JohnnyO_71
What am I doing wrong? I went to change the rear brake pads. Got as far as starting on the read driver side when I found I couldn't complete the job because I couldn't get the caliper retracted. Was pushing in while rotating it, but it wouldn't go in, so I couldn't fit the housing back on with the new pads in. Is there a trick? grege
Have done few other car's brakes, but not a cmax yet. If I remember correctly, for rotational pistons, clockwise retracts it. Could parking brake be interfering? Wish I could be better help, but haven't done a cmax yet, so not sure of the setup. Hopefully, someone will chime in with deets. plus 3 golfer
Never done a Ford but they all should be similar. Is the piston rotating? or it won't rotate. Clockwise to push piston in. The piston can get "stuck" with gunk/rust and not rotate in easily. Work it back and forth. Are you using a tool to turn it? I've been able to turn a piston in with needle nose pliers when the brake tool I had didn't match up to the piston. I've also had to use channel lock pliers and grab the piston (while applying light force on piston with clamp) to rotate it as the piston was "stuck" and could not rotate it with tool. Just be careful not to grab the rubber boot on piston. Edited July 8, 2019 by Plus 3 Golfer
markd
Take the cap off of the master cylinder and gently use a screwdriver to release the pad from the rotor. You want to put a rag under the master cylinder.

How did you get the piston on caliper to retract??
