fordfan82 Posted July 22, 2014 Report Share Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) So my wife drives The E-way 5 days a week and we drive the rest City when we go out to eat, movies, grocery shopping. We would be coming from a 2013 Ford Escape. Wondering how much we would save in Gas a month? My wife estimates 70 bucks but I know it has to be higher than that. Any guesses on what gas savings would be? I know she is light on the brakes. For a 3 year Lease on a 2014 C-max SE was quoted 388. Right now we're paying 438 a month on our Escape so it would save 50 bucks on the lease payment if we pulled the trigger and did something Thursday. Any advice on the Gas savings Gladly helps. We get :nonono: 33.7 @ 78 (using eco-cruse) on our 675 mile trips to/from Colorado.What does the Escape get @ 70+mph? The Cmax is giving me on average 49 MPG under same driving conditions/habits. Kelleytoons Posted July 22, 2014 Report Share Posted July 22, 2014 I have gotten about 39mpg doing 70mph on our (so far) four trips to/from Orlando. That's with air on pretty high (90+ degrees here with interior set for 73). I expect that will be slightly better now that I've tinted the windows but we'll see. Neither our battery nor engine are completely broken in and that may give better results as well down the road. One key for good mileage with the C-Max is supposedly not going much over 70mph, but that's actually a good general rule anyway (never drove much faster even in our Durango). Also, the 2014 is supposedly geared slightly better for this than the 2013 models, AFAIK. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
fbov Posted July 22, 2014 Report Share Posted July 22, 2014 Part of the answer depends on where you live in Michgan; some areas get extrememly cold, and some get heavy snow on a regular basis. The former kills mileage as the engine must run to heat the occupants, and you might miss AWD if you live in areas that get frequent deep snow. That said, we average 96" snowfall here, and FWD with good snows is more than enough to get through. I find the car is a delight in a snow storm, as you have visibility commensurate with your traction. As a Ford owner, you may have heard of ETIS; look up the intended VIN to see if it has an "immersion heater" aka block heater. Mine is listed as "less immersion heater" and it shows up in winter mileage. As to cost, my ownership average over the last 11 months is $0.10/mile, but I'm running more like $0.08/mile on my last tank of mixed driving, with a low of $0.07/mile. Assuming your wife now gets Wnuk's 27mpg, at $3.72/gal gas price, she's spending about (27 / 3.72)= $0.1377.mile, about a $0.05/mile difference. Savings depend on how far she drives; $50 savings occurs at 1000 miles/month, $70 savings at 1400 miles/month. She might be closer than you think!
