  1. Charles, those are great numbers for Interstate driving!
  2. Wow! great news to hear that they think they have a smoking gun. Also, amazing to see them communicate directly with you. Thanks for keeping the info flowing.
  3. Triple, That is interesting info. if you hold the unlock button down on the key fob, all four windows will roll down. This is helpful when walking towards the car on a warm afternoon, especially since the sunroof doesn't open. Is it possible that the key fob accidentally triggered the window roll-down?
  4. I use empower and temp as well. The empower is great! It makes it so much easier to "surf" the minor elevation changes without the ICE coming on.
  5. I think this is key, and somehow it is getting overlooked. There is a sensor that checks for physical resistance in the movement of the tailgate. The tailgate is likely sticking slightly in its "socket", either from sticking to the gasket, or internal air vacuum of the car, or its just too tight of a fit. This happened to me a few times when the car was brand new, but hasn't happened in the past two weeks, and my theory is that because we live at the end of a long gravel driveway, there is a fine dust on everything, all the time, and once the weatherstripping got dusty, it released the tailgate much easier. Tailgate opens well now, without going to the dealer. Ford could fix this issue by adjusting the latch mechanism so it doesn't pull the door in so tight, or putting in a longer delay between when the latch releases the door, and when the lift cylinders and the obstruction sensor become active. Your mileage may vary!
  6. In the past, a restrictive air filter or air intake, could have resulted in the engine running "too rich" which had a negative impact on fuel economy. However, since modern fuel injection, and computer controlled engines have been developed, this is no longer the case. Here is a very general overview of how modern engines deal with air flow: -The computer measures the amount of air entering the engine, and the temperature of that air, and then predicts the precise amount of fuel needed to react with the oxygen in the air to make the most fuel efficient burn. -Then as the exhausted gases are passing out of the engine they are measured again (sometimes twice) to determine if the fuel is all being burnt, or not -Then the computer makes fine "trim" adjustments to the amount of fuel being injected until it is satisfied that all the fuel is being burnt, (also, the least amount of NOx and SOx are being produced) As you put on a more restrictive, or less restrictive air filter or intake, nothing happens to your fuel economy, the computer accounts for the amount of air entering the engine regardless of any restrictions. HOWEVER, you can drastically reduce the amount of POWER the engine will produce by restricting the air intake, This happens because the computer cuts back the amount of fuel injected as the air is cut back. If you have a 200hp v8, but only allow enough oxygen into the engine to produce 100hp, then the computer will only inject enough fuel to make 100hp. This is all assuming the engine computer is working properly, and there are no "check engine" lights, and the engine has warmed up already.
  7. Drivers side controls the rear climate.
  8. Where are you driving jmckinley? we are only a couple weeks into our c-max up here, but have only received thumbs up from other drivers. If someone is driving aggressively around you, call the cops and give them the license plate number!! Tailgating is serious offense. You might end up saving a life someday.
  9. Here are the Answers: 1. Model - ENERGI 2. Lifetime Total Miles Driven - 914 3. Lifetime EV miles driven - 575 4. Lifetime Regen miles -87 5. Lifetime MPG - 65 6. Lifetime MPGe -53 7. Lifetime kwh - (not sure if I can make this display anywhere without installing a submeter in my garage, it doesn't show up on any screen) 8. Lifetime brake score - 94 9. Are your figures full lifetime [NO RESETS] or have you done a RESET (if so, explain when and what was reset) - NO RESETS My driving has been a mixture of battery only, around town errands and taxi service for our kids activities, and longer multi-hour trips.
  10. Where did you learn about the roof carrier limitations with the glass roof? I am surprised to see that because in my experience roofs that have sunroof and moonroofs installed are actually stronger than plan steel roofs. It's probably in the owners manual, I guess I had better read it one of these days.
  11. lowbar, My camera works perfectly, its the predictive lines that keep turning themselves off. Do you have the green, red, and yellow lines on your camera display?
  12. Thanks John, Seems like they fixed all the old bugs with 3.5, but added one new one in so us newer folks wouldn't feel too superior.
  13. Okay, maybe we should investigate this a little further. Our car was built Feb 9th and came with MFT 3.5. Everything works perfectly except the backup camera line settings change themselves to off frequently. When turned back on, they work perfect until they turn themselves off again.
  14. Mine are gone within a day every time I turn them on. Some weird sync bug. Fortunately that's the only bug we have come across so far.
  15. Jus-A-CMax, It totally depends on the electricity cost versus the gasoline price where you live. There is some extra electricity used in charging the battery. I have ordered a 240 volt sub-meter to keep track of it, because I enjoy things like that, but we can do some "back of napkin" type calculations and get pretty close. Assume I get 30 km out of 5 kWh, that's 6 km per kWh. We pay less than .10 per kWh here, but I round it up to 10 cents to cover off the transit tax, and carbon tax, plus delivery cost. so, 10 cents gets me 6 km in EV. That's 1.67 cents per km. Lets round that up to 2.5 cents per km to cover off the occasional cold morning, and the capital cost of the charging equipment. On gasoline/hybrid mode, we are getting about 5.2 liters/100km. We pay about 1.40 per liter, so thats $7.00 to drive 100km, or 7.3 cents per km. Round that up to 7.5 cents to cover the more frequent oil changes that will come with using the ICE. So, using broad, sweeping generalizations, and living in the Lower Mainland of BC, running off the battery is 3 times cheaper than running in hybrid gas/electric mode. Its not an attractive stat until you start looking over 10 years of driving. I figured on 10,000 km battery per year, and 10,000 hybrid mode, so 100,000 of each over 10 years. that's $2,500 of electrical power and 7,500 for the gasoline derived power. That's a total cost of $10,000 for the Energi, versus $15,000 if we had bought the regular hybrid.(and a staggering $36,400 if we continued to drive our 13L/100km minivan) So, you can see that with the Energi priced apporox. $5,000 more than the Hybrid, it is really about a break-even to go that way unless you get some sort of government rebate (We got $2,500 in BC)or drive more than 10,000 per year off the plug in, (that's unlikely for most, due to the size of the battery you would have to charge more than once per day). Or have cheaper electricity than us, and costlier gasoline. We figured all this out before we made our Energi decision, and decided that if it ended up a break-even after 10 years, we would still be happier driving the Energi for other, non financial reasons. Your mileage may vary!
  16. Laurel, I hear on Jack FM that the DJ's are going to be driving around in a C - Max this week or next week as a promotion for the Vancouver auto show, and I hear the Ford electric vehicles will be putting on a big display at the Vancouver car show. Remember Ford is a lot more that just the C - Max, and it can be a real dogfight between divisions over who gets the promotions. Imagine how you would feel if you were in charge of selling and marketing Escapes? It would be pretty frustrating to see The new kids on the block getting all the attention. I think that the popularity will grow, and the dealers will bring more I s as people ask for them. It's kind of a catch -22. I think the maple Ridge Ford dealer has sold about 10 regular C - Max, but I have the only energi from them so far. They sold their white display model a couple weeks ago, and brought in a nice red one to display in the meanwhile. Traditionally we live in a very poor market for Ford passenger cars. This is generally a decent market for domestic SUV's and Trucks, a strong market for import cars (Toyota, vw, etc). And I super strong market for minivans, both domestic and import.
  17. I'm with Laurel, ours works perfectly. After a few days of figuring out what she wanted to hear, the navigation lady and I are getting along fine now.
  18. From my experience with the Energi model, in hybrid mode, leaving the can "On" the engine will come on and off to keep the battery approximately half charged. Leaving it on doesn't charge the battery up all the way.
  19. There is definitely something odd going on with this issue. We have a C - Max built mid-February, and the nav accuracy is dead on, I can easily tell what side of the street I am driving on, for instance. The maps are perfect so far, and it even has the new bridges in our area. The directions so far have been perfect, for about a dozen locations in the lower mainland of BC. I feel horrible for anyone who ended up with the previous version and I understand your frustrations. Hang in there!
  20. Agreed. There is no need to have your foot on, or off the brake when shutting off the car. Either way will turn it off and put you into the "Waiting for you to open the Door" mode. It is easy to tell, because the car acts totally different when you open the door in accessory mode. Go try it.
  21. Very sorry about the accident. Interested in your experience with the roof rack. That ladder makes the C-Max look like a pretty flashy work van.
  22. This is a good idea. Posting to move it back to the top, and keep track of it.
  23. Laurel, re: economy, I have been getting the same sense of doom and gloom from a number of industries around the lower mainland here this winter. Hopefully once the sun comes out, people will start spending money again.
  24. Great numbers, thanks for the update. Good to hear the ICE uses much less fuel unce the battery is topped up.
