Shacky
I thought my shock or suspension was broken as there is a loud banging noise left rear when hitting bumps. Mechanic looked at everything under car and said suspension isn’t problem. Maybe the main battery strap broke and it’s the heavy battery banging. he could not figure out how to access the batteries. does this sound right and is it a known problem? fbov
Welcome, @Shacky Please tell us more, like your car's year and model, mileage, history, etc. I assume you've checked under the cargo floor to make sure nothing's loose. Sway bar links break but I've never heard of an HVB coming loose. My first inclination is to try another garage; get a second opinion. Given how easy it is to access the 12v battery, if they couldn't find it, they're not the brightest bulb in pack. Again welcome! Shacky
2013 Hybrid Energi with 120,000 miles. What is HVB? mechanic guessed the larger drive battery coming loose not the 12v. I like your suggestion of checking sway bar. Will bring it elsewhere.
fbov
HVB - high voltage battery, the "big" one, even bigger in your Energi. Highly unlikely to come loose. The 12v is in under the rear cargo floor. I had a sway bar link fail, so I know they do!
djc
I replaced my rear sway bar links at around 37,000 miles. It rattled going over small bumps at speeds under 30mph. The front links had been replaced by dealer at 35,000 miles (so under warranty). The links have little ball joints and live a hard life. They are made in China. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B009B5T6VO/ Moog makes one that claims to be superior to OEM. In the spirit of science, I bought and installed one of each. Both OK 20k miles later. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K6KXEKM/ From online: What are the symptoms of a bad sway bar link? Some of the most common symptoms of a bad sway bar bushing or sway bar links going bad are: Clunking noise. Rattling noise. Knocking uneven noise road. Lack of stability when driving. Noise going over speed bumps.
