like demand here is out striping supply, is this true or is Ford slowly rolling out cars off the line, be interesting to know. Plus do you guys know if the fix for the GPS has been issued, my GPS at times has me in the chesapeake bay looking to find rt 50 home?? Thanks catsailor
