SSM 44214 - 2013 Hybrid - CMax, Fusion, MKZ - Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) On With Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1A0C And P1A0F - Start/Stall Diagnostics

Some 2013 Full Hybrid Electric Vehicles (CMax, Fusion, MKZ) may exhibit a concern of illuminating Red Triangle Warning lamp and empty High Voltage Battery bar with DTC P1A0C AND P1A0F in the SOBDMC module. When servicing a vehicle for this concern it is critical to be aware that the high voltage battery is used to crank the combustion engine for a maximum of 20 seconds at a time. Vehicles that shut down after trying to start the engine are No Start concerns, although they are commonly misdiagnosed as start, then stall events. If DTC P1A0F is set in the SOBDMC module, there are only about 10 cranking attempts left before the high voltage battery is completely discharged. Perform normal PC/ED diagnostics for a crank/no-start symptom before further attempting to start the vehicle.
