Thomas Jostlein
Has anyone else had this issue? Bought a 2017 C-Max energi brand new. Had one issue with the high voltage wire failing in 2019 because it was not built correctly, namely not in the protective housing. Warranty covered the repair. Last week, the "pull over safely" light went on, and the engine stopped. Dealer charged me almost $1200 to take apart the covers for the battery (at $160/hour), and it ended up being "the affected wire had rubbed through under the car. Wire needs to be repaired and all ....reinstalled." Apparently, the loom holding the wire was rubbed through where it bends upwards by the rear seat, causing moisture to get in, triggering the fail. Called Ford Inc., and they so far refuse to pay, given that there is no recall and not under warranty anymore. Seems like either a design flaw and/or sloppy repair from two years ago? Thanks for your help!
fbov
Ask the dealer to explain how a 4 year old car is not covered by the 8-year, 100K miles hybrid warranty. Or have they only warranted the repair for 90 days? Edited January 19, 2021 by fbov Thomas Jostlein
plus 3 golfer
I looked at SM and rear seat and many panels and covers (inside and underneath) need removed to get to HVB cable where it goes through floor pan. Also, if they had to physically remove the cable from the vehicle to repair, it would add to the labor hours. I would argue with dealer that $160 an hour is extremely high. You don't need your senior tech removing nuts, bolts and a cable. I have not heard of anyone who had the same issue. You are probably correct in the root cause is likely a sloppy repair 2 years prior. It's hard to tell from the SM image but there doesn't appears to be anything (loom or otherwise) holding cables in place as it bends and goes through opening underneath car. Perhaps the cable was pulled to tight and thus rubbed. Look at pic below as there is no loom shown going through opening. I do know that some posters have had wiring issues with the HVB and Ford does not cover wiring past the 3/36, B2B warranty. Also, IIRC Ford does warrant replacement parts plus installation which were paid for by the owner for 2 years. So, since the previous repair was covered under the original warranty, there would be no 2 year extension to the original warranty. Thomas Jostlein
So the verdict after multiple calls to Ford customer service, including asking twice for supervisors (ha! Didn't seem to possess any authority, of course): no help from Ford. Predictable. Any suggestions on how to escalate my demand from this great Forum? Write a letter? I've even heard posting on Instagram with a #Ford #C-max might get their attention. It is surprising that they are willing to lose a customer for life over this.
