First...

:hi5: Shout out to the Lord for keeping me safe, at the expense of Maxine, my 2013 CMax. She was all bent (including frame) but got patched up by Ford Auto Body in Van Nuys, CA and I truly believe, she has a NEW spirit  - driving much better than she was before. Amazing & shes a Blessed car, I have no doubt.

:hi5:  Shout out to Matt aka Recumpence - the 1st Maxer to break the 700 and ever since then over, 40+ tanks in the 700s.

:hi5: Shout out to ptjones for breaking the 600 at the same time as me back in 2013. Skipped the 700s and went to the high 800s.

:hi5:  Shout out to all who drive and strive to break in the 600, 700, 800 - KEEP GOING...especially Brother Mike. Keep going (or come down and see me and get some tutes).

:hi5:  Shout out to the Consumer Report aka Toaster Reviews for a brilliant job of convincing us the CMax is a 38MPG car, especially in the City. Yeah, way to go fellas, :love_shower:  proving you wrong every time I get into Maxine.

:hi5:  Shout out to Ford for an AMAZING car - if you use her right & understand how she performs :)

Now, I did NOT run out of gas as my intention was to break the 900  barrier to prove IT IS POSSIBLE and get to the gas station afterwards.

I had the spare gas tank, jus in case. For me, I see it as a bonus point for NOT running out of gas to prove that I can manage my MPGs. Yeah, I could have added more miles but thats not my intention or goal.

Now, these 901 miles was done with from garage, to work, to the golf courses and back to the garage,  all City surface streets. There is no freeway miles here and given there is little difference in time saved (thanks to Los Angeles traffic), I might as well utilize the roads & MPGs. There was no special loop or special trip. Many hours at the lights waiting (can't time all of them).

SPECS on Maxine:

Maxine has  :airquote: Moi made center grill cover.

9 gas pods on the rear shelf.

Tire pressure was maintained around 50psi.

Premium Costco Tier 1 gas used, always.

Everything else is plain Jane stock SEL.

This 901 miles tank is my 8th 800+ tank as I did not count the many 600s and 700s tanks I've had. To me 800+s are DA BOMB and I try and drive these tanks day-in-day-out unless Maxine has to do camping or snow trips, then she does 600s and 700s tanks.

Now, I think its possible to break the 1000 using a non-aero modded CMax (not counting the grill cover or gas pods) - with the right traffic conditions, route and weather. Someone else can try for this...

Cheers and keep on MAXing.

Jus-A-CMax

PS Its camping & snow season coming up, thats it for these big tanks and its back to the 600s, 700s or mid 800s. It all depends but you know one thing, Maxine and I will be MAXing it up. By the way, I had a black SEL follow me down Glenoaks today, I wonder who that was...dude was behind Jus-A-CMax EVing and doing the rolling recharge. I think he was doing the same, he was going around the same speed as me...cruising in a 35 mph ;)

Wow... just WOW ~ I'm jus striving to make 600 as a  :noobie:

SOoooo... take a DEEP BOW, Brother Jus!!   :worship:

You just set the 'pace car' bar rather high & we all love you for it!!   :love_shower:  :love_shower:  :love_shower:  :love_shower:

Hope it's okay that I copied your post to a Word doc to add to the C-Max Club Proposal (see my post in the South Atlantic Region). Putting my thinking cap on how to get you here for a Tips, Tricks & Technical presentation/demonstration & MPG Challenge Rally ~ probably next Spring.

Jus - those numbers are incredible!

A couple of questions. What would you say is your average trip length? IIRC, you're an assessor. Are you typically driving from place to place all day with, typically, less than 1/2 hour stoppages (so the engine stays warm between trips)?

I still haven't quite cracked 600 yet, but am consistently well above 500 during the summer. I'm pretty happy with that. My typical trip is less than 5 miles, and on a cold engine, so it can be tough to average 45+ mpg in those conditions. I am curious if you're able to do better under those conditions.

:clapping:   :salute:

You gotta be careful posting documented proof of gas mileage like that!

You've made an absolute mockery of the 47/47/47, 45/43/40, and 42/40/37 EPA mpg numbers.
Ford is gonna call you and ask you to return the latest 'Customer Satisfaction' check!
OPEC is worried, because with numbers like that, you could singlehandedly lower the demand for foreign oil.
Toyota is wondering how you found out about their top-secret next-generation 65mpg Prius that looks exactly like a current generation Ford C-MAX.

And those Toaster Reviewers are gonna call you, wondering if you can show them how to toast 4 slices of bread at the same time in a 2-slice toaster.

Q1 Garage to work is 20 miles, may vary 1 mile depending on whether I want to change it up a bit. 63 traffic lights! Work to Garage to the Golf course and then home is 28 miles, so 48 miles and I typically average 66.6 (good) to 62 MPG (bad). All depends on traffic. Sometimes I go to my Chiro and that stretches out the day trip to about 56 miles total and I finish around 65(good) to 64(bad). I am no longer an assessor, got a 9to5 job that pays way more money and less time & mileage on the road. My tank now lasts 3 to 3 1/2 weeks. My trip variations is what golf course I go to after work or whether I go to the market.

Now, the warm up cycle is intersting. From cold, I get Maxine rolling to about 100 yards and kick in the ICE in the D mode. Let it run for 2 seconds, and then kick in the L mode and I accelerate to about 15-20mph. Shegoes into EV. Then I kick in ICE again, and then she goes into a 2nd warm up cycle that lasts about 2 seconds. Then EV. Then I kick in ICE again and she, may, go into a 3rd cycle. That lasts about 2 seconds. All up this is over 2 miles and I expend about 0.03 gas, that I consider warming up from COLD. Now when she is warmed up, like driving to the golf course, she will take about 2 seconds and start in D go for a little while and kick in the L for a second and then kick it back to D.

Why do I do L - based on hybridbear's finding with the warmup cycles that been programmed into the CMax. It works and I run the center grill cover. Temps for this cycle in the morning has not dropped below 65F, its been warm here and Maxine :flirt:  the warmer temp.

:hat_tip:  why thank you. R u sure, you're not my evil long lost relation from a very distant past, centuries ago....Brother Kostby? You post had me ROFL,  luv it...thanks

Thanks, scottwood. You'll get here and I am sure there will be others too...thats jus the way of the game. I thought breaking 750 bar was hard, then breaking 800 bar and this one is Jus-Another-Feather in the cap that Maxine wears, shes looking pretty :)

Now, 800 is norm for me, 900 is stretching it. I'll do some stats of my 800 runs one day. Now, imho - the 1000 is doable, based on analyzing my route, traffic conditions but that would be a special trip/loop route and I don't play that game, gotta work and enjoy life :)

ps for those who think they can't - jus think of history & the 4 minute mile. Once that was broken everything was possible then. For us Maxers - in 2012, we thought the 600 miles was barely possible. Then that fell - as of today, we have 55 Maxers who broke this bar. Then the 700 was :airquote: impossible, we now have 8 drivers. Then we thought the 800 miles was up in the stratosphere...we now have 4 drivers. Pretty soon...we'll do the same with the 900 bar - mark my words. Jus give it time.

This CMax get better & better as the odo clocks up and you become a better & better driver :)

Wow, I didn't know you could hack the start-up cycle by going into L. I'll have to try it sometime, though I doubt I'll make a habit of it  :drop:

Check out the Hybridbear thread that I pinned in one of the Hybrid Tips section - its a great read. As long as you learn & adapt - you'll be up there, sooner than later :)

Now -- not to be the naysayer in all of this (because you are truly a God when it comes to mpg) but the real story here is why the heck are your gas prices so high? (LOL).

Geeze -- I haven't paid *that* much for gas ever, even when they were scalping us due to political considerations.  Or, to put it another way, if you bought gas at, say 10% less (which is the most I've ever paid, not even counting the 20% I get off by using Publix sales) then your mileage would have easily been over 1000.

(Or to even put it another way, I get gas at the equivalent of around 35% less than you, which means my own normal 600 mpg tank is really closer to 800 mpg every single time I fill up.  Wow, I'm *really* doing good, even at highway speeds <bg>).

But, seriously, good job.

Veeerrrry impressive Brother Jus but coming from you I'm not surprised.  Ok nuff said.  The wife and I are kicking around a trip to the southland in Maxus.  Probably in late November or early December.  It is a trip to visit the Mousehouse which we have not been to since 2007.  But also hopefully to get some training from the master of MPG at a time and place to be arranged with you once we can pin down our arrival time. :worship:

I would tell my Wife but she wouldn't believe it! She is still trying to break thru the 600 mile barrier!

Thanks and get her to keep at it. She would make the 3rd female driver to break the bars in the club

Now, if you look at the 600+ Mile thread, all she needs is 45.9 MPG to break the 600 miles. It tougher with freeway (more challenging imho) to break the barriers. Whilst the CMax is ultra strong in the city, its achilles heel will always be the freeways - there is nothing that us drivers can do to fight the physics, aero and gravity of the car. So walk away with a huge smile if you break the 47 MPGs (which is more than possible as I have proven with my fully loaded trips to Mammoth and back).

Thanks Kelleytoons, if you think these gas prices are HIGH, you should have seen it 3 months ago, it was peaking at $4.25. This is SoCal, or should I just say CA where the state and the pleb mentality is higher taxes and more taxes...*sigh*

This can't be real.

You're obviously running on on much smaller circumference wheelbarrow wheels/tires to goose your shown mileage to trick us into thinking these cars can get anywhere over what the, ahem, "pros", at consumer reports get.   :worship:

For a long time, both fotomoto and ptjones held numbers in the 890s. Jus short of the 900 so this was a true  :airquote: Glass Ceiling to break, so close and yet so far...

What surprised me was that there was no intention at the time for anything other than a mid 800 tank - but at 700 mark, my Estimated Miles to Empty showed 220...I thought..hang on, whats happening here?!? Now...I did tweaked my drive hom from work to take a different route this tank, that was the difference...

I think that to break this Glass Ceiling with STILL HAVING gas in the tank meant more to me than anything else - it proved my calculations were right on and there is no desperate drive to max out the gas to break the glass at the end of the day. Finish the MPG  :shift:  marathon with a cruise & :) to the finish line.

My thought is that either great drivers will break the 900 sometime soon but, imo, this is like Everest, its always good to be the 1st one to summit it and lead others to more summits - it's what possible...think that and Jus Do It :victory:

The next :airquote: K2 peak is the 1,000 which I think is doable in a stock car, with just the grill cover/gas pod mods but nothing hardcore. I think I can get 70 to 75 MPGs for a sustained period but right now, I lack the time, drive & social life commitments to do this.

My Maxine is an amazing car, she's DA BOMB

Never been there...PM me and let me know. Now, if its Thanksgiving, I am more than likely to be boarding@Mammoth, fyi.

Nice!

btw, when I first read the title, I thought you were posting about your pano roof glass breaking. lol

LOL, I thought about that too...but I figured most posters here already know I don't have a pano  ;)

...I haven't paid *that* much for gas ever, ...

$3.679/gal is about my average for 87 octane at BJ's Wholesale, until winter gas cut in a couple weeks ago.

I'd say you live closer to the refinery, but El Segundo was once "the second" largest oil producer in the US, so Jus has us both beat.

HAve fun,

Frank

PS about time you broke 900 - 66 traffic lights!!
