  1. Update: Many is still at the dealer. They've replaced the tranny and also said there was a leak in the transmission cooling system that may have caused the tranny to die. Seems strange to me as i did not note any fluid on the ground at all. Also they found a bad wheel bearing. The tranny is covered under warrantee and also I believe the cooling system, not the bearing I presume.

I'm beginning to think it may be time to unload this car. Sad.

  2. Thanks for your reply Bob. Yes, I've read some of the tranny problems on this forum. I do about 20-30% long trips. We drive from western NC to NJ several times per year at interstate speeds and also several other trips as well. For example we're doing a Florida run next month. But most of the time it's just around town kind of driving. Asheville is hilly, so there's that to consider as well. All things being equal, I'd really like to keep the car as I do like it a lot.

PS--lI don't want the trans to fail again!

  3. I have a 2013 Cmax SEL with 79,000 miles. I just got my car back from my dealer after a brand new transmission was installed for free...thank you Ford. I had the whining sound when driving and they said it was a bad internal bearing and replaced the entire transmission. So, I’m wondering if this is a message to me that I’m faced with other major repairs? The car drives really well now and I like it quite a bit. I get in the 40’s to 50 around town and about 40 on the highway at 70 mph speeds.

So the question is what’s the sweet spot between sale value now and future repair costs. Opinions?

  4. So I bought new tires the other day. Here's the details: I've got a 2013 with 59,000 miles. Liked the first set of Michelin's and wanted to get the same ones. I only needed 3 because I had to replace one while traveling when I tore the sidewall out of one. The replacement tire has 8/32 left, so I got 3 of the same as original (Michelin A/S). So, here's my questions:

I have the older tire on the right front. What do you-all think of that decision?

Now as to tire pressure: I filled them to 38. My tire guy did not want me to go higher due to wear life. I've read threads here in which folks are riding on really high pressure, like even 50. I'm wondering about hemorrhoids at that high a pressure, not to mention tread life.

BTW, I was able to get the tires from a local independent shop for $207 each including tax, balancing, etc.

    What say you-all?

  5. As a matter of fact, just this evening I used Siri instead of MFT because for some odd reason it was telling me it couldn't find the person in my address book (although MFT has downloaded my phone book).  So I just switched over (you hold the paddle down a LONG time for it to come on to Siri) and told Siri to dial the number and it worked fine.

The bigger question is do you have any issues using your iPhone with bluetooth in MFT?  If you don't, then Siri Hands Free should work fine (if you do then you have other issues beyond Siri Hands Free).

Well, MFT works fine on BT for me and my iPhone 6. But I must be connected to power, either by usb or using power cord for Siri to be voice activated by the looonnng pull on the paddle. So, don't know what's going on.

  6. The one thing I don't get is the fact that you have to plug in your phone to use this system.   Just seems like a pain to use.  I really like being able to keep my phone in my pocket and use it that way.  I think at some point these will work that way too.

At least that is my understanding of how it works.

Glad you mentioned this Scott. I was about to post something also. Since doing the 3.8 update, I've wondered why I couldn't invoke Siri Eyes unless I was plugged in. What a shame. Should work by bluetooth. Maybe Car Play would work via Bluetooth though.

  7. As far as I know, it's mainly for Siri eyes for the iPhone.

Yes, I selected the correct XML file but for whatever reason the code on the webpage didn't seem to do anything with the XML file after I selected it.  I was expecting the page to refresh or something to indicate the log file was received.  It just sat there at "Select File" as if that step wasn't done.  I'm going to ignore the problem for now.

I went through all the screens in the new version and other than reorganizing a few buttons/menus I'm not sure there's any new functionality that is pertenent to my needs..Visually it all looks pretty much the same as the last release as far as I can tell.  Perhaps they improved support for some newer phones or phone features that don't apply in my situation - I don't use an iPhone so I guess I'm missing the big reason to update.  Still, if they are offering it for free why not..

I'll have to see if NAV response time is any faster next time I make a long trip.

My vehicle health report now shows that I have a brake system issue and it shows the wrong mileage until my next service.  I checked the brake fluid and it's fine, and no brake indicator lights on the dash so I'm assuming that it's a problem with the software that generates the report.  The last time I ran the report was after a 20 minute drive so I'm sure the engine was on long enough.

No way to really see the % oil life remaining without a scan tool but I think it can't be more than 200 miles until my next oil change at the dealer anyway.

  8. Well, I don't have Sync 3 and Siri Eyes works for me.

To use it, you need to hold down the paddle a LONG time -- remember that a regular paddle press will invoke MFT.  Frankly, the few times I've tried it I have not been impressed (to me, MFT works more reliably and consistently than Siri does in this particular situation.  We had a riot of a time trying to get Siri to navigate because I thought it would be easier than trying to get MFT to do so.  Siri was about as hilarious as she can be, but not very helpful :>)

Thanks so much Kellytunes for the hint about holding the paddle down longer. It seems to need about 2 full seconds to activate Siri. Now it works

  9. Update: Successfully installed the update and I'm now at 3.8.  BUT, I don't know if this was even worth it. It seems that in order to use Siri Eyes, you must have Sync 3. I don't think I have this and I'm really confused about trying to determine which system I have. I have a 2013 SEL w/o the navigation system.

About to reinstall my wallpapers and try to determine what I can do with this great 3.8 system.

  10. i downloaded the update from the Ford Owner site yesterday. The directions spoke about unzipping the file, but I believe it downloaded unzipped already. When I looked into the file structure, there seemed to be several zip files and it was unlcear to me which one to unzip. So I discarded that one and re-downloaded the file. I placed that on my flash drive and will try to install it later today when I have time. Pray for me.

  11. Using an iPhone with synch and have successfully for years. All of a sudden, hands free won't work. The phone is paired properly (and I repaired it also). I can use voice to ask for a number, and it dials the number, but no sound from the phone comes into the system. Voice says it is dialing the number, but I there is no sound coming through. Also, there is now a menu which pops up on the right small screen giving a choice to connect to hands free. Using the toggles can select that option, but once highlighted, nothing else happens. I also used voice command to connect hands free. I get a confirmation by voice but nothing happens.

I just did a master reset of synch and after booting up again, the same problem occurs. Hoping someone has an idea for me.
