  1. Rarely with all the cars I have had, have I ever matched the EPA Estimates. I have either been above or below those estimates, though the majority of the time below estimates, especially living in a rural area with dealing with farm trucks & machinery 9 months out of the year.

Also doesn't help that around here, you either have to drive the speed limit or faster, otherwise you get ran off the road. The main highway near us has a speed limit of 70 for cars, 60 for trucks, unfortunately a lot of cars are doing 75-80, while the trucks are doing 65-70.

The EPA Ratings/estimates are just that: estimates.

  2. Due to a double error, both on my part & the SA's, the installing of 13B07 & the 30,000 mile maintenance will not happen till tomorrow. I had it put in as today as that's what I heard him say initially, without double verifying it.

While there at the dealership, I asked the SA about the Oil Change light & driving over a 1,000 miles with it lit, & he said not to worry about it as apparently there have been others in the past that have driven 10,000+ miles with it lit with no issues.

  3. I don't think I ever saw you answer. Curious to see how long it let you go since you do a lot of hwy driving.

It should be a longer interval but........ a hybrid when driven "correctly" in urban cycles should get a longer interval since the ICE is used less than on the highway where it is the primary motivator. But urban driving has more start/stop cycles and the ICE doesn't always get up to the proper temp. Lots of variables. Glad we have the monitor.

Last time we got the message we had about 5,000 since last change. This is only the 2nd time it's come on as we are doing the 5,000 change schedule.

This time around, it was at about the 3,000 mark when it came on, however was doing some driving on unpaved country roads with cars kicking up a lot of dust, so thinking there's some clogging of the filters.

  4. Ok. So apparently she wore blue because of the car but had no idea it was the exact same color...

I got to drive it for a few hours on the highway this morning for the first leg of our trip. I managed pretty good I think.

Those numbers are real good, just remember what you were doing to continue getting those numbers.

  5. This is why I'm apprehensive about the upgrade. None of those 3 scenarios are favorable. Perhaps Ford is letting it exceed the limit with the update but the computer will limit how long we can drive at 62+ MPH in EV mode to protect the MG1, at least I sure hope so!!

On the C-Max Energi window sticker, it states you can use EV for a maximum distance of 21-22 miles.

We'll see what happens tomorrow after Neytiri comes out of the shop.

  6. Here's another option for those who don't want to use a magnet.  I found a rubber pen holder at Office Max.  It will hold the typical stylus that's the size of a pen.  The back of it is sticky so it can stick to the dash.  It's called a Pen - Pal.  It comes in a variety of colors.  It was up front near the registers in one of those bins with a bunch of stuff in it.  We bought it for my husband's new car.  In the picture below it is not attached to my table so it looks a little unstable but if it were attached it would attach right below where Pen - Pal is embossed.

You can get the PenPals in a three pack from Walmart for $2.88 (over in Office/School Supplies) & a stylus for about $9.88 (over in Home Entertainment/Electronics), so if you don't have either it'll cost about $13 before sales tax (if applicable

Here's what we did for a stylus mount:

  7. I bought my Energi from Robberson Ford in Bend Oregon, but they traded a pickup to get me the car from Legacy up in Pasco.

Legacy Ford was an early adopter to EVs/Hybrids, as they're now a Certified EV Dealership. On the lot right now, they have 2 Focus Electrics, 1-2 Fusion Energis, & 3 C-Max Energis. The owner does a lot of Barrett-Jackson as he's brought in some of those cars for display. Actually, in some ways, Legacy Ford is a better dealership than Russ Dean Ford (which was the previous ownership/name).

We used to have 2 Ford dealerships in Tri-Cities (Pasco, Kennewick, Richland), but the other dealership couldn't compete as Lithia pulled it's Ford dealership out & turned it into a Honda dealership. The next closest Ford dealerships are in Moses Lake, Prosser, & Hermiston now.

  8. You don't have to have your oil changed by Ford.

Get it changed anywhere and keep the recept.

How many miles do you have on THIS oil?

In the future schedule your oil change before you reach this mileage.

Being the C-Max is a brand new vehicle & having had issues in the past with the likes of Jiffy Lube, we will only have the servicing done through a Ford dealer.

The scheduled service is not until 32,500, & currently sitting at 30,800, however some driving has been done on backcountry dirt roads so filters are likely clogged.

We normally do the servicing every 5,000 miles (or every 4-5months on average).

  9. Welcome to the forum YakMax  :victory:

Most of posters here in the know don't really care of the CR and their testing and if you read it enough, their testing and conclusions are bordering on either bias or willful ignorance, as much as they tout that they have :airquote: skin in the game with their car purchase. Sure. Anyway, I digress...enhoy the forum and feel free to contribute with postings or pictures.

Concerning reviews, I say don't trust them period.

  10. Sorry, my username is not very original but yes I am from Yakima. I really did not have much hope of finding a C-Max at a local dealer so that is why my purchase was in Seattle! BTW, thanks for the welcome!

For servicing, Legacy Ford in Pasco does a great job. You schedule in advance all services with them which can be beneficial.

The Service Advisor we go through is Jere Gorsline, as he seems to be the most knowledgable about the C-Max & is very personable. In fact you can mention TSBs & Recalls to him, & if he hasn't heard about it, he'll look into it.

  11. After spending months reading reviews about the 2013 Ford C-Max and going to the November Seattle car show, I was convinced that the C-max was a great little car for my wife to do in town commuting and an occasional road trip. Then March of this year rolled around and the Consumer Reports article surfaced which called into question Ford`s claim for fuel mileage. My confidence was shaken and having never owned a Ford product, I decided to further read everything I could find on this car. That is when I found this forum which changed my mind.

After numerous painful trips to several dealerships, we finally bought my wife her first new car and she couldn`t be happier! We have put 1100 miles on the car and our life time average is 39.5 which seems to be inching up week by week. For what we needed, we opted to buy the SE model, light tan interior in Platinum white which we found at a Seattle dealer.

I want to thank the many posters who have taken the time to further my knowledge of this car and the possibilities that it holds. I have spent countless hours on this site soaking up all the experiences and information that has been posted. Thank you to administrators who have added so much to this forum. :worship:

Looking at your user name, you're not from Yakima are you?

    BTW Welcome to the club

  12. I misread and made a comment, that I removed.

I have an 08 Escape Hybrid, and have gone as much as 1000 or so miles(more probably) after that has shown up. Although it was a couple years old and had a few thousand miles on it.

I'm concerned about the mileage cause of the fact that for us to go to town and back is a minimum of 100 miles (minus any errands). We have the service scheduled for next Tuesday, but between now & then we have 3 trips to town & back (with each trip being about 115 miles round trip).

  13.

Features I enjoy EVERYday in the SEL (They are worth it to me)

    • kick to open hatch
    • push button start / no key door open
    • proximity beeping
    • Backup camera

    Less frequently:

    • Navigation
    • Auto Park

The one feature we rarely use is the Active Park Assist (as there's rarely the need to parallel park around here).

Using navigation can actually help with Fuel Efficiency, so we use it almost everywhere we go.
