Rear shock absorber replacement

Hi, I'm approaching 78K miles and I notice the rear end has gotten louder going over big bumps.  I wonder if the shocks are due for replacement.  The bounce test does not seem to indicate anything is wrong and there is no fluid leakage around the rear shocks.  Has anyone replaced theirs?  Please share you experience.... It looks like each shock requires turning 3 bolts to replace.  I'm still on original tires and there is no abnormal wear.

I;m getting rattling in the rear area, either shocks or sway bar bushing that happens over bumps too. Currently at 65K miles. roads around here are terrible. Definately sounds like something in the suspension. 

if we ever get spring around here, i'll have to get under and look/see if I can find the problem.

I would definitely follow-up with what SnowStorm said. It seems to be a common problem on the C-Max for the issue to be within the latch. Mine does it as well.  But when I checked in the suspension/rear area, it definitely seemed to be coming from within the hatch itself.

i'll check that too, i know they replaced all the latches on the recall a while back, I think the hatch was one too, but don't recall if it was just door latches or all of them. 

 

there is a rattle up front too, so I;m thinking shocks/struts. sounds similar.

Disconnect one end link of the sway bar in the rear. no more rattle. drove it around and to work and back and no rattle.

Ordered new end links. $23. 

Front pass. side is making same sound, so ordered one for the front too. slightly more expensive. 

 

We have Terrible roads around here with all the crazy weather, snow, freeze, 50-60 deg. snow, rain, 20-30's temps, have made driving an adventure missing some of the potholes, the highway is really bad in some spots.

What did that do to the handling?

Older cars never had rear sway bars, a little more body roll and spins the front tires a little more around corners. LOL. but really not much different. 

 

Got parts from Ford Dealer, will be installing shortly. shouldn't take much to replace them, as long as the nuts come loose...one is already.

I had to replace C-max sway-bar links at around 35000 miles.  Dealer replaced the front under warranty; I replaced the rear after warranty expired.  In both cases this fixed rattles going over bumps at low speeds.

As I remember the C-max shares the parts with Maxda3; perhaps because both are based on the Ford C1 platform.
