bigalpha
I see that it's rated at 150 watts, but are there any other specs published for it? I assume you can plug in a computer to it?
otbiker
Sorry for the misinformation. Guess it would help if I stuck to the correct voltage... Marty The only other spec would be amp capacity. It would be 12.5 amps. 150/12=12.5 Edited September 21, 2013 by otbiker
ceemax71
Actually the amps capacity is: 150/110=1.36 Amps It would be nice if it was good for 12.5 amps. It is supposed to provide enough power for laptop computers, phone chargers, and game consoles. obob
bigalpha
If I have a power supply that's plugged into the wall, e.g. battery charger, how do I verify that it's safe to use in the car?
homestead
If I have a power supply that's plugged into the wall, e.g. battery charger, how do I verify that it's safe to use in the car? Check the current spec labeled on the power supply is less than 1.3amps input power.
ceemax71
According to the shop manual, the 110VAC inverter has self protection against short circuit, overload, high temperature, and high or low battery voltage. If you plug in a device that requires over 150 watts, it will shut itself off after a few seconds. The green LED will flash when it shuts itself. bigalpha
I don't recall if the power supply had an amperage listed, I'll have to double check. Also, if I trip the self protection on that 110V plug, will I have to restart the car to regain functionality?
ceemax71
The manual says it will reset itself up to 5 times. It doesn't explicitly say, but you probably have to restart the car after the 5 trips. From the shop manual description and operation: Short circuits on the inverter output circuits: If the inverter detects a short on the output circuit(s), it shuts down. After 6 seconds, it restarts and checks for a short condition. If the condition still exists, the inverter shuts down again. The inverter restarts 5 times and, if the short still exists on the 5th restart the inverter disables AC output and flashes the green LED indicator. bigalpha
Thanks. I don't have any sketchy electronics that I'm plugging into my $35,000 car, lol. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't plug anything in that'd trip it. I'm not running a vacuum or flat screen.
