  2. I don't think the shutters are closed at 70mph for very long unless the ICE doesn't get up to temp. Which means there used for temp control primarily. Would be nice to be able monitor the sutters. I have a small computer camera that I think I can tape on to grill and plug in to laptop. I need to find USB extension cord.

Miles per Gal. comparison with cover and without
  4. I read that too but the facts don't seam to support it. At 70mph the ICE will get up to opperating temp and any gains after that have too be aero and I saw 4.5mpg at many different temps.
  5. I just need to know so I don't put holes in them. My email is paul@star-instruments.com.
  6. Guys, you are only solving half the problem, Heat lose, the other is aerodynamics and you're not doing much for that. The Heavy Duty Packing Tape was a much cheaper and better aero solution if you want test out the idea. If you really want to solve the problem just order a Grill Cover Set and be done with it. And it will releive some of your MPG depression. I will start shipping Sets out the first of next week.
  7. Yes it does and I'm including holes and screws for license plate. I will put a picture of complete set on my gallery shortly. There is a picture of license plate on cover in my gallery.
  8. The license plate holder takes most of the center area of grill cover. There wouldn't be any machanical strength left working around holder. I just checked the license plate holder in my car and it uses three plastic rivets that can be easily drilled out and then remove holder. Grill cover is 8.25" wide and license plate is 6" wide. 1/4"x20 tapped holes could be made in plasic cover and then license plate could be installed with 1/4"x20 plastic screws. Might be able to only use two bottom screws and plastic nut on backside. It would be nice if you had the new plastic flat license plate. I'm impressed you gained 57mpg. LOL
  9. Did you get my PM? If not I will post my #here.
  10. On my graph for uncovered grill 27degree temp change = -5mpg. For covered grill 27degree change =-7mpg they should be pretty close.
  11. You can expect about about 3mpg better mileage with grill covers. I should have some ready to ship tomorrow.
  12. I have over 5kmi without any problems, covers are on the outside of grill so has no effect on dampers. Grill covers still allow some air to get to radiator. I have only heard the fans on twice in a month and a half. Look at my post on 3mpg gain with grill cover theads.
  13. I think they can be mounted on the cover, maybe inside but outside for sure. I picked up the Polycarbonate Plastic (Lexan) yesterday and should have finished sets ready to ship tomorrow. I will see if I can get a picture of complete set posted.
  14. I just completed a 43.6mi trip temps from 39-45deg.F,very hilly, 55mph, slight tail wind and 300ft drop in elevation and I got 53.6mpg, 28mi EV (64%) 3.9mi regen, .8gal and brake s. 99%. BTW that was with grill covers on and WT temps 195-205deg. At 70deg. I should be getting 60mpg. Pretty good don't you think!

  17. I just completed 43.6mi trip with temps 39-45deg.F very hilly, 55mph, slight tall wind averaged 53.6mpg used .8gal, 28mi EV,3.9mi regen and brake s 99%. BTW I did have grill covers on with WT 195-205deg.F. At 70deg it would have been 60mpg. Pretty Cool don't you think!

  19. At 70mph it's 3mpg aero, 1mpg heat. So at 55mph it's 2mpg aero and 2mpg heat. And 40mph it's 1mpg aero and 3mpg heat. Below 62mph you are running in EV mode and ICE isn't creating heat all the time so covers reduce heat lose. Which saves MPG's.
  20. They don't require it in GA. I have a solution, mount license plate on the inside of my cover. What do you think? Worse case it could be mounted on outside.
  21. Did you read 3mpg gain with grill cover threads?
  22. Do you have to have a front lisense plate? I can see 1mpg lose there. I think it defenatelywill help WT but I'm not sure it helps aerodynamics much. Lumpy surfaces create drag, smooth surfaces reduce drag like on aircraft.
  23. You could turn it around and let them by and draft on them and save some mpg's. It's a challenge to take a situation and turn it into your favor. Tailgaters are annoying. Being a hybrid driver puts a different perpective on things.
  24. The Hwy test I did was with the ICE cold. The heating pad was 5x4 inches with about 2/3s of the pad touching the bottom of oil pan. The other 1/3 retricted air flow around pan. The Wolverine Model 9 pad is 3" in diameter much smaller area and woudn't restrict air flow as much.
  25. I had a 2008 EH which I traded in on 2010 EH Limited, I was getting over 40mpg City and 31-35mpg Hwy. The mileage when down during the winter so I made a cover for it which helped 2mpg. My dauther's prius has gone down also. I just made 3900mi trip across the country and back. I averaged 40.6mpg with a head wind component most of the way. The average temp was 40deg.F so if you add that back in to 40.6mpg at 2mpg for every 10deg.F drop from 70deg.F you get 6mpg + 40.6mpg =46.6mpg. Short trips 6mi or less drastically reduce MPG's along with rain and snow. Also you need to drive the CMAX differently than EH and Prius it took me awhile to figure that out. You should check your odometer with a GPS mine is off by 1.5% or about .5mpg to the plus side. You might want to convert my 2mpg for every 10deg.F drop from 70deg.F formula to km/lts and convert F to Cdeg. Good Luck Paul
