mtb9153
Got a mini cam from the wifee for Fathers Day, so now I can stick it in front of the grille to see how the air flow louvers are functioning during warm-up. Should be helpful. Edited June 18, 2013 by mtb9153 ScubaDadMiami

mtb9153
I' love to see that! We'll see what I can record, here is a pic of the GoPro mounted on the front bumper looking back at the grille opening. Right now the louvers are fully open sitting in my garage. Hopefully this means they will fully close when I start the engine cold in the morning. Since I don't trust the suction cup mount, I have added plenty of mini bungee cords to hold it on while driving. $250 riding on my front bumper. salsaguy
I'd rather see some hd vids of the engine engage screen on the dash while driving around town and on the hwy with some voice over explaining how you are driving and what your right gas pedal foot is doing to teach folks how to drive the cmax to MAX the mpgs. If its the suction mount that comes with the camera, those are pretty good. I have used mine on the side of my Jeep while rack crawling and it stuck all day. I realize I don't have the wind you would, but I hope your Cmax isn't getting hit by tree branches all day. ;) Just make sure the surface is clean. I'd rather see some hd vids of the engine engage screen on the dash while driving around town and on the hwy with some voice over explaining how you are driving and what your right gas pedal foot is doing to teach folks how to drive the cmax to MAX the mpgs. mtb9153
I could do this by setting the camera on my tripod while straddling the center console, if I had a roll bar it would be a no-brainer to point it at the 8-inch screen. Improvisation and fabrication is my challenge. I love to make things happen. Oh and yes it is the suction from GoPro, bought it Monday. mtb9153
Attached are some pics I took of my newly fabricated mount for my GoPro Cam hanging facing forward between the front seats. I took a 23" long piece of clear acrylic rod 3/4" diameter and compression fit it between the two front head rest support rods. By cutting a small notch or groove into either end of the rod it holds the acrylic rod in place with the cam mounted using the GoPro accessory I bought for putting the cam on my bike handlebars. Easy mod and doesn't require drilling or modification of the Max interior. Edited June 23, 2013 by mtb9153
salsaguy
wow lots of wires.looks like a roll bar. can't wait for the vids.do you have a list of things you plan to shoot first? are you taking requests?maybe you can sell a setup to Jus and recump so they can shoot some vids. put a standard threaded camera bolt there so anyone can mount any small digital camera in the bottom tripod mount threaded hole in their cam

My plan is to start with shooting video looking at the gauges and the MFT energy flow screen while doing some voiceover describing what kind of driving conditions/challenges I'm facing presently. This will be very strange for me since most professional Videographers have an unwritten rule that the camera never talks, someone will stand in front of the camera saying what needs to be said while recording. But since I have no PA (Professional Assistant) working with me on my projects, I'm flexible with that rule. Once these are ready for viewing I will post a thread with a YouTube link. As far as answering your questrion..."maybe you can sell a setup to Jus and recump so they can shoot some vids." That would be complicated since my GoPro equipment is valued at over $250. My professional HDV camcorder (Canon XHA1) cost me $4k for the camera alone. All of my related equipment is over $15k value. Not an option unless they want to pay for it in advance. salsaguy
sounds great kind of like a self study and then get graded by the masters like Jus and recump and get feedback.can't wait to see.be sure you mention of you are going up our downhill or if it's flat and if you are in eco cruise or pulse and gliding or featheribg the pedal. Will really help others here I'm sure. kudos to you. salsaguy
wish there wer 2 cmax owners on this forum who lived close enough to each other so you could do a 10 miles drive in court and highway and then switch drivers in same car and so the same route as 1st driver to compare.obviously some traffic will be different but you get the ideas how 2 can get the same or different results in the same car. or have them swap cars and both do the route at the same time then switch it. and compare notes. I have yet to meet a local owner who wants to talk about their Max or waves back at me as I see them driving around the valley. Not at all like the owners I associated with for years in my previous car club. We got together regularly for gatherings and picnics during the summer just to hang out and talk cars even if in a parking lot somewhere. salsaguy
yeah i know what you mean. i know the VW owners love to get together and help mod their cars. when i had my 1995 Ford Probe GT i was part of SCPOC the Southern California Probe Owners Club.we had get togethers and a forum / website like this one. hopefully when there are more cmaxes on the road a few chapters can be formed in the bigger markets like CA ,NY, etc for just this kind of stuff. All ready done: This guy did a great job (3 cameras/split screens). The driving portion with display shots starts around the 8:00 min mark but the whole thing is very worthwhile for newbies. The driving portion with display shots starts around the 8:00 min mark but the whole thing is very worthwhile for newbies.Very nicely done, couldn't have done it better myself. Right now I only have the ability to shoot video from 2 perspectives since I only have two cameras. I do have an old Sony Bloggie which could give me a 3 camera perspective but the Bloggie is very limited in what it can offer in this sort of application. As far as editing the 3 camera footage into this format with 3 screens it is a little bit more work since the audio tracks from all 3 video's have to be sync'ed together in the editing timeline but I can certainly do it on my MacPro using Final Cut Pro software. However there is one problem right now for me to do any of this right now and that is because just today a problem has occurred with my Canon XHA1 with the internal output board. Apparently it is blown out because I'm unable to export my raw footage I took today from the camera using the firewire port and into my editing suite. So not sure when I will be able to do my own technical video series like this guy did. But again his is very nicely done and VERY informative for learning about how to best get the maximum performance out of our cars.
salsaguy
KAL, yeah, very cool car. great handling. always got compliments. took premium gas though and hard as heck to work on that Mazda engine they squeezed in the engine bay with a shoehorn. shops would give me the dirty look when i had to service it. it was nice owning two Motor Trend Car of the Year (Probe GT and now the VW Passat). sadly don't see very many of those 94-95 Probes anymore, let alone the GTs.....back to the ON topic discussion :) How I miss the handling of my 94 Probe GT, haven't owned a car one since the that could beat it.
