markd
Ford sent me a letter stating that for $149 dollars they will send me a New a7 card. Is it necessary, can I find one on the cheap? Edited February 25, 2016 by markd
ptjones
I see them on eBay starting at about $100. :) Paul
markd
$119 on ebay and $129 on Amazon from the same vender. Edited February 25, 2016 by markd ptjones
Kelleytoons
Yeah, and if you wait for a few months they will come down even further (I have seen both A5 and A6 on eBay a few months after release for around $50, which is where I bought mine). The "need" for it really depends on the places you drive (in terms of what changes in the roads would be worthwhile having). I still have A5 and it's as accurate as anything I need (then again, I live in the Orlando area and there aren't a lot of new roads added very often -- perhaps in an area where roads are added more it would be more significant). markd and ptjones
ptjones
I think I will wait too, I have to get one for my wife's Explorer too. ;) Paul Edited February 25, 2016 by ptjones markd
markd
Nothing ever changes here in Indianapolis, so I am staying put. ptjones
raadsel
I guess I'm going to be tempted, though I will wait for the price to drop on eBay. I drive a road occasionally that isn't on the A6 chip, so it would be nice if it included that road. OTOH, since I have an A6, my plan had been to wait for the A8 to be released. One other option that might interest some here, as well, is you can get the B7 (I assume it is released, or will be soon) instead of the A7. The difference is that instead of Canada, you get the maps for Mexico and Central America; both have the same maps for the United States. Kelleytoons
You might want to check to see if that road *is* included on any chip you want to buy (perhaps get on a local Ford forum or even go to the dealership and take a test drive on some car with a current chip and check that road out). My experience with GPS maps over the years is that it takes a LONG time for any particular new road to show up (we had a road in Nevada that was about a mile from our house that took about five years to finally get on there even though four years previous I put in a request to the mapping place telling them about the road -- don't remember what it was but it was a Garmin and there was some sort of place you could alert as to roads that weren't in the system). Would be a bummer to pay for a new chip only to find that road still isn't there. ptjones and obob
WNY
MIne is A4 and we were driving thru the farmers fields on a trip according to the GSP, looks like all new roads. Probably updating it soon, since we do a lot of traveling, otherwise its been good. I hate using the little Garmen we have in the other vehicle, so used to mySync larger screen and split screens. Redshift
Such a ridiculous price for something that is super cheap to produce. I bought a Garmin GPS and a temp mount (a sandbag) so I use it only when needed. Cost? $150 with FREE LIFETIME map updates. AZgman
Exactly where does the SD card reside? I can find no mention of it in the manual. The Ford site for navigation tells me I have the latest revision, but it does not mention A7 anywhere. Confused...

I believe the Ford site uses the Ford part number for the SD cards. It says "A7" on the front of the SD card itself, though I believe the longer number (GM5T-19H449-AA) is the Ford part number; you can see a picture of the SD card on this eBay listing. ptjones
Kelleytoons
Going for around $70 now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/A7-2016-MAP-UPDATE-Navigation-SD-CARD-SYNC-FITS-ALL-FORD-LINCOLN-UPDATES-A6-/282258241765?hash=item41b7e6f8e5:g:kW4AAOSwA3dYLK~C&vxp=mtr So always worth it to wait a bit (I'm still in no pressing need of it, although might pick it up in a couple of months). ptjones and obob

If this is true, you have Sync 3 and I believe the navigation is different and does not use an SD card AZgman

My car does connect to my WiFi while it is in the garage and will auto-update itself. I know that "Sync3" was updated last week this way.
