Blue Ox Baseplate Safety Cables??????
garymkrieg replied to ElectraGlideDave's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
To answer your question yes it has been that way for as long as I have used tow bars, ie 2004. The cables are always installed when the tow bar base plate is installed, in fact I'm not sure you can find a commercial installer who leave them off. Base plates have been know to come loose and disconnect, these cables at least allow you to not lose the car. Gary -
Recreational Towing (behind a motor home)

I attached the breakaway switch to the electric pin connector that is attached to your base plate. I used two strong, very tight, plastic cable ties. I tested it it did not move when I pulled the pin. Gary -
It must be the difference in model year. When I press the stop button after putting in neutral I get the "transmission is not in park" message but I also get the "Thanks for driving a hybrid" message like I do whenever I turn the car off. As I said earlier we towed from Las Vegas to Seattle, a total of 13 hours towing over three days with never disconnecting the car from the motorhome. I'm glad the Toad Charge is working for you, LSL is a good company, we use some the their other products. Gary

I'm confused. When you hit the start button, put the car in neutral and hit the stop button again the car does not turn off? You don't get the "thank you for driving a hybrid" message? The original instructions from Ford had people keep the car in accessory mode. The new instructions from Ford says to turn the car off. I understand what the charge line does what I don't understand is whether you are towing with the car off. Gary

We tow a 2015 Fusion Energi, as we fulltime RV. My question is how do you set the car up for tow. Is the ignition off or in accessory? Our manual stays to turn the car off, which we do. The longest we have towed without disconnecting or charging the car was three consecutive days, Las Vegas to Seattle, our battery was just fine after three days. My assumption is that with the car off the draw on the battery is the same as if it were parked. So why after 4 hours of towing is it dead, would it be dead after sitting 4 hours in a parking lot?

We use a Blue Ox Patriot, it works great.

Recreational Towing (behind a motor home)
garymkrieg replied to jmckinley's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
The attach point at the car should never be higher than the attach point at the motorhome. Any height difference of 4" or less is acceptable, ie motorhome attach point is higher. Gary -

The directions for an Energi are different: Vehicles with Push Button Start Start the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal, and then pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button until the vehicle starts. Press the brake pedal and shift the transmission into position N. Turn the vehicle off by pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button once. (Trip Summary appears in the left instrument cluster screen when the vehicle is off Note: You can remove the key fob from the vehicle while towing. Gary -
According to the FordPartner.com web site you can use the X-Plan to purchase a car by ordering one or by buying one off the dealer's lot. Is it common for dealers to refuse to give X-Plan pricing for ordered cars. I ran into a dealer here in Las Vegas that will only sell a car that is on the lot for X-Plan price.
