  1. Well, after 10 years and 40,000 miles we decided to trade our 2013 Energi in on a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. It's been a good car except for the drop in battery capacity a few years ago (down to 13-15 ev miles) and all the recalls. We are leasing and in 3 years hope to get back to a plug-in of some sort. Looking at the paper work I was reminded and surprised that it had cost over $40,000 back in 2013. Not much different from the value assigned to our Toyota in the lease. Anyway, have enjoyed and benefited from the C-Max forums (RIP Energi forum) and thanks to all who have helped me make my Ford C-Max Energi ownership expedience more enjoyable and productive. Pat
  2. Had mine fixed today. Took an hour. This is the 6th recall for my Energi since I bought it in Feb 2013. May be soon replacing it with another plug-in hybrid, likely a Toyota.
  3. Got mine Wednesday and today couldn't find it. Thanks for providing a copy of the recall and notice so I could print it out. Will wait for the next notice, taking care not to lose it, and look forward to have this repair. Some months ago I went into a UPS having locked the car and when I came out it had rolled down the slight slope of the parking spot and was blocking traffic. For 1,000s of times I have always put it in park. I assume it was this time but can't remember.
  4. And I suppose this will be gone too: 02/03/2022 06:05:16 PM Hello Patrick, Max is fully charged. Enjoy your ride!
  5. I just learned of this 3G issue when a message appeared on my cell phone. No mail from Ford received. It appears that my 2013 C-Max Energi is an orphan regarding this upgrade, based on the info in this thread. That's unfortunate, as I've really enjoyed the remote starting and locking over the years, especially when it's 100F+ outside. It's about time for a new car anyway, as my EV mileage is down to 15-16 on a good day. Have enjoyed the C-Max. Good in-town car. Not sure I would pay $350-$500 + all the hassle anyway. Getting a bit old and cranky.
  6. Got an email from Ford today announcing a new update in the map software for the usual price of $149 with free shipping (how generous)! Does anyone in the known universe buy these ripoffs?
  7. Yesterday the new battery charge level was at 54% according to my charger so I set it at 2amps and charged it for 18 hours. Every hour it went up 1% until I quit checking a bedtime and this morning it was at 100% and 12.6v, based on a voltmeter in the 12v socket, aka cigarette lighter receptacle for you youngsters. So we have trips today and will see how the battery responds and hopefully I will not have to remove and return it. Thanks for the help. I also now have FORScan loaded on a laptop if it is needed. BTW, I see in the owners manual there's a procedure I haven't seen mentioned to be done after replacing the 12v battery. It's on page 293 for my 2013: 1. With the vehicle at a complete stop, set the parking brake. 2. Shift the transmission to P (Park). 3. Turn off all accessories. 4. Step on the brake pedal and start the vehicle. 5. Step on the accelerator to start the engine. 6. Run the engine until the engine reaches normal operating temperature. While the engine is warming up, complete the following: • Reset the clock. See Clock in the Audio System chapter. • Reset the radio station presets. See Number block in the Audio System chapter. • Reset the power windows bounce-back feature. See Resetting the Bounce-Back Feature in the Power Windows section. 7. Allow the engine to idle for at least one minute. 8. If the engine turns off, step on the accelerator to start the engine. 9. While the engine is running, step on the brake pedal and shift the transmission to N (Neutral). 10. Allow the engine to run for at least one minute by pressing on the accelerator pedal. 11. Drive the vehicle at least 10 miles (16 kilometers) to completely relearn the idle and fuel trim strategy. Note: If you do not allow the engine to relearn the idle and fuel trim strategy, the idle quality of your vehicle may be adversely affected until the engine computer eventually relearns the idle trim and fuel trim strategy.
  8. Thanks for that video and insight. I decided to do it and found it not as difficult as I thought it would be but still a pain in the butt. As I posted elsewhere, I suspect the new battery had a very low charge as it took a lot of time to charge in the car. While it's unlikely I will ever put another one in, I would do it again as it was an annoying task but not that difficult with instructions like yours.
  9. Thanks for those insights. I was waiting until the first charge was done to reset the battery age parameter, so I assume the existing parameter for the 5 year old battery may have impacted the charging of the new one. Although it's unlikely we'll still have Max in four years when this battery fails, I think doing a quick charge before a new battery is installed might be a good idea. The C-Max was making all sorts of clicking noises from a box under the hood while this charge was going on.
  10. Bought a new battery at AutoZone today, a Duracell R67. Installed it and starting charging at 2amp and it was showing a very low, maybe 20% charge and 5v. After an hour it's up to 50%, but stuck there. Autozone said it should have been charged and recommended a trickle charge, 2amp, for as long as it takes. They will exchange it if it's defective but what a hassle to take it back out. Anyway, what's been others experiences with charging a new battery. A few lights are flashing and it texted me it had a low battery but is this normal to tart out so low. Seems like a good idea to make sure the battery is fully charged before installing. No telling how long its been sitting in Autozone. UPDATE: 4 hours later the 12v batt is at 100%. I suspect the battery had a low charge due to sitting on the shelf for a year or two.
  11. My 2nd battery in my 2013 Energi has just crashed. I had the first one put in at the dealer. Is this a job that is easy, medium or hard to do? You have posted great instructions and I'm tempted to DIY as it's a hassle going to the dealer these days due to Covid.
  12. I bought my Energi in Feb 2013 and it now has about 30,000 miles on it, all in Arizona. EV driving has dropped to about 16-17 miles from the original 22-25, and sometimes is lower with A/C use. A big disappointment but such is the life of an early-adopter. Unless it was $200 I can't see a economic justification for replacing the HV battery.
  13. I read mine with difficulty today and entered them into the website along with the fact that the two childlocks were not white. The two back doors got flagged as needing service, probably because of the childlocks. I will take it in maybe in a couple of years when the virus is gone.
  14. Since the hot weather has arrived my EV range has dropped to 10-14. Very disappointing. I checked the warranty and it specifically excludes drop in capacity as that's "normal" for Li-Ion batteries. So I anticipate soon it will be mainly running as a Hybrid and there will be no need to charge the battery for a few miles of EV. I have 7 years on it and only 25,000 miles. Very disappointed but the burden of being an early-adopter of the technology that was not well implemented by Ford (cooling, etc.). Wish the Energi forum was back to share the misery.
