Generalbeluga
The manual talks about jump starting the 12v battery by hooking up jumper cables to the two terminals located under the hood on the drivers side of the engine compartment. It then talks about charging the battery by hooking up the charger to the battery located at the rear of the car in the cargo area. This is a very inconvenient location to find and access so I am wondering why you couldn't use the jump start terminals under the hood to charge the battery? Opinions anyone, please? PWBarrett
Speaking for myself, I would use that technique, as long as it was with no more than a medium-current charger (like 10 Amps or less).Any more and I'd want to do it with the battery disconnected and out of the vehicle, although that does look like a nuisance.I can't imagine they'd have put any circuitry between that post and the battery other than just a heavy cable. JohnTrigger
I've been using this a few times hooked up to the positive and negative posts underneath the hood to keep the 12V battery "topped off". So far, it hasn't "smoked" anything! So far, no dead battery either: http://batterytender.com/battery-tender-plus-12v-at-1-25a.html PS: you can find it cheaper on other websites
valkraider
I have battery tenders on a truck, two motorcycles, and a boat. They work fantastic. I kept a teeny motorcycle battery (notorious for going bad quickly) healthy for 9 years using one!
FoutsNC
They do work great. I used one for quite some time on a garaged Cobra and never had an issue with it. If we were to be leaving a vehicle in the garage for a while, I would be breaking it back out again. http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0128-Plus-Charger/dp/B00068XCQU $48.63 from Amazon shipped free with Prime Membership. ptjones
I left the accessory switch on and drained the 12v battery. Stuck 12v charger on it for 10min and the started the engine with charger connected Then quickly removed charger. No more problems, that was 2 months ago. Generalbeluga
The question was not can I charge a C Max battery but, can I use the jump start lugs under the hood to safely do it?

From what I understand of your question, I've been doing exactly what you are asking. I haven't noticed any issues using the battery tender described above. Generalbeluga
Thanks John and yes, you did address my question. I was trying to encourage some others to throw in their two cents as well so I could see the consensus of opinion. Thanks again for your input and response! Bob999
Yes you can charge the 12v battery from the terminals in the engine compartment. I have done it. Those terminals are directly connected to the 12v battery and connecting a charger there is electrically equivilent to connecting the charger directly to the battery terminals.
