.................... Even through 2013 and 2014 engine labeled with same part number, they are probably different in some detailed spec, like cylinder tolerance range, etc.  ......................

In my experience,  a change in applicable specifications or in toloerances would always require an engineering change order and a change in drawing number or drawing revision number.

Just an interesting note on duty cycle of ICE on my 6K mi. trip I got about 42mpg and 93% ICE. On my record trip of 909 mi., 65.4mpg on one tank I used ICE 29%, EV 71% big difference ICE running time. :)

Paul

really interesting Paul, 909 miles round trip?  Glad your home safe.

Further confounding the situation, Mobil 1 has just released Extended Performance 0W-20, but lists the same Ford specs as the 5W-20, i.e.,

Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W-20 synthetic motor oil meets or exceeds the requirements of:
ILSAC GF-5
API SN, SM, SL, SJ
Ford WSS-M2C945-A
Ford WSS-M2C930-A

Additionally, inputting data for the 2013 at their website returns a recommendation of 5W-20 Extended Performance, while using 2014 returns 0W-20.  Everyone's playing hardball with this.

Good find.  Now, if you select superior protection instead of ultimate protection on the Mobil site, the 0W20 AFE oil comes up again for the 2013 and now also for the 2014 C-Max. Evidently, since Mobil1 now has a EP oil for the C-Max, it shoves AFE down a notch.  If you select the lowest level of protection (Premium Protection) on the site, Mobil displays the oils for all levels of protection - Ultimate, Superior, and Premium.

BTW, I corrected your sentence above.  ONLY FORD IS APPARENTLY PLAYING HARDBALL.   I do wonder though why Mobil makes no reference to WSS-M2C947-A (maybe oversight).

This today on OASIS; not C-Max specific but none-the-less relevant (IMO):

Mar 12 2014 4717 -2014 Fusion and MKZ Hybrid/Energi - Oil Viscosity Specification Change

The oil viscosity recommendation of 5W-20 on the oil fill caps on some 2014 Fusion and MKZ Hybrid/Energi vehicles may appear to conflict with the owner guide and other service publications which recommend 0W-20 oil. Both 0W-20 oil and 5W-20 oil are approved for use in these vehicles.
