13jmperry@gmail.com
Going to pick up my new C-Max tomorrow and filled out all paperwork today. Dealership is family run and small with great sales staff and service department. Smooth, painless transaction! HOWEVER... here is the $50,000 question... whether it is "wise" to get the extended warranty? I usually pass on EW unless the car has a dubious repair history. In my old Pontiac Montana, warranty paid for itself in 2 visits. In other cars, never used the darn thing and was out $$. With the complexity and possible expense of both parts and labor in the C-Max... how many of you bought the Ford extended warranty and how many passed??? We were quoted about $3,095 for a 7 year/125,000 mile Premium Care 1000+ warranty with $100 deductible at 0% interest that would add another $46/month to our payments. May not sound like much, but we are on a very tight budget and the payment now is at our comfortable limit. Of course this warranty overlaps the 3/36,000 and other standard warranties (powertrain, hybrid, etc.) that come with the car. We would also receive free oil changes for as long as we own the car (every 5 mos. or 5,000 miles). Usually... I would pass. But concerned with this car as looking at the engine bay... my goodness, we could not even SEE the air filter! Everything there is a mysterious mangle of hoses and wires! It appears the average small mechanic shop would refer us to the dealer for even basic work. That means big $$$ down the road.... Tried to negotiate a cheaper price, but the price was obviously written in stone. Looked online and another dealership touting cheap warranty prices came out even higher for the same warranty. So... need some quick opinions!!! Shake the few last coins from the monthly piggy bank or roll the dice on future repairs?????????

Save you money and rely on the standard warranties to cover things that break early and self-insure for the future unknowns. This is what Consumer Reports recommends and what most buyers do. stevedebi
raadsel and stevedebi...Thank You for clarifying the eCVT transmission should be covered as part of the standard Hybrid / Electric Unique Component Warranty Coverage (which lasts for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first).I have been reading the thread over on the Energi forum. The second dealer said that they would diagnose the transmission without a tear down, but no one has out and out said that the entire transmission falls under the 8/100 warranty. I'm not sure how they come up with that, because I don't think the transmission is dealer serviceable; I think it has to be replaced. So just a point to note. Some dealers are sticking with concept of parts of the transmission being covered by the 5 year / 60K powertrain warranty. It sounds fishy to me, and I've not heard of anyone actually having to pay for transmission repairs - or heard of any real problems with the transmission, except for one TSB that Ford has issued. ptjones
Transmission is covered under the Hybrid Parts Warranty 8yr/100Kmi and no deductible. Dealers are not authorized to work on Hybrid Transmission. For now it looks like they replace them with new ones. :) Paul
hybridbear
Be sure to shop around for the ESP too. Check out Anderson-Koch Ford & Flood Ford. Both of those dealers sell the Ford ESP online for much less than most dealers. Most dealers double or triple the cost when they sell it to you. Don't get ripped off. obob
rfaunce
I purchased a Ford ESP 100,000 mile 6 yr Premium Care warranty for my 2013 C-MAX in January 2014 with 14,000 miles on it for $985 from an on-line Ford dealer. The local dealer quoted me close to $2,000 for the same warranty. SHOP AROUND! obob
Tom
I bought Ford's ESP with my then new 2013 C-Max because the car seem so complicated to me that I was afraid not to have the "security blanket". My coverage included all standard services ie. oil changes, filters, tire rotation, etc. at no additional out of pocket cost to me. Seemed like a good deal. However, after 3 years my dealer informed me that I would have to start paying for my routine services.because the ESP would not. That is not the way I read policy. Any experience with this issue? Swamp45755
Ford HQ quoted me 3200 dollars for 6 years 60000 miles zero interest for 18 months. An online dealership a little over 1500 and my dealership in Lake Wales Florida 1280 all with a 100 dollar deductible. I am going with mine that's about 425 dollars a year for 4,5 and six. That's reasonable ptjones and obob
