  1. @Noah Harbinger: In another discussion, someone mentioned this device ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?gclid=CNSPsZ_LnrsCFWLNOgodOEYASA&Item=N82E16882715001&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Home+Gadgets-_-N82E16882715001&ef_id=UnLYYQAAAMcP5QhY:20131207170041:s ) in the context of the AC outlet in the cabin. However, at 15A it ought to be enough to handle the load of the 120V charger. As it claims to report cumulative KWH, it might be a way for you to report the expense of charing an Energi fairly.
  2. I've had the same behavior, both with and without a USB drive plugged in (and an FM station tuned.) I've even used the voice command system to "play" things and it wouldn't come on until I played touch-me games with the touch screen. Welcome to My Ford Touch. But it could be worse. Everything I've read here indicates that the current version of My Ford Touch is a great improvement over the previous versions. (I didn't have My Ford Touch until I bough an Energi in late September.)
  3. My recommendation for the interior is a parking hang-tag friendly rear view mirror assembly. (Yes, it seems trite.) It'd also be nice if there was an open place for loose (parking) change. The lift-up arm rest is a nuisance for that.
  4. Here's a solution for an electric scooter in the Netherlands - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n17B_uFF4cA I was hoping there'd be a mod (perhaps using OpenXC technology) to have an MP3 of my choosing play. For lack of any other ideas, the sound of horse/sleigh bells comes to mind from a previous post here. "Pock et Ta Pock et Ta"… just does't sound fun. Alternately, the sound of a big semi-tractor engine is appealing too.
  5. The car seems to run the ICE on cold (< 20F) mornings even when I don't use the defroster - and not having clear windshields is dangerous with my in-city commute going past a public school, downtown, and various parts of a University campus. (I like that Ann Arbor is a pedestrian friendly town - but University students are completely heedless of physics and visibility and driving with a fog impaired windshield is too risky.)
  6. Does anyone know about how the gasoline volume/flow is measured by the C-Max? Does it need temperature compensation? (I'm sure that the temperature fluctuations in any car are a lot greater than in the pump - the fuel coming from underground tanks is going to govern the temperature of the fuel gauges in pumps at the stations, whereas the temperature of the gasoline in the automobile fuel tank is going to be ambient temperature - -5F to 105F is what I experience in Ann Arbor. If the fuel gauge reports different values for the same volume of gas, then there might be an issue there. (I.e.: imagine the conduit through which the gas flows increasing or decreasing in size as temperature increases or decreases.) But I Am Not A Mechanical Engineer - certainly not a fuel-systems engineer.
  7. Still have a half-tank of gas from when I bought mine - but I'm using the engine now more than in October and early November. With luck, I'll make it to January before I need to fill the tank. I'm really not used to not filling up ever week and a half (my old VW Passat V6.) But I like it.
  8. Any suggestions for improving efficiencies for short haul commuters? When the weather was only chilly (35-45F), I could still do my daily commute in an Energi EV both ways with the defroster on - just barely. (My EV range with the defroster on drops from 21 miles to 11 miles, and my commute is about 9 miles round-trip.) I did try driving with the windows down a little for air-circulation so I wouldn't need the defroster, but that doesn't work when the weather gets cold - my eyes water up. However, it's been getting cold lately (15-20F) - and the ICE comes on a lot but mostly when I first move the car in the morning. I've been watching my average gas mileage drop and drop. It's down to 165MPG now. My commute involves driving down a longish (for SEL* Michigan) hill to cross a river, and then back up again to work - and then back at the end of the day. *SEL = South Eastern Lower Michigan. A state made of two major peninsulas has potentially) 8 quadrants, although I think the UP is satisfied with East and West.
  9. Ok, My Ford Touch/SYNC Master Reset (with all USB/SD card devices removed and iPhone powered down.) Reload SD Navigation card. Re-Paired phone. Made sure car was in EV-later mode (to force the engine to run, as it'd been charging for a few hours.) Drove around in the frozen dark on crappy Michigan AA City/Township (township is worse) roads. Did I say in the dark? Just for a Vehicle Health Report? (I've done dumber things, but not often.) Got home. Started the vehicle health report. Made sure to keep my foot on the gas to keep the engine running. (In idle. In my car-port. At the top of a little hill.) Ta-da! It worked (except the "Scheduled Maintenance" part under "Dealership and Maintenance" was "unavailable". Even though the coupons were there.) Thank you Ford, for building a system that continues to deliver coupons in the frozen dark. I'm not a car guy. Really, I'm not. I want it to "just work". And as far as I can tell, the mechanicals do (except for a slight reluctance for the rear riverside door to close.) All the mechanicals seem to work fine. But My Ford Touch is STILL not ready for production. It's a great Proof-of-Concept. It's a great college senior project. It's fine for internal use where you've got engineers who really love their cars and know how it all works together and can tolerate (personally) some wonky behavior. But it doesn't "just work" for a guy like me. And given the dependency modern vehicles have on their internal computers and networks, it scares the shit out of me about the quality of the rest of the computer systems controlling the engine, brakes, charging-system, etc. And the whole prompt about "please remove all USB, SD, and Bluetooth devices" from the Master Reset makes me think that's the way to root it - not that I've done anything more advanced than install various Linuxes, *BSDs, and OpenSolaris on Wintel machines (and replaced the firmware in a D-Link router with OpenWRT.) I'm not ready to "brick" my radio and cabin AC+heat (I couldn't care less about the Navigation system or Sirius.) But now I'm curious about getting my hands on a My Ford Touch CPU & touch screen second-hand. (Except for being too cheap and time-starved to actually do it.)
  10. After driving around a bit for the sheer joy of it, I realized that having exhausted by EV-only range I'd been running on the engine for a while, which might be why I couldn't get a report just sitting in my carport the other night with the car "on". It took a few tries, but I was able to transmit a vehicle health report. For a few brief moments, there was a bit of joy in my 15 degree F carport. But when I viewed the report, every category (except for Dealer maintenance) was marked "System Unavailable" (in red). Cell-Phone pairing doesn't seem a problem… or maybe it is. Who can tell? It's MFT! Maybe I'll first try a "My Ford Touch" System Reset instead of fuse games in my 15F carport in the dark. P.S.: Running the cabin heater nearly halves my EV-only range - which still leaves me with enough (barely) to get to and from work. Unfortunately, there's no place convenient to plugin at work. Call that a "First World Problem".

    Vehicle Health Report Hell

Wonkiness with Vehicle Health Report on a 2013 C-Max Energi (My Ford Touch)
  12. Thank you everyone for your response. I was (perhaps) too succinct in my report. I did do this with my phone in the cabin of the Energi with me. It was paired with MFT at the time. I am registered with SUPPORT.FORD.COM . THAT site tells me that MFT was updated to Gen2-v3.6.2 (DA5T-14D544-BD) on August 28, 2013 - 3 weeks before I bought the car in mid-late September. However, as a software/network/database IT professional, I consider that only a suggestion of reality, not the real truth. I think it's time to try the re-pairing of my phone with MFT, followed by resetting of the phone number of my phone number on SUPPORT.FORD.COM followed by power-cycling MFT by playing fuse games - followed by giving up and taking the damn thing for warranty work.
  13. After my new(ish) 2013 C-Max Energi reported to me "Engine Oil Maintenance" tonight, I thought I'd run a Vehicle Health Report. I've been sitting in this car for 45 minutes with the the car in "run" and it STILL tells me: Error Your vehicle must be running for at least a minute before running a vehicle health report. As an IT professional, I've got a rather snarky attitude about things Microsoft (MS Windows Automotive, which Ford MyTouch is built on) and this ISN'T helping my attitude. (For that matter, neither is the erratic behavior of the radio or the 10 character limit when configured as a WiFi client device.) The MS chip on my shoulder aside, any ideas? When I go into [Help] -> [system Information] reports CCPU S/W Version: 4.30.16171_PRODUCT and "Navigation Application Version" 3.48.9
