  1. CDs and DVDs are entirely optical, the information on them is stored in a non-magnetic way using microscopic bumps which are read by laser light. Magnets would not cause any ill effects on a CD or DVD. Likewise, flash memory is impervious to magnetic fields. http://www.techhive.com/article/116572/article.html Neodymium Magnet Safety Links, FAQ's and Popular Uses http://www.kjmagnetics.com/safety.asp http://www.kjmagnetics.com/FAQ.asp#shield http://www.kjmagnetics.com/uses.asp http://www.supermagnete.de/eng/faq/What-is-the-safe-distance-that-I-need-to-keep-to-my-devices I wouldn't put cards with magnetic strips, like credit cards, ATM cards or parking or ID passes next to magnets, nor would I put a magnet close to a heart pacemaker, hearing aid or mechanical watch. Otherwise there seems to be little risk in using these magnets to hold a stylus to the dashboard.
  2. I used to keep the stylus in the pen holder on the glove box lid, but I got tired of having to lean over and open the lid to retrieve the stylus, and to put it back in the clips when I was done with it. Having the stylus right above the screen is quick and easy to reach, makes you use it more often. Using a stylus helps keep fingerprints off the screen. I have had the magnets glued to the dash for over a month without any problems. I assume there is a hard drive somewhere in the dashboard, I don't know if or where. I would be willing to bet that a hard drive would be well shielded from electrical and magnetic interferrence since these are hybrid/plug-in hybrid cars with strong electrical currents and motors and chargers and controllers throughout them. My compass is working fine, so the sensor for the compass must be far enough away to not be affected - or does the compass work off the GPS system? I can't think of any other systems or components that might be affected by a couple of small, although strong magnets.
  3. When using the touch screen for multi-step input, something more than to just change the radio station, I prefer to use a stylus. I have mounted a stylus above the screen below the opening for the disk. Easy and quick to grab, use, then replace. Doesn't fall off and doesn't rattle. I salvaged two super strength magnets from an old used brush from my Sonicare electric toothbrush and glued them with silicone rubber glue, but one fell off, so I switched to Duco glue. The stylus body is ferrous metal so it sticks to the magnets. Most stylus bodies are made of aluminum and don't stick, so be careful about choosing a stylus. This stylus is the BoxWave EverTouch Capacitive Stylus available from Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BUI76S/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1 These magnets from Amazon would probably work just fine, or just search Amazon for "super magnet" http://www.amazon.com/Magnetics%C2%AE-Block-Package-Neodymium-Magnets/dp/B000UMK666/ref=sr_1_43?ie=UTF8&qid=1373635390&sr=8-43&keywords=super+magnets

  6. Right you are jdbob, thanks! I read the owner's manual about the compressor, but failed to comprehend how to use it without the sealant. I found the information on page 340 of my Energi manual. Now that I know that I can use the air compressor by itself, I am planning on putting some of these in the car for use if there is just a puncture hole in the tread of the tire Victor 22-5-60207-8 Plug & Go Tire Repair Kit http://www.amazon.com/Victor-22-5-60207-8-Plug-Tire-Repair/dp/B00CRCQFXK/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=247RTKVVLFNXU&coliid=I3SBZ4ZN10VW16

  8. Can you use the air compressor (from under the front passenger seat) without the sealant goo? For instance, if a tire was not punctured but just low on air and needed pumped up a bit, or to inflate a basketball, or to inflate a bicycle tire ...
  9. For more information about the sharkfin antenna, see the C-Max Energi forum post http://fordcmaxenergiforum.com/topic/1170-shark-fin-antenna/ To install the sharkfin you do not have to remove the headliner or do any work inside the car. You do not have to remove the antenna base - just unscrew the pigtail, then attach the coiled wire from the sharkfin to the base, stick the sharkfin down with the adhesive tape around its base. The sharkfin totally covers the base with a shell that is color matched to your car. See link for details. I have noticed no decrease in performance of the am/fm/sirius radios or gps.

  13. I used "Bungee Buddy's" to add tie-down points at the top of the rolling cover. I purchased a Bell 22-1-33653-8 Cargo Net from Amazon, cut six inches off one side and re-routed the shock cord, added "S" hooks. I used the round tie-downs supplied with the Bell cargo net and mounted them to the roof of the back of the cargo area. I pulled down the headliner, drilled a hole and put a 1/4-20 bolt in the celing. I tapped the center hole of the tie-downs with a 1/4-20 tap and threaded them onto the end of the bolt. I can use the cargo net hammock-style, or open it up and have it stretch from floor to celing.
