How do I turn off my DRL's?

Recommended Posts

Yes, amoredsaint has a company owned car as per another thread.

Yesterday morning was my first one with the cmax in heavy fog.  I noticed several drivers who didn't have their lights one and was cussing at them.  Then I noticed most of these folks were in newer Fords followed closely in noticing that mine were no longer on either!!!  The sensor for the auto lamps is too optimistic IMO and turns them off too soon.  DRL would help.

Yes, I agree, and I think they don't come on as soon as other cars I see, either in the evening or in bad rain.

the light sensor is definitely not very sensitive, even close to 8:30pm EST on a clear day in Ohio it's not on yet.

I put a narrow strip of black electrical tape across the light sensor, to make the auto lights come on while it's still a little lighter out. The sensor is a small bump in the dash, far forward, between the defrost vents.

DRL's could have a negative impact on a hybrid vehicle that already has issues with keeping a 12v battery charged.  I like the fact the C-Max has an indicator light that makes it easy to see if the headlights are on or not.  I usually keep my headlights on auto but if I want to override the system I manually turn them on.

If that was the case, Toyota would not have put DRL`s on their Prius, although, they do have the capability to disable them for those that choose to do so.  If Ford though it would present a potential  problem, why would they offer DRL`s as an Option # 942 for $45 for Fleet Only Purchases requiring a (FIN)?
