C-Max 3rd in J.D.Power Compact MPV Class

Recommended Posts

Here's the press release http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2014-us-initial-quality-study-iqs  Ford improved in 2014 to the industry average of 116 problems per 100 vehicles from 131 pp100 in 2013 with an industry average of 113 pp100..

Looks like Ford's ranking in the 2014 JD Powers Dependability study is still one notch below average. Ford is now at 140 pp100 compared to the industry average of 133 pp100.  In 2013 Ford had 127 pp100 compared to the industry average of 126 pp100.

"Initial Quality Surveys" for the first 90 days of ownership always make great press for the top-rated models, especially if they have nothing else to brag about.  :banghead:

So it's very interesting to 'drill down' and see that in the loosely defined 'Multi Purpose Vehicle' category, the top-rated 2014 Mazda 5 has a 5 of 5 for "Overall quality", BUT long-term reliability is predicted to be only 2 of 5. And the Mazda 5 is based on the 6/7 passenger version of Ford's global C platform, named the Grand C-MAX in Europe.

Second place 2014 Kia Soul is 5-of-5 Overall, and 4-of-5 predicted Long-term reliability.

The 3rd place 2014 C-MAX (both Hybrid and Energi Hybrid are listed) is 3 of 5 for Overall AND predicted Long-term reliability is 3 of 5.

Identical ratings (Overall 3 of 5, and 3 of 5 Long term) go to the 2014 Prius v, although you have to search 'Wagons' to find it.
