C-max fourth on Top 10 Commute car list

C-Max is 4th, ahead of Lexus, Subaru, Prius.  Fusion didn't make this top-10 list.

In rank order, based on owner satisfaction survey questions specifically on commute use:

1. Tesla S

2. Chevy Volt

3. Nissan Leaf

4. Ford C-max

5. Lexus ES

6. Mazda3

7. Subaru Legacy

8. Toyota Prius

9. Honda Accord

Very cool. I dont agree the CMax is nicer to drive than my 2012 Passet SEL Premium, but I could be a little biased :)

Love my Passat and its huge back seats and trunk. but wish they had a hybrid version, if they did Id get that in an instant.

Averaging about 26 mpg currently which is on par with its 21/31 rating for city/hwy

I do agree the CMax is in another class all by itself.

I dont think the Prius should even be on that list its a tin can noisy box compared to the CMax

Im sure your not liking the whole scam VW was involved in with the diesel mileage and smog issue. So glad i didnt need/want the diesel.

I read an article this week they were given a deadline of this November to come up with a fix./solution. Its going to probably take years to services all those that will have to be recalled and fixed in the dealerships for free. I might not even be possible without a major change to the engine. Doubt its only software fixable.

I do notice they have only had commercials on their non diesel models of Passat as of late. No mention of the diesels at all since the scandal broke,

Probably were banned from advertising until the fix is done

I don't believe VW can sell any new cars with their 4 cylinder diesel engines until the engines, with whatever fix they create for the emissions, have been approved by the EPA.

Actually, not at all worried. They are giving us 1K up front, and the 2014 engine already has the hardware in place to use DEF, so that fix is likely to be easy. It is the Jetta, which doesn't have the hardware, that is the hard part. I don't think CARB is going to let them release any fixes until they come up with a fix for all models.

 

The letter they sent indicates that the fix for our Passat will only affect top speed, not mileage or performance.

 

As to advertising, there is no point in advertising a product that is not for sale!

I can agree with this.  C-Max's sweet spot is commuting.  Can't say enough about my 2013.

Depends on the commute. For a long distance high speed commute, the Diesel is the way to go. MPG in the mid 40's vs mid 30's at 80 MPH. For a stop and go commute, the C-Max is better.

 

I read that the VW dealers sent their unsold diesels back to VW shortly after the scandal hit. I don't think they are even on the lots at this point. But I'm not in the market and haven't looked or asked.

From what I know, they aren't on dealer lots. The last I went by, it seemed that the VW lot by the Port of Houston had a lot of cars parked, I'm thinking many of those are the diesels that were shipped before the scandal broke and that were never shipped to dealers. This is what the VW lot looks like on Google Maps. At the bottom, it claims the satellite image is from this year -- that does (at least to me) seem like a lot of cars on the lot for January that are waiting to be shipped to dealers.

Diesels are so common in Germany because of the Autobahn (long trips at high speeds). they perform the best for those who drive 65+ most of the time for long periods of time/long trips

 

For the middle of the road mixed driving, Hybrids are best for both hwy and city driving, which is most folks out there.

 

for mostly city driving a full electric / plug in hybrid is best for that kind of driving

 

I know a lot of folks drive over 40 miles one way to work and a diesel is a must so yes its going to affect a lot of folks for sure
