MyTouch didn't want to shut off...

Recommended Posts

Oh the idiosyncracies of this MyTouch Sync. So today, I changed a name on my android contact, tried to do a call to test it out and the voice command stop working. I got to my destination and then discover that after shutting off the engine and opened the door - normally this would shut down the MyTouch - the radio just kept on playing and the screen was stuck in the map. I have never seen this issue before and my mind was saying "micro$oft crap".

So I decided to lock the car and go shopping.

Came back and thankfully, the MyTouch was off. I started the car and noticed the clock was reset to 12 noon.

Sssssh.

I did call the sales guy and he said that if it didn't switch off, the whole car was needed to be brought it to have the tech boys reset it. Surely, surely, there must be an easier way?

Its fine now. I also cold booted my droid, just to be on the safe side. And I took a few more drives locally tonight and everything is back to normal now. No freaking idea why it did that and it's been super fine till now (except for the driving on the houses in the GPS issue) and this glitch.

Still looking for someone if they know how to "unstuck" it next time - just in case I am too far away from the dealer.

Mine did that the other day...  I was driving to the store and hit the power off button for the radio and it kept playing.  I tried seeveral times and no matter what I did I could not shut off the radio.  When I got to the store I shut down the car and it "thanked" me for driving a Hybrid so I know I powered the car down, however the radio continued to play.  I got out of the car and shut the door and the radio still played!  I unlocked the car and got back in... shut the door and the opened it again and got out and the radio finally shut down.

Had a similar problem while delivering Xmas presents to my family. Wanted to experiment with navigation, while trying to enter sisters address with voice, system locked up and screen went white. Pulled over to shut off engine and exit car, radio did not shut down even when I opened the door. Called dealer for suggestions, they said bring it right in. I was 30 miles from dealer and only 5 miles from my sisters so I took presents there. Didn't stay because I didn't want battery to discharge in her driveway.

Dealer said they had to do a master reset, which is basically disconnect battery and reconnect.

I've seen this twice too.  Who knows...

i stopped using m$ sync, the software on this $1k package is the worst. almost as bad as my old bmw setup. i am exclusively using my android phone or tablet for maps, directions, even music and streaming radio. i have bought a window mount for my 7" tab and thats fine, but i will say to ford that this is a terrible system they chose to sell. now i see a bunch of you are getting more issues. anyone except their dealer hear anything from ford?  funny, at CES last week i met a bunch of those sync guys showing the cool latest 'apps' for the ford, and i laughed as my nav is slow, and usually behind where i am... i know about being an early tech adopter, but this is silly.

MFT is crap, typical Microsoft.

Hopefully it will get better but for now we are plagued with these problems...

I keep a reboot stick in my console:

very sad that we buy a $1k system for the car, get all the hype from ford and the dealer, and you need to keep the blue screen of death reboot stick.  i would like to also hear from new fusion and other ford s[t]ync systems. i bet this isnt just a cmax issue. any good lawyers in this group? ford should get a nice lawsuit to fix this or buy our flawed vehicles back. i hope no one experiences the system or battery, going down while you are driving. since the car is mostly electric assist in many ways, it is imperative that the system works up to specs. i know my sync doesnt, after 2 months, it is now a conversation piece  since my android is also on my dash.....  you early adopters dont need to deal with this nonsense, apart from the cmax mpg debacle. we have a lemon law in calif, dont think it will apply to cmax, but i will enjoin any class action over the poor design and retailing of the cmax issues that are present.  a $30k car shouldnt be this problematic.

When I was test driving the CMax, I notice the Micro$oft logo so I said to the sales guy...."dude, you know its going to get BSOD". Interestingly, when he pulled out the same car for the next test drive, it did a software reset when the car was turned on. So...the BSOD was replaced with some sort of system reinitialization or whatever. I am going to send my Max for an update at Ford, he said this should solve the issues with the GPS/map and hopefully this weirdness.

I had the *black screen of death* on Saturday. I was shopping, came out and started up the car and the screen was black, stayed that way for about 5 minutes, then rebooted and the clock was set to 12:00....even tho it was about 5pm. During the blackout, no radio, climate, nuttin'! Kinda freaky.....I'm so used to seeing all that. This was after the SYNC tech had me do a soft reset on my Droid to try to correct the voice-dialing problem. Don't know if the 2 are related or not.

regardless of who is designing the sync firmware, the issues are real, and all of you who forked over $1k to be beta testers, is wrong. to hope firmware updates will resolve all these issues is not realistic. no one should have to wait until version 3 of the firmware come out in a year. the real issue is ford not doing diligence to make sure the out of the box experience is as advertised. how would any of you like to buy a computer or laptop, and it works maybe part of the time. you would send that machine back in a ny second... ford has a responsibility to all users [fusion, escape, focus, etc] or ford should  be held accountable for the issues and are cropping up and seem to be present thru out the spectrum of usability... same goes for any of you who have experienced the cmax electrical bricking...

the service managers are not computer techs, nor are they software specialists. they are mechanics, and defer any of these issues back to the home base in dearborn.

The frustration is that there is no excuse for a GPS not to work correctly.  The first time I used navigaion, after a few miles, it locked up, shut down, and then rebooted.  I have reinitiated the SD card several times.  As I driive the GPS will seem to work OK, but then suddenly shows me several hundred feet left or right from my posiiton and sometimes going in a different direction.  I have inserted my TomTom on the dash when I really need to rely on GPS.  I'm hoping the next upgrade will fix the problem.

It looks silly having an external GPS but as long as the internal is not reliable, I have no choice.

Who needs to be an apple fanboy to recognize the well documented crap which is MFT - and says "powered by Microsoft". Microsoft auto has always been crap.

Even if they do get stability up - the interface is ridiculously poorly designed.

I love my XBOX but its incredibly hard to do some things which are simple on every platform. Sony and Nintendo make it easy to take my money, Microsoft makes me jump through hoops.

I have been working in IT since 1991. I know Microsoft products well. Currently I am involved with an incredibly painful project upgrading enterprise Microsoft products - and one of our most painful points is the Microsoft consultants themselves.

Microsoft has been terrible for almost every point of my career. Although Windows 7 is the best Windows they have ever made.

I wish Windows 8 and windows phone 8 didn't suck so bad because the market needs someone other than Apple and Google to be a significant player just for competition sake.

I did not make up the problems with MFT. It says powered by Microsoft. If they don't want to be blamed they should take their name off the product.

Ford already gets blame, as can be seen by reliability and satisfaction ratings the past 2 years since MFT debuted.

It's not just you, it just irks me when so many people see the word Microsoft and assume it's crap.

I think that's a matter of opinion, I happen to like the quadrant idea and the instrument panel displays. There are a lot of stability problems documented (I personally have not encountered them, so I know not everyone has a problem, but a lot do).

As a software engineer I know all too well how complicated software is, so I admit that I do have a greater tolerance for software problems, compared to the average joe.

When you look at Windows, it's a miracle it works at all. A near infinite combination of hardware platforms, additional software installed, and the interaction of billions of users means that there will be problems.

Interface: I am not complaining about the design, I am complaining about its efficiency and usability.

For example, why does the currently playing track info not show up in the Entertainment quadrant while in the home screen? Make the Sirius logos smaller Anderson justified then put the track info there. Ironically the current track info shows up in the bottom left entertainment button when I am in the phone or NAV or climate screens - but is nowhere to be found while in the home screen...

Why does the entire climate quadrant just show the temp setting? Why not show the fan speed and direction settings...

When I am in the NAV screen the phone name in the top left phone button is all messed up, the text and the signal strength indicator are overlaid on top of each other.

In the audio settings under the "occupancy mode" there are three buttons "Driver", "All Seats", and "Rear". Only the first two work, the "Rear" button is non-functional (not visually disabled though - it just doesn't respond to being pressed).

A lot of wordings don't clearly describe what is being set. All around there could be more clear labeling or context sensitive help available.

Under wireless Internet settings when trying to connect to my home access point the password entry keyboard randomly works or doesn't work.

There are other quirks I could find if I wanted to go on and on....

My XBox has similar strange oddities.

It's frustrating because the products are otherwise good products...

Apple fanboy?

/rolf have you tried Apples Map application in IOS-6? Typical Apple Crap, used it a couple of times when I needed directions, first time put my destination in the middle of the Potomac River, the second time put my destination location on Alcatraz Island - they fired the guy that lead that project. Needless to say I downloaded Google Maps as soon apple realized how bad the app was and authorized it again on Itunes, head the beta test team was lost someplace in Zanzibar when they where trying to get to the McDonald's down the street and I think this poor lady was using it

Apple maps has worked just fine for me. I do get annoyed by the two finger rotate 3D tendency...

I prefer Google Maps app as well.

Bing maps is actually one of my favorite things Microsoft does (Bing is also my default search engine). I wish they made an app.

Google has a good 6 year mapping head start on Apple and the advantage of a desktop version where they get practice too. I bet Apple releases a desktop version of maps. My biggest complaint is I have submitted corrections for some local place names at least 30 times but they never get updated.

I didn't say Apple could do no wrong. I said MyFordTouch is typical Microsoft crap.

I am not alone. I didn't invent that idea. Ford reliability is taking a beating because of it. Long long before I ever bought my Ford....
