Navigation Map Updates

Recommended Posts

Hello

Anyone here know of, or has Ford released any Map updates for C-Max My Ford Touch navigation system with the SD card? Lots of construction and road changes happening and would like to see the map updated.

George

The last update was with MFT 3.5.1 version.  It includes the A4 SD card.

most OEM maps updates happen only once a year or so (and having to buy an expensive $ 100-200 DVD/CD ROM to install it);  unlike aftermarket consumer GPS systems like Garmin which can be updated quarterly if you have the free lifetime maps option model. stock GPS is a negative in that regard as they are always outdated at least a year or two compared to consumer add-on GPS units, sadly.

I would think after the first year of all these warranty issues with the C-max, those map SD cards won't be free anymore and Ford will start charging owners.

Would love to find this out also - especially to send them error corrections, have about 5 streets in my neighborhood that have been one ways for decades, and even the navigation system directs you to turn down them the wrong way. With as narrow as these streets are it is just a accident or an encounter waiting to happen

Our house is about 80 years old, and has had the same address for the 25 years we've lived in it, but most GPS systems, even Garmin, put our address at our neighbors house. And the A4 card didn't change anything about our trip to Indy....it still lost us on US 24 in Ohio.

the same thing happened on the garmin unit, but at least I was able to document it and send it to garmin, they verified and corrected it on their subsequent map releases.

you send map errors for streets to the mao maker, not to Ford. go to navteq.com and you should be able to virtually view the street you want to see if indeed the map is bad or not.  it can take 1-3 years for new streets to show up by the time the land/street work is completed, and maps are redrawn, then map maker digitizes it then they sell it to end users like Garmin and Ford, which then gets in your carand it still may be outdated.

do you live in a complex where you share a common mail box that has a bunch of slots? We live on a private culdesac that has a home owners association of 5 houses and we share a large central mailbox but the houses are separate. but most gpses will say the house is located on the left side (your destination is on the left) since that is where the mailbox is, but the house is physically on the right side of the street across from the mailbox. to the gps or map maker the address is where the mailbox is located, not always the actual house.

you don't care about the car. you just need to check the street your looking for to verify accuracy of the data. zoom in on their map to see if the street exists or not on their site. if not it needs to be added or is in the process of being added.

if they ask for the car type you could put the Ford fusion which is the same basically.

Have you ever tried the Waze app for smart phones? They up date their maps about every week and they are a world wide org. Their users edit maps on their web site and after verification they are updated, usually within a few weeks. So why it would take these other companies years to incorporate changes is a mystery. Never mind the ridiculous charge they want for the update. And by the way Waze is a free app. The GPS as we know it is going by-by. If auto makers want to keep up, and have the built in GPS mean something to consumers, then they will need to offer better timely map updates with No charge for them!
