  1. As others have posted it is speed dependent, with mileage dropping as speed increases. For my driving, typically 68/69 mph my mileage, based on computation using actual gallons put in car, was right at 40. While I really liked the CMAX I was disappointied with the mileage and replaced it with a VW Sportwagen TDI. It returns 49 mpg on the highway at 68/69 mph and gets better mileage locally (I live in eastern PA in "deep suburbia"). To top it off it carries more cargo.
  2. But the question is who gets the rebate--the original owner or you?
  3. First Ford describes a CMAX feature in the Owners manual that it does not have. In my view this is a safety feature. When asked Ford then says it doesn't have the feature but they don't correct the owners manual and they don't generally notify owners of the incorrect information about a safety feature. Second, the feature exists in at least one other Ford model--the 2014 Ford Taurus--so it is not a question of being difficult to implement or anything other than that Ford said the CMAX has be feature but failed to provide it.
  4. The A/C is activated when you use defrost so that might contribute to your experience.
  5. In response to a question I posed to Ford I was told that they expect that all "goodwill payments will be mailed by mid-October, 2013." A question for those who have received the payments--how much did you get?
  6. Ford does not recommend a "regular 5K maintenance". The Ford recommended maintenance interval is 10K or 1 year, which ever comes first. However many dealers still aren't following Ford's recommendations--I suspect that at least one reason is they want the revenue from more frequent service.
  7. My experience is that modern cars with fuel injection, oxygen sensors and computer controls cars get better mileage at higher altitudes--there is less air resistance because the air is thinner and the modern control systems still allow the engine to operate efficiently.
  8. I think the criticism contained in the article is fair. The fact that Ford chose to use Fusion testing data for the CMAX, while allowed under EPA rules, was clearly misleading and, in my opinion, Ford should have known that the 47 mpg figure was not a reasonable number for the CMAX. That said I like my CMAX and I don't consider my comments, or the Forbes article, to be bashing Ford.
  9. My car was updated to 3.5.1 by the dealer. The website says that 3.6.2 is available and that I need to make an appointment for the update. I had previously installed 3.6. Note that the service procedure (Application Performance Upgrade 13A01-Supplement #2) includes reprogramming the PCM to "latest level software" in addition to reprogramming the APIM. I think that the APIM can be reprogrammed with a flash drive but that the PCM must be reprogrammed by the dealer.
  10. I don't think it applies to the CMAX. First, the document you link to does not list the CMAX as an affected vehicle. Second, the upgrade designation is different--it is listed as 12A04. I think the document that applies to the CMAX is this one: http://allstatetrucks.com/images/Recalls/R13A01%2012%20AND%2013%20FOCUS%20ELECTRIC%2013%20CMAX%20HYBRID%20AND%20CMAX%20ENERGI%20AND%2013%20FUSION%20HYBRID%20S2.pdf Note that the document says the affected vehicles are NOT upgradable with a flash drive.
  11. I was referring to "support.ford.com". Once I signed in I got the following message: You have a dealer-installed update availableThis update requires a visit to your authorized local dealership After clicking on "What is this update?" I found: DA5T-14D544-BD Gen2 - V3.6.2
  12. According to the information on the download the initial update (that could be installed by the user) was called 3.6. Microsoft Windows Automotive ; USB Installation Directive File ; 3.6 (13171) Update from: ; 10308,10337,11038,11063,11081,11134 ; 12023,12047,12058,12156,12285 ; Other versions not supported ; autoinstall.lst (NA) Now an update labeled 3.6.2 is available and according to the Ford website this update must be installed by the dealer.
  13. Maybe, maybe not. Just depends on how it is programmed. When I reset it I only changed the hour--not the minutes and maybe the programming recognizes that as a DST adjustment.
  14. The DST selection is gone. On my hybrid I selected to reset using GPS and then manually added one hour. I worked for me.
  15. According to the owners manual semi-synthetic oil is not required (Page 353 of 3d printing of Owners Manual): Use of synthetic or synthetic blend motor oil is not mandatory. Engine oil need only meet therequirements of Ford specification WSS-M2C945-A, SAE 5W-20, GF5, and display the API CertificationMark. If buying other than Motorcraft oil you need to read the label carefully to see if the oil meets the Ford Spec. For example, Quaker State posts the following about their advanced durability motor oils: FEATURESQUAKER STATE® ADVANCED DURABILITY CONVENTIONAL MOTOR OILSTM meet or exceed:• North American warranty requirements for worldwide car manufacturers, including European, Japanese and U.S.• Energy Conserving ILSAC GF-5 Performance Standards (SAE 5W-20, 5W-30 & SAE 10W-30)• API SN and prior API Service Categories• Approved to GM 6094M specification (SAE 5W-20, 5W-30 and SAE 10W-30)• Meets Chrysler MS 6395S specification (SAE 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30)• Meets Ford WSS M2C945-A specification (SAE 5W-20), and WSS M2C946-A (5W-30)
