Engine reving in park. lunging forward

Has anyone had any issues with thier C-Max revving up right after starting it? Usually when I turn my car on, it's quiet and the engine doesn't kick on. Here lately when I start it, it's like the pedal is to the medal and the engine revvs full speed and the car starts lunging forward in park. The only way to stop it is to turn the car off and then turn it back on. Also, my battery dies a few times a month and it's a pain in my ass. If anyone can offer me any advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Sounds like your car is VERY confused and DOES not sound like it is safe to drive.

What year / month was your car made?

Is it an SE or SEL?

There have been known battery issues on many cmaxes (monthly SE models) but haven't heard about the revving issue

This same thing happened to my car last week.  I have a 2013.  It was 2nd time it had happened and this time I drove directly to dealership without turning car off.  It was lunging forward and eventually started smoking at which point the service manager told me we better turn it off.  They had it for 2 days and fixed it (hopefully).  Said it was a bad cylinder head temperature sensor..or something like that.  Sensor was reporting that it was running hot and was revving to circulate coolant (at least that's how it was explained to me) and the smoke was caused by the engine compensating for the high temp by richening the fuel mixture hence the puff of smoke we saw from the oil burning.  It would make more sense to me if he said the sensor was indicating cold temperature instead of hot.  I hope it is fixed, but I am concerned that just a symptom was fixed, and not the cause....or do these sensors commonly go bad by themselves? I have never had battery issues although I have only had my C-max about a month.  Bought a certified preowned.  Hope this helps the Massie.  I got on here just to see if this was common but yours was the only other post I could find.  Did you take it in yet?
