  1. Wooo people: Please turn on the tachometer display and report the engine RPM at which you hear the noise. Someone posted these directions I think they are correct. "Go to the Displays page on the left-hand mfd. Scroll up or down to get to MyView. Go right to customize. Again, up or down until the tach shows up."
  2. So you're saying never kick in the electrics? You might as well have bought a Focus for $6k less and not have the weight of the batteries. I had an 09 Focus, my personal best was 46 MPG on a 400 mile trip to northern Wisconsin.
  3. The Mazda engine is also, like Ford's an Atkinson cycle design which spoils the compression ratio advantage.
  4. I'll put that on the list of things to try. Along with pulling the fuse that runs the noise canceller.
  5. Yes, it does sound like that. It's easy to stop by just changing the throttle a bit but sometimes doing that is a problem in traffic. The tablet was on my wife's lap about a foot from the right door speaker. From the left seat it sounds like the noise is coming from the right foot well and that would make the door speaker suspect. Other experiments I have done: Tapping the headliner above the drivers seat did not affect the noise Tapping the headliner near the interior light console does stop the noise briefly Opening the door does stop the noise but not sure because my wife freaked out when I did that. Activating the voice command system has no effect on the noise.
  6. I have a good recording of the noise! This is coming off a traffic light on Jan 22. Outside temp was 31F, the heater is off. Two people in the car. Recorded on a Nook tablet. In the file, noise at 0:15, and again at 1:05 briefly. RPM to get the noise going (I finally found the tachometer) is about 2400. The file name is C-MaxWooo.mp3 Spectral display shows a 15 db peak at 159 Hz. That would be twice the engine firing rate at 2385 RPM which is consistant with the tach reading. Hope This Helps. C-MaxWooo.mp3
  7. My ANC does not like passengers in the front seat for the most part. It's my daily driver and only when family of lunch buddies get in the car, the low db noise happens. Quite painful to everyone's ears and very embarrassing. Some of my passengers even put their fingers into their ears and say, "...make it stop.". At first, it does sound like the engine at low rpm, but you can easily prove, that it is the ANC. When it happens, just reach up and start tapping one of the over head microphones. The front passenger microphone works the best. If you hold the throttle steady when the drone is heard, start tapping the mic, and the noise goes away. Quit tapping, it immediately comes back. The front driver's mic has to be tapped slightly harder, and the rear mic even harder. The focus appears to be on the front passenger area. As tapping is awkward, especially when looking forward while driving and feeling the ceiling for the mic, I choose to increase/decrease the throttle. The only times by myself, that I can hear the db noise start, but never reach the full drone stage, is in music on Sirius XM radio. It will sound as if you set a sub woofer to low in the db, then it begins to distort the song. I listen to 80s, Message, and Boneyard. It's the base guitar/keyboard, that brings it out. Where exactly, are the three microphones located?
  8. That URL is broken unfortunately.
  9. Cars make a very low (like 1-5 hz) vibration when you open a window because you have effectively turned the whole passenger compartment into a giant whistle. Usually goes away if you open a second window which spoils the resonance of the passenger compartment.
  10. An improperly wired microphone in a noise cancelling system could cause the sound system to go into oscillation and would explain why the noise seems to be coming for the foot well on the passenger side I think ther's a speaker there. Can we blame Microsoft?? Please??? I didn't even know it HAD a noise cancelling system. I think it's a good bet that it's the problem. Wish there was a way to disable this "Feature", that would tell me for sure when it starts doing it again. I had a call from the regional manager, they're working on it. Film at 11:00.
  11. Thanks for that. I have the whole TSB now, will wave it in the dealers face next time I'm over there.
  12. Well, I took it in on the 30th Dec. and just as Edsel Murphy predicted it would not make the noise that day. Ford Tech put about 10 miles on the car and they never heard it. I did get my complaining documented and they said to bring it right in if it started again.
  13. Cold weather is here again and the C-Max is making the noise often. Might be able to take a service tech for a ride soon.
  14. I've talked to the Service Department rep twice about this and both times he blew it off. "Hybrids make a lot of noises". The car still does the noise but have only seen it get loud a few times this summer. It is specific to a certain RPM and load on the engine but as your foot does not directly control the throttle it is hard to induce the moan manually. It was more prevalent last winter (Chicago area), will see how it does in the months to come.
  15. This just reported by BBC. Keyless entry vehicles easily stolen. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-29786320
  16. I bought a Samsung Convoy 3 from Verizon and I can report it works fairly well with Sync, paired up no problem. Phone calls work as advertized. Music player volume is very low and ID3 tags do not show. Could not get text messaging to work. Vehicle Maintenance report worked.
  17. Could somebody tell me what Internet data connectiviey adds to MFT or Sync? If I get a flip phone without a data plan, what will I be missing?
  18. You can get a half yard of clear vinyl sheet plastic from Hobby Lobby for a couple bucks and cut your own. Thats what I did with my B/N Nook. Just make sure the screen and plastic are perfectly clean before you apply it. There will be some bubbles but they go away by themselves in a week.
  19. My 2013 does this all the time. I thought it was just an annoying "feature".
  20. Have not taken the car in yet, it has not been making the noise lately. Did talk to service department though, they said they had not heard of that problem and had no bulletins on it.
  21. Who made that decision? WPA2 passphrases can be up to 63 characters.
  22. Wifi doesn't work anyway. Sync will not work with a WPA2 access point, it will not allow me to enter the whole passphrase. Am I the only customer who ever tried this? I gather Sync over a cell phone uses SMS. Can you tell me how many SMS messages are transferred for a vehicle health report? I get charged for each individual message.
  23. My cell phone does not have blue tooth. Can I get a vehicle health report by letting the car connect to my home WiFi AP?
  24. My 2013 has done that since I bought it in Nov. It is a loud moaning sound and appears to be a resonance somewhere. Something loose. It is definately related to engine RPM and load, will go away if I ease up on the throttle. Seems to only occur when the car is warmed up. My wife thinks the car is going to explode. I'll be taking it in to have that looked at soon.
